The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
The change could be a form of Adaptation Distillation or Pragmatic Adaptation.
The Flashback at the beginning would be Troubled Backstory Flashback + Cold Open, but if we could get together enough examples I could see that working as a page of its own.
Unsung: That particular example can't be said as "troubled" in any sense (it is to explain how The Promise comes about), but I catch your drift.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaYeah, I guess it doesn't have to be troubled :) I guess it's just come up in superhero movies/shows so often that my head just went there.
Unsung: Seems like you have a few examples in your head? In this case, I should start a TLP, so it seems. I only have this one.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra Nova
In the source material, the protagonist gives a flashback after establishing his character. In the adaptation, though, that flashback is put in the beginning, and then Time Skip to Present Day, where the story continues.
- Is there a trope for this change?
- In the adaptation, that "flashback" is started by saying it was in the past. Is that a trope, or is it too Chairs?
