You make a note of how the trope is used on the page. So say there are three potholes, two of which are misuse and one is correct. I personally would label that wick as neutral for the raw data and then when summarizing the data, I would explain that this wick could be counted as either misuse or as a neutral wick.

Another option would be to clean up the misused potholes and then use a different wick for the wick check.

It depends on how you do your wick check. I personally just copy and paste the context of the wick and then explain how it's used, so if it's in a pothole, I'll copy the use of the pothole and explain if it's misuse or not; if there are multiple, I might add it to a "misc" folder and explain how each pothole is used.

Or WaterBlaps idea of just cleaning it up and moving on could work, though if you're checking for misuse specifically, cleaning up the misuse you come across is a little counterintuitive.

how do I see
I open up the page editor or the source code and do a "find on page" search, checking for how many results I get. Once I find the example, I can copy the whole text over to a sandbox.
