Non-fatal Heel–Face Door-Slam?
Great suggestion, and glad to find that one (and all the other redemption-related tropes), but not quite what i am looking for. In Thelma and Louise's case, they aren't "villains" seeking to "redeem their evil ways" but anti-heroes who have had bad luck, and it is more "escape to a better life" they are looking for than "redemption." I worded it insufficiently before.... The other example I have observed is in the play Bestway Suites, in which a homeless guy, Jerry, has sobered up from heroin and saved enough money busking to buy a bus ticket to another town to start over... only to have his nest egg, and chance for a better life, stolen from him by some skate punks.
Any other ideas?
Is there a trope named for when a down-on-their-luck character has their "last chance" at redemption stolen from them? Like when Brad Pitt's hitchhiker character steals Thelma and Louise's get-away cash?
