We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaIt'd be Artistic License specifically for steel.
For other metals like bronze that could be more easily melted with historical methods, casting was the standard method. This is also why your typical soldier used bronze weapons for millennia after the steel bloomery was invented- you could easily cast and mill dozens of bronze weapons and pieces of armor in the time it took to forge one resource-hogging steel item, and they did the job just fine.

Do we have a specific name for this trope? When they take metal completely melt it down to a molten liquid and pour it into a caste. It happens ALL THE TIME even though it's not how you would make a steel sword. I've only seen it listed under tropes like Rule of Cool or Artistic License
