Personally, I go on page clean-ups when I notice either: A significant amount of Zero-Context Examples, improper indentation, trope misuse or other common errors. I clean these up regardless of course, but I don't really consider it a "clean up" unless the problem is major.

Might be too advanced for a new editor, but when a TRS thread has determined what action needs to be taken, it gets an orange star for "Pending Final Action". These threads have a decision and need editors to carry it out. The short-term and long-term project forums are also good sources of pages with problems, where editors might post a problem page, but aren't able to carry out the repair themselves.
There's also Frequent Redlinks, which is very newbie friendly. Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
