If there was no discussion to rewrite it, then its not ok.
He didn't remove anything, though, he just added some context (several paragraphs of it). It looks fine to me. The only problem is that moving the "oddly nostalgic" bit into the second paragraph makes the time period being referred to unclear, since that context doesn't come until after.

has rewrote the description of The Big Rotten Apple trope, was this okayed somewhere? There was nothing about it on the discussion page.
