Harpo Does Something Funny definitely applies here. In a lot of the later Robin Williams movies, parts of the script will intentionally be left blank with directions of "Robin says something funny" here, knowing the adlibs he could come up with would often be better than anything the writers could.
We have Throw It In! for unexpected VA ad-libs staying in the finished product. What if the director expects a VA to ad-lib?
In the particular instance I am thinking of, it can go under Method Acting as the character is goofy. But is there a more specific trope for this?
