I was going for a subset of Mercy Kill because it happens while their opponent is actively engaged in killing the character, but is it too close?
Doesn't seem distinct enough to be its own trope.
“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”Yeah, I can't think of a single example of that that I've ever seen in my entire life, and judging from the fact that you don't have one yourself, neither can you, Grey Bard.
I agree, maybe it isn't distinct enough, but actually, I've seen a bunch, usually in literature, thanks for that. For example, Col Buchanan's book Farlander.
Do we have this one?
A character is being killed in some inescapable and horribly painful way and an ally does a quick mercy kill in order to spare them. Most often occurs with burning at the stake. "You will never feel the flames!"
