Possibly, there is some overlap. I mean examples such as:
- Fawlty Towers: Basil is terrified to find out that a guest is a psychiatrist, and is convinced that his every move is being analysed. This psychiatrist keeps appearing throughout the episode, every time Basil is in an awkward situation. (Not really a Drop-In Character here.)
- Keeping Up Appearances: In many episodes, Hyacinth's poorer relatives Daisy and Onslow turn up unexpectedly, embarrassing her when she is trying to make a good impression. Also, the neighbour Emmet cannot stand Hyacinth; he'll go somewhere to get away from her, and there she is. (Played with as a Drop-In Character.)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: The inept and fame-hungry Professor Lockhart keeps arriving at awkward moments for Harry, for example just as Malfoy sneers "Oh look, Potter's giving out signed photos!"

Which trope is it when an unwelcome character keeps turning up all the time?
