The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Well, there are a lots of games, especially old school RPGs, where the game allows you to input names for your playable characters. The names of other characters changing based on what you input, though? I can't recall ever seeing that. Depending on how many playable characters and how many NPCs there are, seems to me like there would have to be a wide variety of pre-programmed names in order to do what you're talking about. I suppose if it were done, though, it could be Developer's Foresight.
Edited by JMQwilleranThanks. A friend also suggested One-Steve Limit but I'm not certain it applies 100%.
That would be the motivation behind the Developer's Foresight of giving alternate names
Do we have a trope for when a character can have different names in a game depending on the player input? Not in the sense of 'name your rival' but as in 'Oh, the player entered the same name as would have been default for this NPC, so let's give a different name to the NPC'?
