[up]x4 I suspect it's because both of those were pretty much the exclusive endgame trees for everything except dual blades and gunlance. They had to nerf them for the sake of diversity ignoring completely that there'll be a new single meta option for each weapon and it'll probably be the same elder dragon tree for each of them.

So my headcanon is that Rondine comes from the MH version of Portugal. Portugal is one of the first European nations to trade with Japan, and they notably brought guns and Christianity. Even after Tokugawa closed off the country, Japan still allowed Portugal to trade with them.

Okay, I have to gush a little. The Rise version of Teostra's theme is, in my opinion, the best version of his theme song. I especially love the part that kicks in after aound 50 seconds.

It's probably not going to happen, but it'd be awesome if this song plays whenever you fight a Teostra in Stories 2.

I'm switching from the Magnamalo build to the Teostra build for my DB. Its blast is stronger especially when combined with Teostra's Soul. It has higher crit chance as well, so the lower damage stat doesn't bother me that much. Teostra's armors also has great skills like Critical Eye, Critical Boost, and Teostra skill. I wish it had more white sharpness though.

Even after Tokugawa closed off the country, Japan still allowed Portugal to trade with them.

That's the Netherlands, actually. Portugese ships tended to bring along Jesuits, so they were kicked out along with all other foreigners. The Dutch were protestants, who were generally less inclined to missionary work for a variety of reasons, so they were allowed to stay.

Does Weakness Exploit stack with the vanilla crit score? My Nargacuga build currently has 80% crit and 50% WEX. Should I remove one wEX for something else?

Weakness Exploit adds its value to the affinity score you see on your stat screen whenever you hit a part of a monster that's weak enough to the type of damage you're doing- Tails for cutting weapons mostly, and heads for just about everything.

If you have 3 weakness exploit, you probably only need 50 affinity to hit 100% crit chance on most parts of a monster you'll want to actively target.

What is considered a "weak point", anyway? It used to be on a part with 45 higher damage. Is that still the same?

I think it's still 45; though in practice I find it doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. The weak points tend to be pretty similar, with tails having higher cutting values than bludgeoning values.

Okay. so am I right in thinking that the game shows orange damage numbers when you hit a weak point?

Orange damage numbers are critical hits, actually- so with weakness exploit they usually ARE weak points, but there's still a chance they're not.

If you're playing Rise, the large monster list has a list of all hit zones and how much each one takes from what kind of damage.

Ah, that makes sense. Got a little confused, and google was little help somehow. Thanks!

And now back to the grind. Gotta get two units of Goss Harag Bile to craft Master Touch decorations. Should work way better on my Hi Ninja Blade set than Razor Sharp. Might even get rid of Speed Sharpen altogether.

EDIT: wait, hold up, I'm using the hi Ninja Blade! All my attacks should be critical hits, but I'm still getting white damage numbers if I hit parts that I know aren't weak points.

There's no way orange numbers are critical hits. Those have to be attacks on weak parts; I'm wielding a GS with an affinity of -30%, and you're telling me every single tail hit I do is a critical?

So the first event quest is Tetranodon with HR 6 stats. Can't say I'm impressed.

I've picked up the Charge Blade and it's... something. I can charge the shield just fine but I can't find any opening to charge the blade itself. I also whiff a lot of big axe attacks too

And here I am with my pokestick still coming out to 19 minute hunts on average.[lol]

Well done! Especially with hunts like Almudron and Magnamalo.

I did my first solo Teostra hunt today, and it went pretty well, even if it took a while. Again, I really love what they did to remix the Teostra's theme song.

Though I have to say, Teostra's icon art kind of makes it look like a little monstrous hamster...

[up][up][up]i dont know if you're doing this already, but if you're really looking to bring down your times then it's going to be for the best that you make duals for each element and a set to go along with it.

blast is always going to lag behind them due to status buildup and the nature of monsters having wildly different thresholds for blast buildup and damage. element is pretty much always going to be the highest damage output due to the nature of how dual blades work.

unfortunately dual blades got really screwed over in Rise, with most of its important motion values knocked down to about 2/3rds what they used to be, and not having a good damaging silkbind skill note  and crit element being heavily nerfed.

in all likelihood you're better off switching to a different weapon if you're really trying to bring down your times.

[up]Still plenty to gain on DB, though. There's times of less than 4 minutes on Magnamalo, for example.

I've made it up to four stars with sword and shield and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The switch skill that let's you do a high jump after one hit has been really nice.
