Got World a couple days ago, and tried it out today. I think I'm really feeling the Charge Blade, it feels right somehow. I'm still working out the kinks because exactly which attacks generate Phials isn't 100% clear, but otherwise it clicked for me in a way the other weapons didn't.

Or maybe I just like turning into a lightning Beyblade.

Nice! That's the beauty of having many weapon types and finding out which one feels best.

Anyway, IIRC all CB attacks help charging the phials, but the charge attack (Circle on PS 4, B on Xbone) is the best. Just hold it a bit and release it; there's a visual cue for that.

Valor Style in Generations Ultimate is kind of crazy, especially with the bow and how fast you can spam shots to build meter for it. It, and how uniformly awesome Valstrax in the demo is has got me torn - I miss a lot of the good things World did for the formula but I still really want to dive into Ultimate for the sheer breadth of content and how fun the hunting styles and Prowlers are.

i finally has monhan world now :D

now im just fiddling about with settings to figure out whether the fact it feels slow to control is just typical monhan or if my pc cant actually handle the game at its best.

Sn S 4 lyfe (...but charge blade gets the honor of first hunt. because its cool.)

Just had a Tobi-Kadachi hunt that went really badly for the Tobi-Kadachi. A Rathian and Rathalos showed up in the same area at the same time and proceeded to double-team the Tobi-Kadachi.

i learned how to charge blade with this video

tl;dr charge attack -> shield blast -> charge attack -> shield blast -> power up shield -> charge attack -> shield blast -> charge attack -> shield blast -> power up sword -> super amped elemental discharge. also learn to use guard points.

it's a good weapon

Nergigante down. I had a bunch of really good hunters with me, because we took down that thing in less than five minutes.

Now to grind the thing for its armor.

So is Anjanth supposed to be That One Boss? Because he's a fucking asshole.

Welp, I've hunted my quotas of tempered monsters. Can't help but feel they're really lazy. I legit can't see the graphical difference on most of them, and the only differences I've noticed so far is the amped up damage and the flash pod resistance that only ever matters on rathalos/rathians, legiana and kushala daora.

Apex monsters weren't exactly the pinnacle of good design, but they at least had legit good ideas going on beyond just amking weapons bounce off them (and I'd argue that at least the wystone system was built around that mechanic, so it at least made the fights feel significantly different from fighting a regular monster) and hitting hard. borrowing moves from your subspecies was a pretty interesting idea imo.

Although I guess I should compare the apex to arch-tempered and regular tempered to just frenzy monster... And I still stand by what I say. Frenzied monsters at least had a lot more going on visually : The very visible purple aura, the more aggressive behavior, the distorted screams, and the "oh shit" factor when a seemingly normal monster suddenly doze off in the middle of a fight and wakes up frenzied.

Next stop, maxing out research on every monster, and then... i dunno, craft and upgrade every available greatsword or farm fro upgrades of my actual GS, I guess.

[up]Anjanath suffers from a very severe case of hitbox dissonance. i'd argue he's almost on the level of freedom unite's plesioth at times. He clearly isn't intended to be that hard, and his tempered version is a walking joke.

He's the first real challenge in the game. A lot of them are only going to start getting less and less lenient from him on.

Yeah, I'd say the Anjanath was the first real challenge the game threw at you. It's funny, because I've casually killed them for just being between me and my hunt. Just goes to show how strong you get.

I'm trying to imagine a first-time player going up against the Anjanath, thinking it's the first major challenge the game throws at them...and then the Anjanath gets into a turf war against the Rathalos.

I've seen it. Rathalos just throws it off a tiny ledge and Anjanath just walks off, they don't really fight and it doesn't really help in the fight against either.

I feel like he can hit me no matter where I am or what I'm doing, and he feels way more durable than anything else.

Edit: I know for a fact his fire breath hits things it visibly should not.

Carrying over Insect Glaive preference from Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The new heavy air attack while insect boosted is awesome. I bounce all over the place like a blender blade came free while the blender was on.

Didn't even know the Generations Ultimate demo was out. Definitely gonna download that when I get home today.

[up][up]I was actually thinking about said players' reactions being along the lines of "Oh crap, there are much bigger fish in this sea than I thought."

Speaking of World, I managed to forge the complete Nergigante alpha armor set and the Nergigante Insect Glaive. Anyone know if this armor set is a good match against the questline Elder Dragons (Teostra, Kushala Daora, and Vaal Hazak)?

the mounting-ability added onto the Sn S charge is incredibly satisfying.

also tried out the bow. against the barroth by accident cuz i didnt expect it.

not too bad actually. seems like bows easier to get into in world compared to 4u, though it still takes a while to kill things when you run out of coatings.

[up] Agreed entirely about the SnS! It's more or less my main, and figuring out I could mount with the charge attack was a very pleasant surprise.

nergi armor works pretty well against elder dragons from what i've seen.

Nergigante armor pieces usually have great endgame skills and are very popular in mixed sets even with the addition of other great armors down the line (Lunastra, Arch-Tempered Elder Dragons, Drachen...). It also boasts most of the best Dragon weapons (and some of the best non-Elementless weapons as well) in the game before Deviljho, IIRC.

Thanks for the input. I'll try it out when I go up against the other Elder Dragons.

Speaking of Elder Dragons, I wonder when we PC players will get the Kulve Taroth.

Speaking of Bows, I picked them up and I must say... They're pretty good. Fairly safe distance play and still able to deal an amount of damage.

Though, it seems to be pretty weak even with coatings.

Bow is a devastating weapon when mastered. I've seen some scary stuff with that.

Well, one thing I'd say first is to make sure you're hitting at Critical Distance. Every shot type has one (Spread for close-range, Rapid for mid-range, Pierce for longer distances...). When you hit at the right distance, you deal much more damage. You'll know because the screen shakes when you do it right.

If it's World and you have damage numbers turned on, you can also see that you're hitting for a lot more damage when you're at the right range.

Dragon Piercer is your friend for big dog damage, but you need to use it wisely. The individual numbers will typically be smaller than other weapons, but the bow's relatively limited downtime since you don't need to ever sharpen it, its mobility, and its speed mostly make up for it.
