Which I why I'd never use the gunlance against anything that I thought had a fair chance of actually killing me. Hardest thing I've used it on is HR Legiana, who I've had a lot of practice fighting.

It sure as hell fucks up low rank monsters good though. I monstered poor Jagras in under 30 seconds one time. I just noticed one day that my horde of Bazel materials would let me get the highest tier Bazel gunlance instantly and decided to try it out for a laugh. And oh did I laugh. But I can't really get used to keeping constant damage up on the monster and keeping it loaded at the same time, and I'm always committing myself to the Wyrmstake attack at the worst possible moment. I do like the shield though, it's nice to be able to stand in front of a charging Diablos and laugh when he barely dings my lifebar.

For melee, I sure would recommend using the old good Crit Draw GS set, since Kirin demands hit-and-run tactics. Dunno about Bow, but in my successful run, one of my colleagues was using it.

[up][up] I've never quite gotten the hang of the gunlance, but I'm pretty good with the regular lance, and being able to block is especially useful for strong, aggressive monsters who are perfectly happy to close the gap themselves. I'd agree that Diablos is a perfect example of that.

FINALLY got the full Xeno'Jiiva set! Went with alpha since the beta only has two extra gem slots and it's not as if I've got a massive collection of gems right now anyway. His horns really don't want to drop. Thankfully I also got a third Xeno gem. All I need is another tail and I'll have enough for the bow as well.

Questions regarding his boss fight:

Is there any reliable way to avoid his tail swipe? Unless you're right under him when he starts it or a mile away, it's pretty much guaranteed you're going to eat damage, and it's kind of annoying.

Is his health variable? Because sometimes he goes down relatively quickly and other times I'm shouting "JUST DIE!" at the screen while hitting him with Dragon Piercer over and over again.

How do you get his tail off with the bow? Last time I fought him I hit him half a dozen times from head to tail with Dragon Piercer and it still wouldn't come off. I can't get Nergigante's tail off either, but with him its because there are no good opportunities for Dragon Piercer, whereas Xeno is so slow it's pretty easy but his tail just doesn't want to come off.

Are you consistently in the damage zone for the bow? Too close or too far away and the bow does significantly less damage.

Yeah, I know how to use it. I was aiming for his head and forelegs whenever I could, switching to his chest when he powers up because it does way more damage than normal, and using power and close range coatings. It's not that I can't deal enough damage, it just seems like sometimes he just decides not to die. Last time I fought him I was nailing him with Dragon Piercer shots pretty much the whole fight whenever I got the chance but he still lasted an uncomfortably long time (uncomfortable as in I was running low on Mega Potions at that point.)

It might just be my imagination but it feels like he sometimes has way more health than normal. maybe it's my choice of bow, the Nergal Whisper is my go-to bow for anything that doesn't have a clear elemental weakness but it doesn't deal amazing amounts of damage to him (at max charge aimed at his head it does 3 shots of around 25 damage, and that's with close range coating applied and in the ideal range.) I could try using the Galebender and stacking as much Critical Eye as I can to get the affinity out of negative I suppose. I've only fought him about 8 times, so I still don't really know the best way to deal with him.

Iirc there used to be a relation between a monster's size and its health. Not sure if this still applies - and, now that I think of it, Xeno is always the same size, so it wouldn't count.

If any of you played the Japanese-only Monster Hunter 2, I have a question. Someone added in the character tab of the second-generation monsters that Teostra was an online-exclusive monster in that game, just as Lunastra was offline-exclusive. But according to the MH wiki, the only online-exclusive monsters were Rajang, Shen Gaoren, Yama Tsukami, and the Fatalis family (I assume the high-rank subspecies of veteran monsters are offline-exclusive as well for being high-rank material).

I considered editing the article to remove the bit about Teostra being online-exclusive, but I'm consulting here first just in case.

I think I've validated my arch tempered Kirin build (as much as I can before actually fighting it anyway); Shadow shades, Vaal Hazak chest, arms, and legs, Kirrin waist, and a thunder charm 3.

Main skills are: stun, paralysis, and lightning resist 3, recovery speed 3, recovery up 3, health boost 3, and super recovery.

My only real concern was that it only has 31 lightning resistance but I was just able to clear a tempered Kirin investigation 4 times with 0 faints and finishing in <15 minutes each time; unless the buff from tempered to arch tempered is enough that it can one shot me from 200 health I should be all right.

Edit: It worked; 1 faint 30 minutes on my first try. Arch tempered appears to buff health but not attack to any significant degree; if you can reliably kill tempered Kirin, arch tempered shouldn't pose too much of a problem

[up][up]No, it's correct. Teostra was online-exclusive in Monster Hunter 2. I'm actually not sure why the wiki doesn't say that, but they're also not our wiki, so

Gotcha. One of the unfortunate side effects of a game being exclusive to a region is that the players from the outside have a difficult time checking facts. It is bad enough that Freedom 2 is erroneously described as "essentially a handheld port of Monster Hunter 2" (even by Wikipedia, no less); never mind that the story and setting is different in both games, and Freedom 2 didn't have the season mechanic from the original 2.

One last question: Is Chameleos fightable offline in that game, or is it too an online-only monster?

so today square enix revealed that a rathalos will be coming to FF 14

What they didnt say (and are probably saving for the Capcom conference) is that a FF14 behemoth is coming to MHW

Much more excited to fight a Final Fantasy monster in World than I am fighting a Monster Hunter monster in XIV, to be honest.

Apparently this sucker's a King Behemoth, too. That'd be amazing if his post-death Meteors could cart you and fail the hunt.

I'm really surprised that didn't get a mention in Sony's E3 presentation... but then, lord, who knows what was going on with that mess.

On a personal note with regards to World:

I've been using Switch Axe my whole playthrough, and I'd like to think I've gotten fairly respectably decent at it. But, last night, along with some pretty lucky decoration pulls, I realized I had enough materials to craft up to a Diablos Hammer and make a decent build out of it, and decided, what the hey.

I just hunted a Tempered Kushala, and whole it was mostly hugely irritating not to have Elderseal, I worked my through it. When it went to sleep up in its perch, with its head off the side, I wasn't sure how to approach it best.

Then I saw my angle. Planted bombs around the head, swung off the beetle with a charged smash. I think I did like 1040 with my hit, mounted it, and finished cleanly.

Guess I'm a hammer main now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyone manage to solo Arch Tempered Val yet? Seems a little on the silly side - I had to restock on ammo 4 times and Around the 40 minute mark it wasn't even near death, yet.

[up]Yeah I've found it fairly easy using LS and a regen setup; 6 kills and 3 carts total between them.

I've heard that it's aura blocks ranged attacks though so that may be the problem your running into, you have to target either it's head or tail to avoid the aura.

How would the Behemoth be classified in Monster Hunter, anyway? It looks vaguely like a Fanged Wyvern, but it also seems likely it will default to Elder Dragon since it defies traditional classifications.

Probably an elder dragon by virtue of its ability to summon meteors at will. In the collaboration picture the Behemoth is also much larger than the Rathalos.

I honestly think XIV's kinda getting short changed since while Rath is iconic there are many more interesting monsters they could of used in its place.

Doesn't the Behemoth's promotional image also show it with a freaking Deviljho in its mouth? I'm guessing that thing is going to badass.

I also thought it was a Deviljho, but that would make the Behemoth comparable in size to Xeno'jiiva... which thinking about the size of King Behemoth in FFXIV, might not be out of the question... but then there'd be nowhere in the Elder's Recess big enough for him.

So yeah, it's probably a Dodogama :P

When is Behemoth supposed to pop in anyway? I want to wear it into battle.
