I've got to disagree with you there.
My cleric was consistently my highest leveled Not-Laharl on my team. I gave her a bow and had her make a trio of mages as soon as she had enough mana(in retrospect, I should've only given her one apprentice). Then I switched to staff for the rest of the game and let her pupils teach her damage spells. This let her have a heavy magic offense, while still tossing out heals, and take advantage of the cleric's nice elemental resists, 50 across the board.
Eventually made one of her mage pupil a cleric as well, to take over healing because the original was such a great nuker.

Happy to see Captain Gordon again!
Not going to lie this just seems like a new paint job. Which I don't think is a very good thing. I mean the Switch and PS 4 both have D5 on them, and to go from the mechanically superior, and possibly story superior game to this might burn off some new fans and make them not even buy D6. The throwing itself and the separate Item bag are already not good signs. I hope they don't go back to the old way of how legendary items worked but from what I've seen they may have even gone back to that.
Edit: Just checked my D5 game and it seems like they may have even gone back to the old way of how Legendary items worked.

The story for D5 is probably its weakest point, imo, mostly because it relied on its one-note characters. I haven't played all of the first game but I don't see how it could be a weaker story than D5.
I think that D5 has some interesting points, particularly towards the end, but it's one of the few Disgaea games that made me wish the campaign were just a bit shorter. Like the characters grow out of being one-note, but they could have done so a little earlier, I think.
D3 struck me as the weakest story.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I really liked the bit where Majorita ends up as one of Void Dark's zombies in the last chapter. Not so much for the death, or the brutality of it. Just being denied catharsis, and the characters being all, "Wait. No. This isn't how the story's supposed to go!" But also, acknowledging that they don't feel sorry for her, exactly. This just wasn't how their quest for revenge was supposed to end. "There's so much I want to say to you - but seeing you like this, I can't! So I'll just say this: I hope you find the people you hurt in the afterlife and truly apologize to them."
Personally I found Disgaea 4 to have the weakest story, the last third of the game just really fell apart for me. I actually found D3 to have the cast that I liked the most. 2 and 5 are mostly average for me although I like 5 a bit more than 2 and DD 2 was pretty fun as well. If I had to rank them it would be
D3>DD 2>D5>D1>D2>D4
Truthfully though the more I think about it the more I really think they should have remade Makai Kingdom.
D2 has the weakest story and character combination for me. Character design was on point, but that's true more often than not.
Ironically, its also the game I've put the most hours into thanks to the PSP port.

They must be doing something right - it sounds like everyone has different favorites!
I really liked the escalating ridiculousness of the "final chapters" in D4, and Fear the Great is a cool concept that I hope a future game does more with.
My own order is 1>4>D2>5>3>2
3 and 2 had really bad stories. But at least I remember much of 3's; can't say that for 2.
Yeah, this series is positively divisive.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!As for remakes/remasters I want, I'll just keep hammering on Soul Nomad And The World Eaters. Forever and a day. More of that.

For me when it comes to Remakes or Remasters, I would love to get Soul Nomad, or Makai Kingdom. Personally I wouldn't mind if they decided to go the FF route with Makai Kingdom and just have the gameplay but focus on a completely different set of overlords.
I'm guessing the November 27th release date on Amazon for Disgaea 1 Complete is probably just a placeholder for the generic Fall 2018 date they've officially given for the US release. I've been getting more into D5 Complete lately on my Switch, still really the only game in the series I've played, and I'm sure the rerelease will be the ideal way to get myself acquainted with the first game, certainly more than the DS port I never really got into.
On a TL;DR for me, is this a remaster?
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...I think it is remaster but from what I've seen they haven't changed a whole lot they seem to have only updated the graphics.
They replaced the Galactic Demons with Rifle Demons, the old Winged are probably replaced by mothmen, and some other class stuff were changed according to GameFAQs.

Galactic Demons to Rifle Demons? That's kind of a downgrade.
Indeed, but to be fair the Rifle Demons have been in more games.
The Princess Guide looks interesting.
Trying to finish Disgaea 5. Tips for starting the late/post game?

Yeah, leveling up Clerics in the first game is way more tedious than it should be.
