Hm, managed to get the jellyfish spirit, but then immediately screwed up getting the cow. It's really a pain if you don't remember exactly when Urumi shows up. And we don't have practice mode yet...

Is it just me or is this game pretty stingy with Lives? I think I've only got like 1 and 1/3 lives by the end.

A bit, yeah. I think the hypers are supposed to make up for it. And life drops may get more frequent as the game goes on (and that's assuming there's no rebalancing before the full release)

I found it bothersome to try and collect spirits while trying to dodge bullets.

They don’t vanish like UF Os did (until the end of a stage), so you can focus on dodging if need be, and grab the spirits in lulls.

Not collecting a collectible as soon as I see it hurts my gamer soul.

Something people have noticed is that in addition to the obvious theme of animals, each of the bosses so far have also had something to do with children (Youka is the ghost of an infant, Urumi has her stone baby, and Kutaka has a chick nesting in her hair (that’s the weakest connection)). I was thinking that if that theme holds, maybe the final or extra boss could be Momotaro. A child who ventured into the onis’ territory with animals as his companions. I dunno, could be interesting, but this is all just speculation.

Yes. Her character introduction uses Eika, but her health bar uses Youka.

Another big difference between beast spirits and UFOs is that it doesn't matter all that much which spirits you get, the roaring modes aren't drastically better or worse than the others and at worst you only miss the beast-specific effect (you still get the PCB-like border effect).

And I'm disliking the fact that bullets can still get past the otter's barrier during its roaring mode.

Also so far the theme I'm liking the most is the main menu theme.

Speaking of the main menu, Reimu's soles there are transparent, only the outlines are drawn.

Ebisu is her surname. Eika/Youka is her first name, which is the one that’s in confusion.
