So, earlier today I was thinking that I'd have loved it if Niwatari, being a chicken, had an attack involving wandering enemies that punish you with an aimed attack if you attack them. You know, kinda like how the Legend of Zelda games punish you for attacking the chickens by having a giant flock of invincible chickens kill you. And then I replayed the demo and realized that her final attack totally does do that. It's too abstract to know if it's actually a reference to anything, but I found the coincidence to be neat, at least.
Checking out the early translation of the demo, the different goasts do indeed change the character's personality. I tried each of Marisa's routes, and the contrast was pretty wild

I have a message from another time...There were enemies that did that on the Prismriver stage so it’s not unheard of
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh for sure; it's not a new concept. I was just thinking that it'd be fun if she had one of those, for the possible reference.

I have a message from another time...The idea that violence is bad and gets immediate reprisal is a funny one for touhou honestly
Forever liveblogging the Avengersx4 There's a translation already?
It’s in progress.
I have a message from another time...I got home from work last night, saw the demo, and immediately did this
also hi
Once, I had a thought. I liked it, so I had another.Hello
What a good art of an ex-drown girl and purveyor of fish and fish accessories
Forever liveblogging the AvengersKutaka's fight is annoying and her theme gets on my damn nerves.
Apparently there are secret achievements.
Yeah, if you beat the midbosses in certain ways, you can get unique animal spirits for each one. Riding out the full beast mode with one of the unique spirits in the stack lets you get 4 beast spirits as a reward, instead of the usual 2.
- To get the Jellyfish from Youka, You have to beat her midboss attack without killing any of the yellow spirits she summons
- To get the Cow from Urumi, You have to fight her midboss attack really close to her. It makes the attack relatively easy to dodge, since the yellow bullets are aimed to lock you down at the bottom of the screen. I'm not sure of the exact requirements, but probably if you just avoid going too low on the screen, you'll get it.
- To get the Chicken from Kutaka, You need to defeat her midboss attack while using the Otter beast mode. Requires some planning, since Otter doesn't do as much damage as the other two, and you can't take advantage of your bomb power while in beast mode.

I have a message from another time...Of course, ZUN's first character art with boobs (not just a bust, but boobs) is the Cow...
Komachi didn't have boobs?
, Nitori is also often referenced in that regard, I think.
Okay, that I thought was just fanon.
Quite possible! Could go either way, but at this point I already feel uncomfortable Sooooooo..... how about them chickens?
Apparently the eagle goast is racist against chickens.
I have a message from another time...Reimu: -Kicks the dog repeatedly with Youka-

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Okay, story impressions:
- 9 routes is too many. ZUN was making them pretty different when there were 4, but he's not keeping that up like this
- The spirit with the matching colour is the one with the closest personality. Reimu-wolf in particular isn't really any different from how she normally is
- Kutaka doesn't warn Youmu not to trust her spirit for some reason?
- Ebisu is actually kind of mean. You'd think she'd be the nicest of the bosses, but, no, it's the opposite
@Boobs: The shading on Nitori's chest is kinda suggestive of breasts, I guess. Urumi's the first character that has distinct individual breasts, though
Ebisu's got cause to be antagonistic with our heroes; regardless of what goast you've got with you, you just knocked over all the stones on your way through. In comparison, Urumi in some routes is just digging for an excuse to try the stone baby trick on someone.
Maybe Youmu's weird half-ghost nature makes it harder for Kutaka to notice that she's possessed. She still warns Youmui about how Hell will take advantage of mental weaknesses, but she frames it like an issue with Youmu herself, rather than what the goast is doing to her.
I do find it kinda funny that even the Otter can't make Reimu much softer. Otter-Marisa is downright timid, but Otter-Reimu is more like "Sorry I had to beat you up", "Sorry I'm so much stronger than you", and "Ugh, I really don't want to go to Hell, but it's the job, so..."

I have a message from another time...stone baby trick?
“Hey, can you hold this baby for me, just for a second?”
“Uhh, sure”
“Cool, thanks.” *makes stone baby unnaturally heavy with oni magic*
“Waaah!” *sinks into the river*

It’s a routine she did a lot back before she was banned from killing humans from Gensokyo.

I have a message from another time...I see, BTW had any characters from the more recent games appeared in fanworks (fan-games specifically)?
So am I after her boss fight.
i mean we are literally crossing the sanzu river (which the 2nd stage name likens it to the river styx) to go to hell so yes you are entirely accurate
