Well, the control rod kind of makes her cyborgesque, depending on how she sees it. It's sort of integrated into her being, you know? Does she need it to manage her own power, or is it just for managing the reactors? Can she take it off?
It wouldn't make her sound stilted and mechanical, though, I guess. The "drilled by rote" theory works for me.
Her profile suggests she needs the third leg to control her own power. And, yes, she has been seen with it off.

She can take it off. In one of the SA endings she isn't wearing it. It isn't clear whether the same is true for her third eye, elephant leg, or valence electrons.
She probably needs it to control nuclear power or at the very least it manifests when she uses the power of the Yatagarasu because it represents the third leg.

I think the only thing that's permanently attached to her (besides the wings) is the big red gem on her chest. I think the idea that it's actually embedded in her rather than just being part of her clothes is pretty cool.

It seems I'm the only person who thinks Utsuho has a little intelligence. I always thought that she was just a normal Hell Raven with too much of an ego, and jumped at the chance to get that god (cant remember it's name) before any other hell Raven (And there were probably better candidates) could stop her.
With Great Power Comes Great Insanity, you know. At the very least, she would be extremely fluent in Nuclear Physics. and all that nuclear energy lets Tagento and Goemon constantly fuck up genso....
I also seem to be the only person who thinks Okuu is the strongest character in Touhou. She's one the few who could best some of my OC's in a physical fight (In a danmaku, the girls have a huge advantage; they're actually good at it and can fly, so they would win bascially every time). And trust me, some of them, Like Grigan, Okuan, and Goemon, are pretty much powerful enough to beat anybody in a one-on-one.

I always assumed that she couldn't see out of that eye, and that it was just a kind of Fate Worse than Death for Yatagarasu, who's forced to be permanently attached to someone who it probably feels is unworthy to be the successor of it's power. Or something.

I believe Yatagarasu was in fact already dead, as Hylarn says.
Although, having the "Eye" actually be Yatagarasu himself embedded in her body is actually kind of an interesting idea...
And a lot of people, including myself, have noted the similarity to the Eye of Sauron. I think that's pretty funny.
