In a fic I (should be) writing, I somehow ended up making Cedric Digory and Viktor Krum Those Two Guys, mainly because they keep making comments about that story's Harry. I see 2814 Asuna and Setsuna having this sort of relationship, comedy-wise, as they're good when playing off each other (or so I've always belived). though an Asuna/Setsuna commnetary duo still pales in the face of a single Chisame. I'm actually sad we missed out on all the chances for have Chisame and Calculator become a full on Lampshade Hanging squad in hte earlier crossover chapters, OM. That SHOULD have been awesome...

WE MUST MAKE UP FOR IT!

[up]The thing is Chisame and Calculator sit-stand at different sides of the action once things get going, so it's difficult to keep them a lampshading duo as soon as trouble kicks up. That kind of thing works better for them during the quieter moments.

Well, we have the post-battle tour of Kyoto and the train trip back to make up for it, plus as much of the current chapter as we can squeeze in.

All right, little game: name combinatiosn of the Negima girls that would make for a Those Two Guys comedy duo. Besides Asuna/Setsuna, OM's established Mana/Kaede, the semi-canon Nodoka/Yue, and the definitely canon Asakura/Sayo, Eva/Chacha...

Come to think of it, a lot of the girls already go into good pairs, though Tsukuyomi/Paio Zi, while never having met, is in my headcanon...

[up]True that. Plus, they can still communicate through their respective systems, although Calculator can talk more then since Chisame has her hands fuller during fights. Maybe Calculator should start doing heavier comment on Chisame's condition when that happens?

Oh, in URAE, Those Two Girls would include Rukia/Sayo, Chizuru/Natsumi, Madoka/Nagato (the SOS Brigade member Madoka's the closest to as of now), Takane/Mei, probably Shizuna/Chie-sensei...

Chisame is squishy compared to every one else. She has not speed boost worth mentioning, and what ablities she has is more offensive than defensive in nature, so I suspect she'd hang back and snipe.

Actually, her and Matoi or her and Hakase do make a pretty good Magistra/Ministra duo already in theory: one in front to tank, and Chisame at back to shoot.

Out of all the current Ministra, Haruka, Asuna and Hakase are definitely tanks to attack first while Haruna, Chisame and Misa are better at staying behind taking advantage of their charge and cover them with their longer ranged attacks.

Sakurako and Misora are wild cards that probably can move between lines as the situation calls for it. Sakurako is lucky enough to make it through the field unharmed, while Misora is fast enough to do the same.

Aaaaand we have a deployment strategy! Except for Nodoka and Chisame, most of Ala Alba see themselves as tanks, even Haruna, and role-wise, Nodoka acts like Servant Assassin: going in (regardless, of course, of how dangerous it is!), and kicking ass with telepathy-fu. Chisame, as the Only Sane Man, hangs back and lets her maids do the fighting.

While URAE Haruna can act as frontline when the situation calls for it (having the martial arts added edge 2814's Paru lacks), it's important to remember, from a psychological point of view, she's more Nabiki than Ranma. She will attack directly when she sees her friends endangered, but otherwise, she won't be a Leeroy Jenkins like Ranma can be at times.

That's a diffrence between the two we should play up, if only so that it's apparent there are more differencs between them than URAE Haruna being that kind of Saotome and knowing martial arts. I think people expect URAE Haruna to swoop in and be a hero, so it should make a good contrast shot when Deathnore wants to charge in fighting all Leeroy Jenkins-like and Haruna... doesn't, despite the fact the latter is more capable of physically surviving a direct fight than the former, who relies entirely on her Artifact (she'll actually need to be reminded to get magic from Negi to boost herself!!!).

Yeah, I see URAE Haruna as, once she gets serious, being actually quite a battlefield thinker. Ranma himself is a very competent Indy Ploy schemer when he isn't being blinded by emotion, and adding to that Nabiki's pragmatism, their daughter should be the "Keep your distance and try beating them from there first, get close when you're sure you can do it" type.

In that way, she could complement Negi himself, who kinda has the same type of thinking in battle. And offers a nice parallel, with Haruna being, in terms of fighting style, pretty much the same to Ranma than Negi is to Nagi.

The main thing holding her back for now is she still isn't used to actual fighting out of family sparrings, and thus doesn't get the dynamics of life and death incidents yet.

Edit: Although in fairness, Ranma's style might owe more to Xanatos Speed Chess than to Indy Ploy.

This is the same Ranma that managed to convince someone that they accidentally traveled back in time, right? Nabiki's strengths lied more with figuring out how to profit from other peoples plans rather than coming up with her own. Heck, when Haruna pretended to be Chizuru to Natsumi away from Negi and Nodoka, that was something Ranma would of and has thought of.

You say Haruna takes after Nabiki, but from what I can recall (This fic is way too huge and complicated) she takes a lot after more after Ranma.

Will write for Tropes!

[up]I meant it in terms of willingness to risking herself there, actually. Nabiki has no "battle strategy" of her own at all because she's no fighter.

Edit: Granted, the dodgeball game showcased Haruna sacrificing herself for Nodoka in a way Nabiki would have never done, but that was a combination of it being only a game and Nodoka just being THAT important for Haruna at the end of the day.

"You look like you're about to have a stroke!"

I'm not sure whether the fact that you using "complement" correctly gives me warm fuzzies says worse things about me, or about everyone else.

Meeting of the Minds

Satomi's first encounter with the Governor-General outside of formal business arrangements was not exactly as auspicious as she'd have liked. It wasn't during some eureka moment of masterful application of the field of physics she'd invented almost single-handedly. Oh no. It just had to be while she was engaged in a shouting match with a stack of scratch paper. The paper was winning, despite not doing any shouting itself. That didn't seem fair. The Governor-General astutely noticed that she seemed to be rather stressed, and suggested that they go out for drinks to try to get her head on straight.

Whatever the certain people later claimed, Kurt's motives for the invitation were entirely aboveboard and platonic. For all the intelligence and drive she'd needed to achieve her doctorate at such a young age, the stresses of such a tremendous, politically-fraught project were obviously burning her out, and it would be a tragedy to lose such an adept young mind so early in her life. He had just intended to give her some encouragement, and assumed their meetings would end as soon as she'd learned to cope.

He'd had no interest in romance since Arika had made her choice clear. Hakase was over two decades his junior, and if he'd needed any reminding of that fact, her evident inexperience with alcohol would have done it.

Even after she mentioned bitterly that her work had been easier that time she'd helped with a world domination plot (or close enough as made no difference), and the ensuing conversation left both their drinks forgotten on the table, he never expected it to become more than simple friendship with one of his few intellectual equals.

In retrospect, Satomi should have paid more (i.e., any) attention to how much alcohol she drank during those discussions. Intellectually she was aware that it could have adverse effects on her if she wasn't careful, but the Governor-General's conversation was so fascinating, and it was hard to believe he'd let her come to any real distress. Besides, she never got drunk enough to impair her prized rationality. She may have been slightly distracted one night from their discussion about the therapeutic uses of mind control, but that was simply because she'd noticed that the Governor-General's lips looked abnormally soft, and decided to collect some empirical data to confirm or deny her hypothesis. What could be more logical?
It might be surprising that Kurt's reaction to being unexpectedly kissed was to voluntarily seek out Albireo Imma for help. However, the only other feasible options were Nagi (idiot), Jack (single idiot), Eishun (idiot about romance), Evangeline (stalker), his adopted son (what child could be expected to give advice about such a matter to a parent?), and Hakase herself. Besides, Albireo had to be good at keeping confidences in order to pursue his bibliographic hobby.

“It's not that I haven't had...interested parties before, but I never expected it from her.”

“Certainly not. How could you ever expect a socially isolated young genius to fall for a charismatic older politician who treats her as an equ-”

Another point in Al's favor was his willingness to shrug off being interrupted by a theoretically lethal attack. Granted, this was counterbalanced by how often he provoked them.

“She's one of Negi's students. I would expect her to be aware of my feelings for Arika. You know how those girls gossip.”

“Ah yes. Arika.” With that, Al shifted into that very woman. “And when was the last time you thought about me, young man?”

Kurt couldn't find an answer for that. He couldn't even think to attack the damnable book. Said damnable book took the opportunity to shift into Hakase and lean coquettishly forward.

“You wouldn't even be here if you didn't have some interest in me, Governor.” She (well, he, technically, but that was hard to remember right now) traced a finger across his cheek. “Or do you really think I'm so unloveable? A silly child?” Her (his! His, dammit!) eyes began to fill with tears (crocodile tears! Al could make them on command), and Kurt stalked out after a brief scuffle.

The gadfly had a point, as he did distressingly often. Kurt of all people knew that young people could be capable of so much more than their elders suspected.

The only people Satomi would consider turning to for help with problems of the heart (the metaphorical one, at least. She was aquainted with some excellent healers) and possibly certain other organs were Chao, Satsuki, and Chachamaru. Of those three, only Chachamaru currently shared both a timeline and time zone with her. For some reason, when she went to ask for help, the robot nearly shut down from overheating on the spot. Fortunately, she recovered quickly, and directed Satomi to ask Eva for help and not worry about what had just happened.

After Eva stopped laughing, she proved remarkably helpful, providing thorough explanations complete with charts and graphs. She did make one comment that utterly baffled Satomi, though.

“You really like the well-intentioned, world-dominating villain type, don't you? I guess Fate just wasn't enough of a mastermind for you.”

“One data point is not enough to extrapolate a trend from.”

“One data point? Please. You can't tell me Godel was your first crush. The Springfield blood is powerful, even when diluted by the generations.”

It was a good thing the rest of her advice was much easier to understand.

Their lives continued unchanged for a few months, except for the fact that their little chats tended to devolve (or evolve, depending on how you looked at it) into activities rather less cerebral. They then agreed that it would be most convienent for both if they moved in together, and took the opportunity to get discreetly married in order to lighten the tax burden a bit.
Once Hakase let it slip to a visiting Yuna that she'd been married to the Governor-General for several years already, the Wings Red and White dropped by together, riotous even by their normal standards. Chao herself showed up, to offer congratulations and the autographs of Nikola Tesla and Machiavelli.

Takahata engaged in a vigorous debate with the Governor-General about the ethics of romance with those much younger than oneself in general, and Takahata's former students in particular. The topics covered ranged from whether possession of the finest mind of her generation counted as extenuating circumstances and whether Takahata had any room to talk from the way Asuna was hanging on to him, all the way to reeking cigarettes and stupid faces. When questions of taste in eyewear came up, Satsuki had to step in.

As penance for their flagrant lack of romance, the couple was required to go through with a Shinto ceremony, a Western ceremony, and a Mundus Magica ceremony, all presided over by Ayaka.

Due to the happy couple's involvement with the space elevator project, there was a surprising amount of press for a story about a politician marrying a scientist, before the public's attention was caught by another shiny object.

They never had children together. They agreed that the ones they'd come into the marriage with were plenty.
After the Tragedy of '65 and Negi's funeral, the elderly couple's discourse naturally turned to immortality. Kurt's views had performed a dramatic reversal from the last time they'd discussed it, long ago.

“Even if I did possess a means of becoming immortal without a vampire's bloodlust or the defects that we saw in the Lifemaker and poor Negi, I wouldn't use it. Not alone. If I did, I would live more years without my dear Professor than with you, and that would be simply unacceptable.”

Satomi wiped some no-doubt-coincidental moisture out of her eyes. “Those words don't suit you, Governor. People like us, who sold our souls for the greater good, shouldn't be so sentimental.”

They'd told that joke to each other countless times over the years, but it still made him smile as he once again replied, “Didn't I tell you? I stole our souls back years ago.”

He died two years later, simply going to sleep one day and never awakening. It was a testament to the power of modern medicine that he'd lived as long as he did. Her death, three years later, was much more dramatic. The facts of the matter are as follows: A terrorist group claimed credit for sabatoging the life support systems on the space station where Satomi resided, and for leaving behind a booby trap to kill any crew members that attempted to repair the breach. Satomi's body was found by the crew at the sabatoge site, with injuries consistent with the booby trap. The life support systems had already been restored.

There are other things that people say about the incident. They say that she heard the station screaming, before any alarms went off. They say that at the moment of her passing, every Chachamaru model throughout known space stopped what they doing and hung their heads for a moment. They say that she was killed before she could start working, but Kurt Godel's shade refused to let Death within arm's reach of her until she was finished. They may be telling the truth.

Conclusion to the fight! Fouquet tries to defeat Negi without fighting and is shown that she should've used a sealed dome instead of a cage!

“Just stay still like that!”

A dome of rock that resembled a cage sprung around them both, although neither of them moved even an inch. Negi directed his gaze past Louise and found Longueville, her hair down and her wand pointed forward.

“I had wanted the Gandalfr to show me how to use the Staff Of Destruction, but I guess I will have to learn on my own after I crush you!”

Longueville's voice was no longer the kind secretary's but the thief Fouquet's. To Negi, it was a standard Tuesday when someone tries to sabotage the ISSDA. Where it was not a surprise, it had still been unexpected.

“I just reduced your golem to molten rock. Do you really think this little cage will stop me?”

“Not for long, it doesn't have to!” Fouquet smirked.

“I'll be back.” Negi said. With the sound of cracking lightning, Louise fell to her hands and knees, wondering where her familiar had disappeared to. But more importantly, how he had disappeared.

“Wha- urk!” Just at that moment, Fouquet found it hard to finish a sentence when your stomach suddenly tries to leap out of your body.

Negi, his eyes set in a glare, had his fist extended into Fouquet's stomach. The thief staggered several steps back and tried to do something. The moment Negi charged forward to deliver the followup that would knock her unconscious, a stone wall was raised in front of him.

When Fouquet tried to turn and run, however, he was in front of her, white as white could be, cracking with lightning. Trying to cast magic again was pointless, as when he raised her hand to aim he caught her by the wrist and twisted her around so he could grab the other one too. He was holding her from behind and her wrists were already starting to feel numb.

Nevermind the fact that she'd just felt one hell of a shock course through her, and it was getting hard to even think straight.

”Sagitta Magica: Aer Capturae”

She tried to shake him off, but the difference in physical strength proved too much to catch up. Soon enough, several light green lines started snaking around the thief from her wrists, wrapping around her arms and exerting pressure. Soon after, two arrows wrapped themselves around her mouth.

He let go and she fell to the ground, the arrows preventing her movements and speech.

The sound of a large pair of wings beating made him look up, only to see a blue dragon descending to the ground just past the stonewall. Leaving Fouquet unguarded wouldn't be a nice choice, but she was barely conscious, bound and gagged, so it'd be okay.

For the moment, at least.

“DEEEEAR!”

Negi only had enough presence of mind to deactivate Duplex Complexio just before Kirche glomped him. The added weight from her... ahem... twins actually did manage to knock him down to the ground. She seemed glad to see him fine and recovered.

Tabitha, meanwhile, broke the cage that kept Louise in her place.

“That was incredible! I hadn't seen it before, but you're really powerful!” Kirche commented. “This only makes you even more enticing!”

Somehow, he was sure that had he been weak and vulnerable, he'd have been just as enticing to Kirche. However, at the moment, he was just glad the redheaded sex bomb let him go before Louise went ballistic again.

“Fouquet?” Tabitha asked, walking into the group while holding Louise steady. Kirche rushed to help her. The moment the redhead had taken the pinkette, Tabitha was turning to face Negi.

“Miss Longueville was Fouquet all along.” Negi explained, then turned halfway to the still raised stone wall.

Tabitha then turned to the golem, which was still a pile of smoking rubble and boiling hot liquid dirt. Negi scratched the back of his neck. “I came prepared this time.” he admitted, smiling despite the situation.

It was then that he turned to look at Louise. She seemed much better now, although she would definitely need a bath after that ordeal. When he had to walk around the wall, he thought about the fact that he really wished he'd brought Derflinger with himself. Cutting through the wall would have been much more convenient.

In any case, once he had the now decidedly unconscious and still bound Fouquet slung over his right shoulder, he smiled. “So, I assume this was a success, then?” he asked.

Tabitha kept an eye on him throughout the whole trip back. It seemed she had something to say. Louise had to lean on Kirche for support until she could sit, something which was causing her no end of annoyance. Mostly because the redhead took this chance to poke fun at Louise. All in the name of good fun, though. She was a fair bit sterner when it came to dodging giant golem fists.

Kirche had laughed her ass off to Louise's reaction to an explained Pactio...

––

All three girls bowed in front of Old Osmond. “Fouquet is in custody of the Royal Guard and the Staff Of Destruction is back in our vault.” the old man explained. “Everything is alright now.” And the relief in his voice was clear. It seemed he was affected at a personal level. “You will be the honored guests of tomorrow's party.”

“Of course!” Kirche spoke, already preparing for her characteristic Noblewoman's laugh.

“This incident affected the Royal Court, so you three will receive some gifts from them.” And not from the school itself, as would have been expected.

“Ah! Gifts from the royal court? Awesome!” You know, I could make a dumb, materialistic broad comment here, Kirche, don't make it so tempting...

“'You three'? There's nothing for Negi?” asked Louise.

“Lamentably, he is not a noble by his own admission.” Old Osmond spoke.

“I see...” Louise didn't seem too thrilled by that.

Negi smiled widely. “I wasn't even part of the mission to begin with.” he corrected.

Old Osmond seemed glad to see someone who didn't give half a shizzle about prizes and bounties.

“I do, however, have a question I wish to ask.”

Puzzled as to her familiar's question, Louise followed Kirche and Tabitha out.

Kirche had boasted that she'd knock everyone's socks out of their feet. Well, not with that expression, but she'd gotten pretty close to it. And yes, everyone included women.

Louise then remembered an incident involving Kirche, her breasts and a dress that had been incapable of holding the puppies back. Since then, it was a known fact that Kirche could poke your eyes out with her assets. The memory had been enough to make her break into giggles, blushing slightly.

“Ah! I see you are already imagining how beautiful I will look!” Kirche continued boasting, her movements making those hypnotic movements that would make men stop to drool. Louise found out that it just further increased the hilarity of the image in her head.

Oh yes, it would be a sweet ball indeed.

And now, for something completely different: How do I get Negi on a tuxedo? Should I make him conveniently lose his glasses?

Top Ten Ways URAE Might End Up Badly, Continuation.

The End

He was wheezing and coughing, bleeding from all sides, by the time he saw her approaching him.

"Ah..." he said, trying to smile up at her. "Sayo-chan."

She still looked exactly the same, save for her more mature facial expression and her black and white Shinigami robes. The white haired girl knelt next to him and grabbed his cold hand tenderly. "Hello again, Sensei."

"I want to know... will everyone be okay?" he managed to gurgle through a mouthful of blood.

And she nodded. "Yes, thanks to you, the children of this age will live on. But the future from now on is theirs to guide. You've more than done your part by now, Negi-sensei. You beat the odds in '65, but even immortals can't avoid us forever. Just ask Eva-chan."

"I'm about to see her again, right?" He thought he had managed to smile. "She... She'll be mad at me, for going down like this... I didn't manage to live half as long as she did..."

"You're about to see everyone again," Sayo rubbed his hand, biting her lower lip. "Your suffering's about to end."

"Master... She sacrificed herself for me in '65..." he reminisced.

"I know."

"Is... she still angry about that?"

Gently, he pulled him up with herself. "Well, she isn't going to kill you, at least."

He had to laugh, finding it was much easier now. "I suppose you're right. Although I wouldn't put it past her, to have found a way..."

"Oh, be nice or I'll tell her you said that."

"Sayo-chan?"

"Yes?"

"Who taught you how to use swords?" He eyed the twin blades hanging from her waist.

"Oh, right, I haven't told you yet. I married Ichigo-kun forty nine years ago. Sorry for not inviting you, but you were, um... alive."

""You could have called."

"Well, the rules have been much stricter about not contacting the living ever since 'that event'. Why do you think Shamans diminished in number so much over the decades? Whoa, don't walk so fast. You just died, you've gotta get used to... Wait, you developed legs so quickly? Sensei, even now, you don't stop being so broken...!"

"Ha ha ha, sorry..."

"Want a spot in the Corps? I could put a word in for you. And several Captains have expressed interest on you once you finally... you know..."

"Thanks. But I think that, for now, I just want to rest for a while."

"Oh. It was about time."

He only nodded. "Yes. They were right all along."

And so they walked into the light.

"I'll be hearing 'I told you so' for ages, won't I?"

"Chisame-chan's prepared a whole opening speech full of it, so yes..."
