While Character Death is something I try to avoid, the story has gotten my attention.
Edit: Also, I'm perfectly willing to wait for the completion of the Darkest Void.

Then again, the only characters that are consistently dead in my fics are Nagi and Arika, and that's only if I can draw more drama from that fact.
I might go back to it. There are bits and pieces of it that I wrote but didn't post.

I don't know what's such a big deal about character death. It can be done. If you can pull it off, then all the better, since it's a very powerful dramatic element. Overuse of it and misuse can, of course, be blamed for the hate it often gets.
I for one generally avoid it as I can't write the death of a dear friend well. I do try my best if I use it as a plot element, though.

Well, Konoka does have a few questions at least, according to this excerpt.
“What is it? You're annoying.” From the sound of things, Anise was in a bad mood. Right now, Konoka and Satsuki had moved to the lower library, where the scowling mage was once again exploring books.
“What do you think I need to have a heart of evil?”
A pause. Anise looked Konoka over. “Looking less generic, for one thing.”
“Eh?” Konoka blinked.
“Without your tail and horns, you look terribly generic.” Anise asserted. “You need to stand out before you become evil. Heck, even your beauty is generic!”
“That's not nice!” Konoka complained. Satsuki, in the meantime, wondered how beauty could be generic.
“Don't pay her any mind, she's just mad because she missed the prince yesterday!” Konoka and Satsuki heard Lucas call out, somewhere further in the library.
“Shut up, you!” Anise shot back. In a puff of pink smoke, she became a cat, and immediately rushed off to the back of the library to confront Lucas. Moments later, bangs, crashes, magical explosions, and the yowls of an angry cat were heard, proving Lucas right.
Konoka blinked. “...well...” She did keep that in mind.
Considering that she had been out for so many chapters, T'ifr was not expecting to be asked about much anything, and remained speechless. Concerned, Satsuki asked, “Is that worrisome?”
The huge demon shook her head. “Not at all. It's simply... unexpected that you would approach someone like me for such a thing.”
Konoka thought about it. Just because she had been drawn to her from Kyoto didn't mean she had been evil. As a matter of fact, recalling something, the multitude of demons had basically agreed with Chigusa that her friends were not to be killed that night. Still, thinking back to Chigusa, she shivered.
“If it's fear and respect you want, you'll need an appropriate look,” T'ifr said, bowing down and looking over at Konoka. “You can certainly command respect, from what I've seen of you, but you look too young.”
“Too young?” Konoka blinked. Another thought passed. “But I can't help that! I haven't been a demon for very long!”
Some laughter cut through the conversation. “I believe the correct term she is looking for is 'childish'.”
Konoka felt the tiny hairs on her neck tingle in a way she could only describe as “spider senses”. Fitting, because a moment later, she felt webbing encircle her, binding her arms behind her. Konoka was lifted into the air with a terrified squeak, much to the amusement of the woman responsible.
“Ooh, the way you squeal like that is so cute! It's a pity that you and the cook are definitely not dating, or I'd take you myself,” Konoka looked down to see the cheery spider woman Yui. Decked in what she could consider a old-style school girl outfit, her abductor looked at her brightly.
“Please do not insinuate our relationship in sarcastic terms,” Satsuki said to the spidery senator, her voice oddly like poisoned honey. “Konoka-san and I are not like that.”
Yui gasped dramatically. “You aren't? What a shame! You two are together and saving each other more often than not. Well then, I suppose you don't mind if I take her on a date then?”
As Konoka finally managed to break free of the bindings thanks to her tail, she nearly crashed on the floor from shock. “W-what?! Date?!” She shakily recovered. “I'm not sure...” Konoka murmured, wary of such things not only because of the late Setsuna, but if her quiet look to her ministra was of any note, the present Satsuki as well.
“It's all up to Konoka-san,” Satsuki said coolly. Only the faintest of blushes gave any indication Yui's invitation had any effect.
Seeing Konoka hesitate, Yui switched her strategy. “Hmmm, why not go for an evil makeover? It'll get you one step closer to a heart of evil.”
That, however got Konoka's interest. She always liked shopping for clothes, at least. “Now that I can get behind—I haven't gone shopping in forever!”
“I at least want to see this,” Satsuki said resolutely.
“I knew you'd see things my way~!” Yui chirped, clapping. Almost immediately, she commanded, “T'ifr, we're going to Rosen Queen Co. Department Store. The small store here won't cut it!”
A deep and understanding nod came from the large demon. “As you wish,” The moment she completed her graceful bow, she whipped up one fierce fist and punched a spatial rift open between the dimensional gate's shell, activating it. As she withdrew her fist, T'ifr spoke. “The pathway is open.”
Konoka still wondered how she did it.

I would like to point out that I feel flattered. And that the monster comment is funny considering my avatar is kind of an Eldritch Abomination.
Adell can punch so hard he creates a black hole on someone's stomach. A black hole that then explodes. What's so weird about punching a dimensional gate open when compared to that?

That's why I said Konoka wondered. Other than getting Meteor'd, which she's likely seen in traditional JRPGS, Konoka hasn't yet seen most of the more ridiculous attacks Disgaea characters have been capable of.

Also, I wonder how she'd react to the power some of the mightier overlords have...
Anyone from Laharl upwards can blow up planets with little to no effort. (Overlord's Wrath, which is far from Laharl's most powerful attack, can blow the planet below your feet. And he's far from the most powerful overlord out there).
And of course, the finisher for 5.
Negi was all too happy to oblige. Apparently, the princess lacked a way to illuminate some of the darker corridors.
Lux came in handy, although keeping a sustained light on the tip of his finger was kind of a chore. He could use the practice with his more basic spells, anyway. He flooded more power into the spell, because everyone knows that the Tim Taylor method is the way to go. If it doesn't work, then just add more power. If it works, then add more power anyway.
After working with Hakase, that sort of becomes second nature.
“Mr. Negi,” the formality was expected, as they were once again in public, though no one was around “do you intend to give a performance in the exhibition tomorrow?”
“To be honest... No.” Negi said, more than a bit hesitant. “My more impressive spells would be too damaging to use so freely.” He mentioned, scratching his chin.
“A mage with the ability to emit light from the tip of his finger without using fire is a rare sight. A familiar doing so is even rarer.” Henrietta commented.
“I wouldn't want to have Master mocked by my inability to impress anyone with mundane abilities, Your Highness. I have firsthand knowledge of some of the more impressive acts that will be put on stage.” Negi said, somewhat more calm. “Nor would I want her to get in trouble for the destruction that I could possibly cause.”
Henrietta smiled. “Maybe you can show us your abilities in private, some other time?” She commented. “I am sure Louise Françoise would be delighted to attend such a show.”
It was kind of funny. “I think I have heard a similar proposition before, Your Highness. Although I don't think Miss Zerbst was talking about the same skills...”
It wasn't long before they settled into comfortable silence for the rest of the trip. “Freedom is one of the greatest treasures of life.” Maybe she felt at ease. Maybe she felt she had found a similar soul. Maybe she just missed him so much that simply having someone nearby who understood her was enough.
“Yet, even lives like ours have their rewards and treasures. For me, just seeing them smile is enough.”
The comfortable silence had given way to a deeper understanding. The only sound in the entirety of the academy was the clicking of her heels and his own muffled steps. The finger he was using as a flashlight being the only thing that was truly visible in the darkness.
“Please, take care of Louise Françoise.”
He smiled, and she smiled back. A simple, unspoken promise.
He bowed and allowed the princess to retreat to her bedroom. Once alone, he walked through a gallery and stopped to set his sight on the two moons illuminating the starry night sky. Phobos and Deimos stared at him from the sky once more, and he found himself wondering if he'd ever be back.
Of course, he smiled and waved the vision of the martian moons away.
Because when a man keeps walking forward with his head held high, the world smiles on him.
“Hello, Miss Tabitha. Are you enjoying your walk?” catching a spy red handed is not difficult when that spy allows herself to be caught.
She didn't have much to say. He didn't, either. They just spent the night staring at the distant astral bodies.

We'll see what she does when she picks up on Rozalin's true power. I mean, she's already afraid of Priere, though that has more to do with Priere's harassment than her power levels. Poor Konoka is already comparable, she just has no motivation to train it and wants even less to do with it.

Then again, Priere is pretty damn powerful, and she's one of the few Overlords that became so through pure asskickery. She scares the crap out of Adell, who admits that when he defeats her, she was toying with them.
Both she and Seedle started out as humans. Seedle died and ended up a low level demon in the underworld. He kicked so much ass they made him head honcho. Priere went to the dark world and killed so many overlords she eventually became a demon.
Now, one of Overlord Zenon's basic skills involves causing the Third Impact on a whim with near to no limit on how many times she can do it.

Ah, and that's a nice juxtaposition isn't it? All those ridiculous powers and such, and it's KONOKA who everyone's afraid of because of END OF THE WORLD and all that.
Though when I reveal Madeen later on and why Imamiah hates people within the next couple of chapters, you might see how that works.
