Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I actually found that slightly amusing. Slightly.
WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDS.
Seriously, it looks like the entire thing is written in present tense. Why? I tried reading it, gave up after the first page, largely because of the tense, but also because the dialogue/writing wasn't impressing me and I had Arséne Lupin stories to read instead.
Yeah, not gonna read that. If you want to convince me to read prose from a laptop screen, you better bring out something quite amazing.
I read it all. It was basically a huge in-the-dark hybrid of obstacle course, paintball, and gaming hubs. And Ethan lost to that one girl who kept breaking his "reward policy" system.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Thanks for reading it so that we don't have to.
Eh. Somebody's gotta. I just happen to have spare time, and have an iron gut when it comes to bad literature. ^^;
I really would've loved to know how on earth Lucas could've afforded to customize the whole locale (pretty sure that local game stores wouldn't be able to have that kind of budget for special events like that), or even where the place was. Having several rooms full of paint hazards just seems like brutal overkill.

Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987The church of gaming probably got a lot of donations.
Oi. CAD has officially Jumped the Shark if it's resorting to fanfic level drivel of prose to convey 48 pages of teeeeext.
I have no problem with the tournament being a prose story, but if you're going to do that for christ's sake don't set up the event in the comic. Have it off on it's own.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. You're implying it hasn't jumped the shark before. It's just that writing prose half the size of The Great Gatsby while having nothing actually happen has driven you off the edge.
I would also like to point out that Penny Arcade did a square-dancing arc in six comics, and Paint the Line in seven. Buckley needs a month of comics just to provide background information.
Hmm. Quite dark, but graphically quite good.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Apparently, the forums are packed with fans who don't know what the fuck is going on and just want to return to wacky Ethan testicle jokes.
Have I mentioned I hate CAD's fanbase with the white-hot intensity of ten thousand suns?
this reminds me a little bit of Agatha's Dingbots, only creepier.
A bit of Farscape's DRDs, too.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Wow. Normally, I would congratulate Buckley. But here, he just gave us three comics which didn't tell us what the fuck was happening.
I'm all for variation, but he could at least have told us what this was supposed to be.
I guess this isn't the last page yet.
Seconded.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Now that's just uncalled for. If this was any other author, you'd be fawning over this new arc and wondering where it's going. You have to be looking for an excuse before you start complaining about In Medias Res.

To be fair, most webcomic authors give some kind of heads-up when they're starting something new/out of the ordinary for the comic.
Readers of CAD (and a bunch of other gaming comics) are expected to be used to it, due to the high number of strips not about the main cast.
As such, it's not supposed to be surprising.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."CAD randomly does multicomic storylines with no prior warning? When was the last one?
Multicomic, not really. I didn't get that was your point.
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Well, that was mine and Torquey's main point. Media res is great and all, but he's not even bothered to say anything about it on the blog/main page. Most webcomic writers will at least say, "Hey guys, trying something different here!" or somesuch.

Look, it's not such a big deviation from his usual one-shots. He doesn't really need to make a big announcement about it.
Eh, logical conclusion from a long-established running gag. I don't see what the big deal is.
