According to the kickstarter page itself, that is the case.
And someone actually pledged in excess of 10K.

I have a message from another time...If nothing, this should prove that there will be buyers for any game they make.
Notch offers $13 million to fund Psychonauts 2
"As soon as I mentioned the amount of money he said, Yeah, I can do that."
[...]
"He said he had no idea it would get picked up like this. He said, 'Sorry for putting you on the spot, I didn't realize it would go so big.'
"I feel like I was being proposed to on the jumbotron at the baseball game."

You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person.Chance for a sequel rising? Chance for a sequel rising.
Sweet.
#IceBearForPresidentHoly shit, Notch for the win.

Video Games we can believe in.
You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person.I get that this is probably less of a gift and more like an investment of sorts, but I'm still most surprised by the fact that Notch got this kind of cash just, like, lying around.
also, it's Top Notch

Well of course he has loadsa money. Why would he spend it on fancy cars or a cool mansion when he can just build them in Minecraft?

A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail.: I don't know why, but that mental image is hilarious. I can just imagine it now, a Minecraft mansion on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous..."
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaAnd here's the room where I dispose of the creep-" *KABOOM*
A good writer puts in a lot of details in there story. But a great one gets a story from a single detail. He's not ponying up $13M for Psychnoauts 2, and he's begging people to stop putting words in his mouth.
Jonah FalconLets not get too crazy about this, i mean i would love to see a psyhonauts 2 game. But if we keep hyping it up we might get let down by the finished product. plus double fine is working on another project at the moment so we probably wouldn't see the game until 2014, y'know so its perfect.
Yeah! i'm gonna get stuff done today!Well, Double Fine is kinda busy right now what with their resoundingly successful kickstarter campaign for Double Fine Adventure.
Also, he didn't say he's not going to fund/help fund Psychonauts 2. He said its not happening right this moment and not to get our hopes up too much. Given the costs of making games now, I imagine it would take more than Notch's 13M anyway, so we shouldn't be hyping ourselves up for some kind of publisherless super game anyway.
Except with Double Fine Adventure.
That's happening.
It will be glorious.

No, Notch said that it was $13M - but that's too much even for him.
He said there are other "interested investors".
I just don't know why Double Fine wouldn't put Psychonauts 2 on Kickstarter :D
Jonah FalconUhh... because Psychonauts 2 was projected to cost more than thirty times as much as Adventure? (And Adventure has only raised four and a half times as much as was the goal)
Meaningless. You tell people, "Send us money, and not only will you get a discount from the game, you get to help beta test it, and we need this much money for it". Are you saying people won't send money?
It's called VOTING WITH YOUR WALLET.
Jonah FalconPeople would definitely send money, but I highly doubt they'd send enough.
They don't NEED to. If the project gets, say, $3M invested from users, companies take notice and help out.
Jonah FalconNo. That is the worst thing.
The moment a publisher takes notice they start forcing their own demands.
The great thing about kickstarter is the lack of publisher intervention. That devs have full creative control even if the budget is quite minimal.
This recent announcement makes me kinda depressed. I mean I know there's more hope than before the whole Notch situation but still...
You are not alone, and you are not strange. You are you, and everyone has damage. Be the better person.I don't think you need to be pessimistic. Just patient. They could always just do a lower-budget project, maybe like an episodic thing. Or simply a less fancy game.
DumboUpdate: Notch still won't help fund Psychonauts 2. Despite $101M burning a hole in his pocket.
Jonah Falcon
According to Kotaku, said kickstarter has raised over a million dollars in a single day.
