A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

"That...wasn't me. This is my TV. I have full control over it, see?" Zeta said confidently. Then he snapped his fingers and all of the screens changed to a single video, making it fairly large. It played something, with music that would be very familiar.

Naoto's eyes widened at the video, now seeing what must be her world to other worlds. "that challenge.....that was you?" She asked, trying to keep her voice steady. Zeta just grinned and nodded his head.

Rey stared a moment, then turned his head slightly, lowering his gaze, voice a bit low. "That was you."

"Yep, that was me. Pretty fun challenge if I do say so myself." Zeta says.

"Zeta-san, you are treading on dangerous grounds..." Kimimaro said, nervously eyeing Rey.

"You... what purpose was there in damaging all those psyches?"

"No. No. I'm...I'm just gonna...no." Rey turned, starting to walk out.

Zeta just shrugged. "It was a spur of the moment type thing. I was getting yelled at for not doing a challenge, as usual and got tired of it. I saw Naoto and though that it would be interesting." He said honestly.

"You just thought it would be FUN, is that it??"

Lux walked up beside Rey, with a worried expression and a hand on his arm. "This one is non-hostile, what happened was in the past and Zeta was pressured into it. We probably would have been put through something just as bad, only at the hands of one far more malicious. The greatest victories are those that you achieve while avoiding the fight entirely. Leave it be?"

Zeta shrugged again. "well yeah." He replied simply.

"Lux is right."

"Don't let your emotions master you, Rey. Think."

Rey swirled around to Zeta, gritting his teeth. "I...you..."

"Rey...."

Rey was clenching his fists, almost looking as though he might be shivering. It was apparent he was still quite angry...but after a moment, his tension practically deflated, and he almost sagged where he stood. When he spoke, his voice was exhausted and monotone.

"Is this why I was picked?"

"Picked? I'm not the Nomad that picked you, you're better off asking someone else." Zeta says.

The dark cloud from before begins to enter the doorway into Zeta's chamber. A few of the lines around the door fade out, before fading back in in a    blood red    colour.

"No! Damnit, I want to know why!" Rey shook his head, practically flinging back the visor of his helmet. "Why did anyone bring me here?? Why?? I didn't come here with any magic powers, or superstrength, or anything! I'm nothing special! I'm ordinary, even back home I'm ordinary, just a well-known ordinary! Compared to the people you have me here with, I'm NOTHING! There was no reason for me to wind up here! There's no reason for me to been put in this situation, to have to be doing this right now! I've been through hell that I'll never be able to live down...I've been given terrible powers that I've learned to manipulate for the greater good, I've been introduced to people who I actually love and can care about and can count on, just so that one way or another they're gonna be ripped away from me..."

Rey's breath was starting to hitch, and if anyone were to look, it would be apparent his eyes were moist, and tears beginning to flow. "I've been torn away from my wife, and my children, my beautiful little children, yet given the only real friends I've ever had in my entire life, the only friends who got to know...got to know Oscar...got to know me as an actual person rather than the being on top of the pedestal...and you're going to be involved in my losing them one way or another...and it was all for nothing, for no reason except your silly little games, and goddamnit...I want some answers!"

"Rey is right."

Link touched his friend lightly on the shoulder, and raised his head to look at Zeta directly.

"We are not your playthings. We are people - we have minds of our own...."

"And we demand answers. Why?"

"You have disrupted our lives, snatched us from death - just so we can power one of your weapons?"

"Is that all?"

The lines in Zeta's chamber did not turn red or anything. They stayed purple. Zeta shrugged his shoulders and said "I ain't got the answer you are looking for. It is interesting to see how you have changed from being a powerless human though."

Link's hand tightened around his sword hilt.

"Stop being so nonchalant, dammit."

Zeta chuckled a bit and just smiled at Link. "problem, Hero of Time?" He asked jokingly.

The dark cloud continued down the hallway, changing more of the lines to a    blood red    colour. And then it spoke.

   "Zeta."   

The lines still didn't change color, not matter how hard Iota tried. "Whaaaat?" Zeta asked in a bored tone.

Rey stood still, hands still by his side, murmuring softly.

"You could have asked for help. If you needed something you could've gone to so many worlds and just asked...more would have helped than have turned you away...I just know it..."

"Yes."

"You've ruined his life. If - no, when - we get back to our homes, he'll be branded a freak. The people of his world aren't accustomed to these things! His family will be taken, his life destroyed..."

"And you treat it like an experiment?"

"Tell me what distinguishes you from a monster."
