A Game of Gods: A Multiversal Challenge

Rey shook his head, then shrugged, resuming the sort of odd rocking on his heels he'd been doing before. "I know who Blink is, maybe this kind of looked like her...or not. I don't know. I saw her. Maybe she flew off."

Jack cautiously approached the small vampire.

"Excuse me," he said, "but have you seen anyone up here?"

Flandre waved at Jack and looked back down at Rey. "I havn't seen anyone. Are you going to be okay Mr. Rey?" She asked.

"It seems the Void's effects on Rey have not yet abated" Kimimaro said from down below, loud enough to be heard by most present.

Slowly, Gordon sat up. The last thing he remembered was going up against those... things. Then a sharp crack on the head, and well, now he was here.

"Damn..." he muttered, rubbing his head. He must've been knocked out.

Blink hadn't yet pushed her memories of being a nomad back into her subconsciousness. It wouldn't really help... not now. The only thing that would really help would be removing them, everything that made her a nomad, powers, immortality, entirely.

But right now, she was looking for the Engineer.

She couldn't find the strange lifeform, not matter how hard she tried. Where had it gone? She'd brought it here fairly, there wasn't anything they could...

Blink froze. She'd found the Engineer.

Its body had been rent open, blood and innards spilled out. Each of its eyes had been gouged out as well. Every limb had been ripped free of its body. The corpse lay their, so horrifically shredded it was almost impossible to imagine it having been alive.

And what appeared to be a dark mist drifted away from the corpse and faded, coupled with only the faintest of laughs as Blink fell to her knees.

Jack frowned, putting a hand to his chin and considering the possibilities. Few of them were pleasant.

"Perhaps we are being watched," he mused, "though by who or what I am not sure. If it were hostile, surely we would have been attacked by now."

He jumped down from the roof of the bus.

"Before we depart, I will make a quick circle around the edge of this clearing. One other person should come with me, but more than two people might scare our watcher away. If they are friendly but shy, we must try and make contact."

Rey shook his head, and when he spoke, it was apparent he was no longer holding up his power. "I am FINE. Why do you keep asking if I'm not?" He looked back up at the sky. "Strange birds in this place."

"Blink-chan?" Kisame said, having noticed their wayward Nomad looking for something and followed her. "Are you o..." he nearly dropped Samehada. "...Shit. ...That bloody mess used to be our ticket out of here, didn't it?"

"I'll stand guard here" Kimimaro said simply.

Blink's eyes were fixed on the body.

"He was... he didn't do anything bad... he was just... I brought him here to help..."

The mist seemed to linger, not entirely far away. Blink hadn't noticed yet. She looked down, away from the corpse, and started to sob.

Gordon stood, and scanned the area around him for... well, really anybody.

Flandre shrugged and went back to watching the sky. She kind of missed the moon and the stars. Its been a while since shes seen them.

"Hold down Rey guys!"

"I don't need to be held down! I'm not DOING anything! If I were dangerous, wouldn't I be..." Rey's voice trailed off, as he turned, looking out towards the woods, going completely quiet as he stared out at them, then turned, resuming his thought. "...wouldn't I be doing something??"

Jack looked up, just in case Rey was not being metaphorical.

"Do not fear, Doctor, I do not think he is a danger to himself or anyone at this point. In fact, perhaps it would be best if he accompanied me in my circle, since he has seen this vision before."

"Let's just pray it works... And now how will I clean my hands?"

Kisame spotted the lingering mist. Samehada growled. He tapped Blink on the shoulder, and then, with his hand next to her head once she was looking at it, pointed in the direction of the mist.

"There's nothing on your hands, Doctor" Kimimaro said. "Perhaps the Void is affecting you, as well."

Rey chuckled slightly, going around to start to re-enter the bus, picking up the artifact as he went, catching sight of Gordon and greeting him warmly with, "Hi, John. We all float down here." He then proceeded towards the back of the bus, humming to himself.

Jack watched Rey leave with some apprehension.

"Someone should watch him at all times," he murmured. "And I concur, Doctor, I see nothing on your hands. Likely your mind has been invaded by this darkness."

His own glance upwards had almost been Jack's downfall, he had very quickly caught sight of the hole in the sky and looked down again. But that split second had been enough to convince him not to try it again.

"I still need someone to circle the clearing with me before we go."

"There's Dalek and Time Lord blood on me! The Dalek's came from Sec I presume but where is my wound..."

Gordon stared at Rey for a moment.

"What the fuck...? Rey? What the hell was that?" he asked.

Blink looked up at the mist... and screamed in sheer terror.

"No! Nononononononono!"

She scrambled backwards, as the mist began to coalesce into a solid figure.

"Go away!" she yelled at the manifesting figure. "Leave! I'll... I'll kill you! Leave! Leave or I'll kill you! I swear I'll kill you you!"

"Kill me?" the manifesting figure said, amused. "You couldn't kill me before..."

"Did we miss anyone?" Spriggan asked the others if anyone was left behind.

Sort of.

Kisame took a defensive stance, standing between Blink and the entity. Samehada was gripped in his hands, the creature that was his weapon beginning to wriggle beneath the bandages, growling at the entity like an angry guard dog. Mist could be seen faintly swirling around him.

Rey turned, grinning as though he were thinking of sharing a great joke. "Oh hey, Gordon!" He sat down, chuckling some. "There's a gorgeous thing in the sky...my wife and my kids I think were there. For some reason they left...I don't know." He rocked himself, practically giggling. "I don't think we'll all die this time. But I think we're gonna want to."

"... Jesus, Rey," Gordon said, taking a step toward the wrestler. "What the hell happened to you?"

He wasn't quite sure of what he'd was hearing. But it was clear Rey wasn't in a very good mental state.

Blink hugged herself and curled into a small ball. She couldn't look at him. She really, really couldn't.

The mist finished forming the figure. It was... strange. It was of solid blackness, like somebody had shaped a black hole into a person.

"You are no threat," said Quingenti, simply. "I am here to reawaken the music of Xi's agony."

He took a step forward.

"Nothing happened, I'm fine." He stood abruptly, setting down the artifact, starting towards Gordon. "You don't look so good though..."

"You'll not cause her any more harm or suffering, demon" Kisame spat out the last word. "Not while the Monster of the Hidden Mist stands guard over her. I've taken on Tailed Beasts and won."
