And if the theme park is consistent with his story for the sequels, which depicts a Pandora now run by humans who have appropriated native traditions and sell them to tourists while the actual residents are all absent, then I have little expectation for these films’ to improve.
Holy shit that really is something. Are there even walkaround blue people?

Where is Disney going to find nine foot tall people to paint blue? And if they’re not giants, then what’s even the point?

Are there even walkaround blue people?

No but oddly I wish there were because then it would at least show some Na’vi are involved in sharing their culture. But instead there are seemingly none in most of the park (just the animatronic in one of the rides) so the place feels eerily human-dominated for a place that’s “humans and Na’vi in harmony”. Especially in things like festival shows that one would think the residents would be the ones participating.

I get that Na’vi are supposed to be really big, but I doubt most tourists would complain a 6-7 foot actor with lifts isn’t 10 feet. Or say these are teenage Na’vi. tongue Or they’re sitting down all the time.

Even just 6 foot people on stilts would be great already.

Avatar is a great example on how critism good and bad just sorta blur into a mush.

The movie story is bad mostly because it recycle dance with wolves and other "outside enter group become the best ever while fighting a bunch of super evil humans" without so little to add it become tiring and cliche, which is probably why avatar have so little impact even if made like a bajillon dolars.

I will said the reason people side with Quardrich it probable a couple: there is the typical military hard nerd who just love the whole the aesthetic and hard men doing hard things, there is also that the movie feel somewhat contrive in how to beat them(Some fan were very silly and belive human will nuke pandora just because...but at that point people were not debating the movie, just their personal RTS really), but I will said the other reason....is just plain egith deadly words: nobody really manage to give a them for most human chararter in part because they feel cliché or boring so by the end they just tune out for the spectacle and the RDA provide that in spades.

I will said people like pandora and maybe the Na vi to some extent....they just dont like the story told with it, I will said is the same problem with jupiter asending, awsome visual, intersting worldbulding, bad story to tell it and if that happen them the other just drag.

There's a new trailer for an open world Avatar game on mobile, one of the handful upcoming video games for the franchise:

While this thread is back I feel like sharing this I listened to recently. Basically the video talks about how Cameron aimed for a soundtrack that sounded truly alien, but then ironically kept demanding it to be toned down to familiar tunes, thus negating the point for alien audio in the first place. I considered the soundtrack to Avatar to be very generic, so it’s interesting to see how it could’ve been far more unique at some point.

So Empire Magazine just revealed that Sigourney Weaver is in The Way of Water, but her role is a bit...out of left field.

Not sure if anyone will believe it, but apparently she's Kiri; Jake and Neytiri's teen daughter.

Uh...okay?

Guess that would be the ultimate Dawson Casting for a seventy-year-old woman to play a teenager.

I'm guessing it's some sort of reincarnation thing. It's still bit of an odd decision though.

[up][up] Weaver is 70?!? Holy moley...

Anyway, someone else is back!

He's bigger! He's bluer! He somehow cheated death by getting stabbed in the heart twice by Na'vi arrows! It's Colonel Quaritch!

Avatar: The Way of Water trailer brings us closer to a mighty heartbeat: "We cannot let you bring your war here."

Looks like it's time for Cameron's latest sci-fi nature documentary... oh wait, there's actual plot here too.

Seriously, he could just leave out the plot and make a really cool alien nature documentary, and I think people would still watch it.

Kind of a random thing to bring up, but the other day I saw some Avatar advertisement on a cereal box, and said advertisement was a barely dressed Na'vi family. I'm not one to go "But think of the kids!" but sure seems someone wants a kid or two to awake to tall blue cat people early. tongue

James Cameron apparently has plans for the sixth and seventh movies.

Look, I’m glad he’s got it all planned out, but maybe he should have waited to see if this film is successful before making that announcement.

The YouTube ads I'm getting are calling The Way of Water "the motion picture event of a generation".

Considering how it took a generation for it to come out, it isn't wrong.

I dearly want the marketing to be wrong. I don't want this movie to be a hit. The sheer arrogance on display from Cameron coupled with his long-chronicled history of being a fuckin' dick makes me double-down on such thoughts. Assholes don't deserve to be the most financially successful filmmakers ever.

I'm giving it my money opening night. I loved the first Avatar. People love to talk about how little it mattered, but I still recall most of the characters, the creatures, the songs, and goddamn it was a beautiful experience in 3D.

I long gave up on checking out 3D features, but I'm probably going to spend the extra cash for this one (last 3D movie I've seen was the third HTTYD movie, which I commited myself to see the entire trilogy in the format when the first movie came out).

[up][up] & [up] The Duality of Man.

I’m wondering why Jake and Neytiri’s eldest daughter is played by Sigourney Weaver. Is that meant to imply that Eywa can recycle the consciousness of the deceased, and she’s a sort of reincarnation of Grace? If so, what’s with the Na’vi played by Stephen Lang? He’s clearly older than a teenager, whereas Quaritch’s reincarnation should be slightly younger than Grace’s.

The Quaritch Navi is clearly an engineered Avatar, tho.

I think it'd be hilarious if the movie comes out and ends up doing... just okay. Like, it gets decent reviews and makes back its budget, but nothing that makes it either "the event of a generation" or one of the biggest bombs of all time.
