[up][up] That would be fun, and would fulfill another of my wishes for part IX: having an animal (plural in this case) stand user join the crew (Smooth Operators fulfills another one, the "multi-stand" like Harvest). If true, it could even lead to an interesting scenario, in which as a parallel to Giorno, Jodio ends up as a leader of a criminal group; but, instead of deposing of the leader of a previous one and assuming the position, Jodio and his crew create their own.

I don't think the attacker is a rock human. They shouldn't be able to fight underwater like that without drowning.

There's definitely something up with Usagi. Its just hard to tell if its malicious or not.

I think Usagi is genuine. Araki already played the "oh, is he gonna betray us -psyche!" card with the cat fight. And now that I think about it, we've NEVER had a member of the Squad sincerely turn traitor. Closest was in Part 3 with fake-Kakyoin and possessed-Polnareff, or Part 5 where Araki REALLY considered having Fugo turn traitor before changing his mind.

Even in Part 6, with Weather Report turning bad in Heavy Weather, he was still good, just edgy. He was still fighting Pucci and he still died passing on his Stand in an act of heroism.

[up][up]I wouldn't necessarily say Weather Report was still good when he got his memories back. He did fill a nurse's orifices with bubbling water and electrocuted two girls with his hands for no reason.

Yeah, but Anasui killed and dissected two people. Standards are low. Weather was still fighting on the good guy side, even if getting his memories back turned him into a bad person.

The protagonist crews in V and VI are probably the least moral. For good reason. Part V's crew were organized crime, and Part VI's crew were convicts.

Though arguably Part II's crew was the worst since it had a Nazi on it.

That was a superb chapter. Every person on the team had a moment to shine. We get to fully see the usage of Dragona pulling the wound with Smooth Operators that we saw from last chapter. Also a decent monologue near the end. Usagi reveals he's queer or fully queer supportive. Paco wants to recruit the enemy. And Jodio has the most action this chapter with the chapter ending on their active battle engagement. Even the villain gets the reveal that he didn't actually kill his pets.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. (people often say "broken" instead of "stopped", but that's always bugged me, as most types of breakage will never be right on such a regular schedule)

Looking at the events of the series, Stroheim is slightly less of an active member of the "team" than Speedwagon and his foundation. And fortunately the foundation also shows up in part 6, which brings me to this weird comparison:

Stroheim is more a part of his Jojo's "team" than Anasui is. Stroheim was introduced as an enemy, sure, but so were Kakyoin, Polnareff, and Okuyasu. He's not a consistent member like they are, but every time he shows up outside of his what I'll charitably describe as a "day job", he's working with the Speedwagon Foundation, or the team itself, to advance their goals. His involvement with the team most closely compares to Part 4 Rohan, except Rohan was a more major character.

Anasui, meanwhile, is introduced as a third party, and never (at least as far as Heavy Weather, I'm still working through the show) prioritizes the team's goals, except as a way to ingratiate himself to Jolyne. He doesn't actually coordinate with the team by choice until long after he's introduced, even when given the opportunity. His importance and involvement with the team is like "Yukako if the Part 4 gang beat Kira before he encountered Cinderella."

The Stardust Crusaders and Passione were really the closest to a traditional "team", especially when compared to other shows. I'm writing this post in the middle of writing a different post about ATLA, so the team structure in ATLA/ALOK is on my mind. Also, Power Rangers.

For the first 6 arcs, roles are like this:

  1. The core team: Jonathan and Zeppeli - student and mentor
    • Minor team members: Speedwagon (yeah, the order of him and Zeppeli surprised me too when I thought about it)
    • Allies: Tonpetty, Dire and Straights
  2. The core team: Joseph, Caesar, Lisa Lisa - students and mentor
    • Minor team members: Loggins and Messina (not just "allies", because they're more involved as lesser mentors)
    • Mission control: Speedwagon the person
    • Allies: Speedwagon Foundation
    • Separate character with aligning goals: Stroheim, leaning towards being an ally
  3. The core team: The Stardust Crusaders - two Jojos, two Jobros, and Polnareff
    • Minor team members: Iggy
    • Allies: Speedwagon Foundation
  4. The core team: Josuke, Okuyasu, Koichi - Three Bros, chillin in Morioh...
    • Minor team members: Jotaro
    • Allies: Shigekiyo, and a bunch of others
    • B plot protagonist with aligning goals: Rohan, Hayato
    • Satellite Character to a team member: Yukako
  5. The core team: Passione and Trish
    • Minor team members: Fugo (quits when the main story happens)
    • B plot protagonist with aligning goals: Polnareff, Risotto Nero
  6. The core team: Jolyne, Ermes, F.F., Emporio - prior to this post, I'd seen this arc as starring a three-girl band and Emporio as a minor ally, but I was way off, and I haven't even finished Heavy Weather yet)
    • Minor team members: Weather Report (pre-Heavy Weather, at least)
    • Mission control: Jotaro
    • Allies: Speedwagon Foundation
    • B plot protagonist with aligning goals: Weather Report (during Heavy Weather, as far as where I am now)
    • Satellite Character to a team member: Anasui

Thinking back on the events of Stone Ocean, I genuinely do think that, as the ending implied, Jolyne did actually have a thing for Anasui, even if it wasn't conveyed well. Even though she never reciprocates until Made In Heaven, Jolyne never seemed to be bothered with Anasui's Love Confessions, outside of the Yo-Yo Ma fight, but I can chalk that up to her trying to get him to pay attention to Yo-Yo Ma after her tongue was burnt through. I get the feeling that the only reason why Jolyne didn't immediately reciprocate was because her top priority wasn't romance like before she was arrested, but instead saving her father and stopping Pucci. And after what happened with Romeo, I feel as though Jolyne would probably be interested in a man who she knows is unabashedly attracted to her, but would fully trust to not throw her under the bus, which Anasui proved to her multiple times through his rescues.

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.

Such pros and cons

  • - Anasui is a murderer who murdered his ex for cheating on him
  • + He does genuinely love Jolyne
  • - its love at first sight
  • + but it is love
  • - he asked at the worst possible time
  • + they were literally going to die in less than a split second, so there was no better time to ask as this was the first time Anasui had ever met Jotaro
  • - Jotaro is perfectly right in telling him to focus the f-ck up, and his reply is hilarious
  • + Anasui is well aware that Jolyne would fall for him right away given the circumstances and sees it as his redemption arc
  • - Anasui's done some sketchy stuff since his introduction in his pining for Jolyne
  • + Jolyne doesn't seem to rebuff him later so it wasn't a hailmary
  • - he's still an unrepentant serial killer
  • + he literally let himself get killed to protect Jolyne and Jotaro

Even serial killers have girlfriends. Anasui's Stand was putting things inside of other things, not ripping people apart or making people piss blood.

tl,dr I want a post-Stone Ocean epilogue about Irene and Anakiss - apparently people with the same souls as Jolyne and Anasui but different circumstances are compatible enough to get married.

Anasui's got the second most rizz in the whole franchise. Right there with Speedwagon, fell so hard for the Joestar bloodline that their loyalty carried over into an alternate universe.

I don't think Anasui's a serial killer, right? He only killed two people, his cheating girlfriend and the guy she was cheating on him with. According to Wikipedia, the definition of a serial killer is someone who kills 3+ people with a significant period of time between them.

They'd met a day or days prior to all of that. And she definitely didn't care enough to include him in the breakout.

Many more characters have more actual charisma. Off the top of my head, Koichi, Kosaku!Kira, Yuya Fungami, Dio, Caesar...

Kenzo is definitely dead, due to everyone in the max security ward getting absorbed by the Green Baby but Anasui shouldn’t be counted for that. However, he did maim Guccio to such a degree Pucci doesn’t think about asking Guccio about the green baby like he wanted to for D and G. It’s heavily implied he dies after so that’s arguably countable as Anasui’s kill.

I believe they say D and G was the only survivor there when giving him medical help and then after the arc was over, when Jolyne plans her escape Emporio mentions Jolyne’s group being the only survivors.
