The movie is more up front about teh gei but the movie is...odd. To say the least.

The 08th MS team. I really can't stand giant robots, but the show treats them like tanks. And the Romeo and Juliet story just won me over when I watched it. Plus it's 12-13 episodes. In fact the titular Gundam nearly gets taken out by tanks

Recommend Ninku because its classic shonen with good animation and an eerie soundtrack.

Also Astro boy 2003 because it is an anime I can find little fault with and I am extremely picky in that regard.

So, does anyone know any good gangster/mafia/yakuza anime? I don't mean a gangster-in-name-only series (coughReborncough), but something with some honest-to-god organized crime?

Don't say Baccano!, because I've seen it about fifty thousand times. Same goes for Black Lagoon.

Gokusen ? (it's played for laughs, though.)

Darker Than Black might qualify, too.

And after that, I draw a blank.

Dammit, I've seen both (well read one and watched one, but same diff. I'd argue Dt B is more spy drama than gangster, though).

More suggestions :

  • Crying Freeman (it's been ages since I've watched it, so I have no idea how well it has aged)

  • Wikipedia mentions Gungrave, but I know absolutely nothing about it.

Anyone mind selecting something out of the "Watching" category for me to watch?

If you had bothered to look at the list, you would have known he's already watching it.

Well, maybe if you actually finished the series I'd stop hurling it...

In any case, as for series that are not in the "Watching" list, Infinite Ryvius is very good... it's also an angstfest, so don't pick it if you're not in the mood for that.

Well, seeing as you're giving it a straight up 10/10, I'd say to continue on with Haibane Renmei. For series not on the list, Natsume Yuujinchou's pretty damn adorable. It's also episodic, so you won't get lost if you go on a viewing hiatus.

^^ He said to select from the "Watching" section.

I've wondered about gangster series too- seems like there aren't a whole lot- I have some impression that yakuza are relatively frequent characters in yaoi, but that's not my thing.

On another note though, have you seen Samurai Champloo?

Oh, something from the Watching list?

I'd say finish Ouran High School Host Club.

Just Baccano.

Looking for a good mecha anime, preferentially without any links to high school shenanigans. I've seen:

  • Evangelion
  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
  • Gundam Wing

They were all pretty good, I think. Gundam Wing was a bit dumb sometimes but still good times.

Gunbuster is pretty awesome. It's by the same director is Eva and Gurren Lagann owes a lot to it, and it owes a lot to Gundam, so it's perfect!

Also, if you liked Gundam Wing, I'd suggest checking out the original Mobile Suit Gundam (probably the movie trilogy, but you can go with the series if you want).

^^^ See aforementioned post wherein I mentioned that I've probably watched Baccano more times than is legal.

^^ Real Robot or Super Robot? Because that matters like whoas

Super Robot: Getter Robo (OVAs), G Gundam, Giant Robo

Real Robot: Patlabor, The 08th MS Team, Macross Frontier

In Between: Turn A Gundam

Honestly, I'm not bothered by what sort of mecha. I just want likable characters, a solid plot and robots beating the everliving shit out of one-another.

I am an easily pleased man.

Also, thanks for the recommendations.

Actually could I get a recommendation too? I recently finished School Days (yeah kill me, I know it has Idiot Plot all over it), and I was wondering if someone could recommend me an anime similar to it.

I actually kinda liked it because of the dark tone it set as the story progressed and the very disturbing ending it had. Plus it wasn't an action/adventure/mystery story, rather it was (an absurd) modern day story.

Mirai Nikki if you want something less sexual, more supernatural, and much more Mind Screwy.

It's got an OVA coming, but for now there's only the Manga.

This isn't in response to anyone's actual request, but Gunjo deserves to be checked out.
