I actually didn't want new worlds in III. Use some of the previous ones from the past games as III should be about reaching a conclusion more rather than Sequel Hooking everything. The new world's were nice, but I rather they were saved for another game after the current plot was cleaned off. Start fresh in the new game.

The first world in III pretty much told the player how Disney was going to fit into the game's plot.

"Hey Herc, I have a case of Plot, can you help me recover?"

"No. Anyway, wanna reenact my movie?"

"OK sure."

I mean, that's mostly untrue?

Out of the 7 Disney Worlds in KHIII, 3 had fully original plots, and the other four had at least attempts to connect them to the larger storyline, clumsy as it may have been. Again, KHII is emphatically so much worse than KHIII when it comes to how much the Disney worlds matter to the overarching plot.

KHIII's problem is that it doesn't have all that much plot to begin with because half of it was sectioned off into a 3DS game that came out seven years prior.

They should have gone with a BBS style campaign. Play as three different characters with different plot goals and give them Disney worlds that tied into that plot.

Then have everything go to hell at the end as it did.

Honestly, I think that probably would not have fixed the problem? I'm not trying to be snarky, but I think that would have just resulted in three storylines where nothing moved forward until they got to the end.

Unless one of the playable characters is Even/Vexen or Isa/Saix, because they have the most dynamic stuff going on in KHIII.

Eh, true, probably would have been a foregone conclusion in the end, but it would have been a bit better than "Sora walks around while plot happens behind the scenes."

IV should have temp playable Donald and Goofy. The two were playable in 358/2 Days so there's precedent. Would be cool to be able to freely switch between them like in Final Fantasy XIII-2 and later SE games.

Not really? II's world selection was based on fitting the themes of self-worth and identity to reinforce Roxas's plot and the game's overall conceit.

I thought the Tangled world was pretty good. In the upper tier of the "do the movie again" worlds because it does the work to make it feel like our heroes bond with the characters.

Well, frequently-linked KH You Tuber Regular Pay did a couple of videos on just that:

Dunno if everyone here agrees with everything argued in these, but at the very least is a fairly comprehensive look at the “big five” games (the numbered titles, BBS, and DDD, i.e. the ones that include new Disney worlds and most closely fit the traditional KH structure).

Pat is, for the record, definitely favors I and III over II in this regard (and most others, for that matter).

I'm not even sure how a Kingdom Hearts movie would work unless you focus entirely on the OC's, like Back Cover did.

I mean, my biggest worry is that they're gonna take it away from Nomura and his writers and turn it into some Multiversus/Space Jam-level corporate schlock, complete with quippy Marvel dialogue and self-aware "humour". Like that stupid Disney Princess-scene from Wreck-It Ralph 2, except stretched to over 2 hours.

I think the smart thing to do would be to use the live action remakes and combine them into a multiverse. Like at the end of Mufasa: The Lion King, Simba awakes, dazed and injured, in Traverse Town.

Yeah? I mean, say what you want about Kingdom Hearts' writing - it's certainly not perfect - but you never get the idea that it's talking down to the IP it's based on or embarrassed by it. Kingdom Heart, for all its faults, is extremely sincere and emotionally earnest, especially when it comes to its original material. What I'm describing is your typical corporate crossover, complete with all the meta-humour, bathos and bad quips those movies mostly consist of.

My fear was that Nomura was going fo force his Versus XIII plans into Kingdom Hearts to get back at Square for taking him off the game and turning it into FFXV.

I honestly think the most we'll see from that is the new Traverse Town/Twilight Town equivalent will be focused on original flavor Noctis/Yozora.
