That scene was my main basis for saying that MX seems to be able to clone his Heart. Like, it certainly didn't look like he pulled a version of himself from the past to shoot at Sora there, it looked more like a metaphysical copy-paste.

Hell if I know what was up the other Org members in that scene though. I suspect that, due to the fact that they all have identical builds, the ones that don't do anything in that scene are the Mysterious Adversaries rather than the proper Org members, but I can't communicate that into anything that explains why they could only be there for like, a minute.

So they take Sora back to Mysterious Tower. Riku's like, "He's been out like this for a while now. What can we do for him?"

Yen Sid considers the question. The point of sending Riku and Sora to the Sleeping Worlds was to 1) awaken those worlds by unlocking the Sleeping Keyholes and 2) learn the Power of Waking by doing so.

Riku didn't do shit for point 1, but he did pretend to unlock the Keyholes. Yen Sid supposes that this might have still given him the Character Development he was meant to undergo. It's possible that simply going through the motions of unlocking the Sleeping Keyholes gave him the Power of Waking!

Mickey's alarmed by the idea because Sora's Heart is trapped in the deepest Darkness. If Riku uses the Power of Waking, he might get trapped down there himself, FORESHADOWING FORESHADOWING.

Riku descends into the Darkness where he's attacked by Ventus's armor. Okay, this makes a bit of sense. When we last saw Sora's Heart, Ventus was cloaking him in his Keyblade Armor to protect him from the encroaching Darkness. Thus, that's not Ven that he's fighting; it's Sora, consumed by Darkness even through the Armor.

Sure enough, Riku defeats the Armor and it breaks, revealing Sora underneath. OH, I GET IT. The Armor protected Sora's Heart. The Darkness could only gather on the outside of it; Sora himself is pristine underneath. The Darkness still was able to puppet him around and fight Riku, but Ven saved Sora's Heart from true corruption.

Man, it's good to have a team of bros inside your Heart.

From there, Riku opens Sora's Sleeping Keyhole and pushes deeper into him. He finds a recreation of Destiny Islands in Sora's Heart, where Roxas and Ventus are waiting to interrogate him about the value of friendship and shit.

Then he finds Sora, but it's actually Xion. She asks him, "Riku, what do you wish?" And Riku, to my surprise, does not answer, "To not have to answer all these stupid questions and just find Sora already." But he answers the question and then he finds....

Sora! Real Ansem! MOTHERF*CKER.

This is the thing that Ansem nonconsensually put inside Sora while Namine was piecing his brain back together.

Ansem explains that he wanted to atone for the mistakes of his past. He wanted to do something that's not terrible for once in his life. So he performed non-consensual invasive brain surgery to implant a copy of his personality and his research notes inside an unknowing subject and then never told anyone about it.

Ansem is really bad at not being terrible, you guys. So, so bad.

Ansem explains that Sora is a unique and special snowflake because he managed to come back from being a Heartless of his own volition, while his Nobody was still out there roaming about.

From that, he supposes that Sora might actually be able to pull people back from oblivion. Note that he's not talking about the Power of Waking here. He's talking about straight-up reconstructing Roxas and Xion in the same way that Sora was himself able to be reconstructed from nothing but a Heart, without needing his body.

From there, Riku explains that he's here to save Sora and Ansem's like, "Well, that's pointless. You already did that. He's been free since you defeated Ven's Armor."

Riku gasps. "What?! You mean...."

"Yes, Riku," Ansem replies. "We are both unwelcome intruders who thrust ourselves upon Sora's psyche for no good reason. You can't tattle on me now!"

So Riku's like, "SHIT!" and jams ALT+F4 as quick as he can, leaving the creepy old man to continue creepy old manning around Sora's mind. For the next few weeks, he will wrestle with the question of how to tell Sora that Ansem's creeping around his brain without revealing that he, too, was creeping around Sora's brain.

He settles on an anonymous Post-It note that Sora will read but have absolutely no idea who it's from or what it's supposed to mean. For the next three days, Sora will think he's being stalked. But then he'll get distracted by a ham sandwich and no one will ever speak of it again.

So Yen Sid gets everyone together and is like, "Alright, this Mark of Mastery thing. Sora, you got assed out in the final confrontation and Riku saved you. Therefore, I choose Riku to be the Keyblade Master." Wait, what? This was a competitiong?! Why was this a competition?! You never said anything about a competition, you ass-munching beard-elemental!

Sora didn't fail, Riku just passed harder than Sora did and that means he wins and Sora loses. WHY?! Yen Sid's like, "I name Riku our True Keyblade Master" like Sora and Mickey are just chopped liver or some shit. Eat a dick, you useless old goat!

ARGLEBLARGHLE I AM RAGE AND FURY

Like. I knew Riku passed and Sora failed, but I didn't realize Sora failed because Riku passed. That is some stupid-ass shit right there.

So Riku passes and Sora's cool with it 'cause he's a good friend and also who the f*ck cares what Yen Sid thinks anyway. It's not like Sora needed his approval when we started all this. This was, after all, all for Riku's benefit so that he could gain his confidence. Sora never really cared about the Mark of Mastery.

Then Lea's like, "Sorry I f*cked up with my own Keyblade," and reveals Flame Liberator to everyone's shock. He's had it since Yen Sid sent him off to train in the Tutorial Dimension, but he wasn't able to manifest it in the fight with the Norts. Needs more formal training. Or possibly less formal training, since Yen Sid's training sucks so hard.

Eraqus, the Sorcerer is not.

Sora goes back to Traverse Town to play with the Dream Eaters now that he knows how to enter Sleeping Worlds. Despite being awoken (twice!), Traverse Town is still sleeping because f*ck you. It's a Room of Requirement that is not presently required; it'll wake up its own ass up when it's damned well needed for something. That's how it works.

Donald and Goofy briefly converse about their own uselessness.

Yen Sid drops some more lore on Mickey. As he explains, the Pure Hearts of the Princesses of Heart are actually the source of all Light in the Realm of Light. Since Kingdom Hearts is locked away, those Pure Light Hearts are where the Light comes from now.

I don't totally understand this metaphysic but I think the Princesses of Heart actually are the seven Light fragments that emerged from the X-blade when it was destroyed. Like, the seven Pure Lights might be passed on from person to person or something, which is why KHIII has new Princesses of Heart?

Yen Sid explains that if those seven Hearts are consumed by Darkness then, in turn, all Light in the World will be consumed. Thus, all worlds everywhere will be consumed. At all costs, the seven Pure Lights must be protected.

Xehanort was already targeting them when he first made his plan to forge the X-blade. Yen Sid emphasizes that we desperately need to prove him with seven other Lights to use in his plan, because f*cking with the source of all Light in the myriad worlds would have drastic and horrible consequences.

To that end, Riku brings Kairi to be the seventh Keyblade Wielder and round out their team. Shock, awe, and the end.

Sometimes I wonder if the plot of KHUX would benefit more if it were more of a spinoff rather than being connected to the main plot? The story is "complicated" enough without KHUX and now with this prequel, we now have even more headaches.

Too bad the plot decided that wasn't as important as her role of a Damsel in Distress...when it cares about her at all.

O.K.

Who's supposed to be the seven Wielders of Light by the time of the Second Keyblade War?

Sora, Riku, the King, Roxas, Xion, Axel, Kairi...and Ventus? And Aqua? And Terra?

Are Eraqus's students supposed to be part of the whole "Seven Wielders of Light to 13 Seekers of Darkness"?

I mean, Terra did basically nothing nothing to contribute to the Light side of the battle. Axel and Kairi got swapped out for Roxas and Xion, is what happened.

I'm more wondering how on earth Xion managed to count as a darkness, personally. Just seems like that whole Saix/Xion/Axel/Kairi/Roxas shuffle should've fucked up Xehanort's numbers, which probably should've made a difference, since he seemed to need to pretty precise light to dark ratio to made things work.

Ultimania mysteries!

— The Brown Robed Fgure, a Heartless born from that experiment, says “This world has been connected.” While in KH 1 that meant that the island was connected to the darkness, in this title does it signify that Xehanort and co. have connected to the dream world?

Nomura: It means both of those things. In that scene, the Brown Robed Figure becomes a “portal” himself as a result of contact with Sora and co., making it possible for the other Xehanorts to intervene within the dreams.

When time-traveling Hobonort connected with Sora, he effectively became a conduit for the Norts to enter Sora's dreams.

— In the latter half of The World That Never Was, despite returning to the real world, why do Sora and co. stay in that form and why do Dream Eaters appear etc?

Nomura: Sora and co.’s form is due to Yen Sid’s magic, so the way it works is that they can’t turn back until they return to the Mysterious Tower, and Dream Eaters were appearing because Sora was still asleep. Also, ever since Organisation XIII was defeated in KH 2, the The World That Never Was’s existence as a world has become uncertain. In the first place, the worlds in the rift between darkness and light have different rules than other worlds. The Mysterious Tower isn’t always standing in a fixed place. Traverse Town too reforms its shape every time, which is why the version that appears in this title is clearly different than the version in KH 1.

Worlds in the Realm Between exist in a sort of fluctuating state. They don't follow the same basic rules of physics, causality, basic structure, etc. that Realm of Light worlds have. They can move around through space and can even reconfigure themselves to look totally different based on certain criteria. They're fluid, not solid like Realm of Light worlds.

Again, my mind goes to Twilight Town.

— Did King Mickey’s time magic not work properly on Young Xehanort because Young Xehanort has the power to control time?

Nomura: Not Young Xehanort’s but rather Master Xehanort’s power. King Mickey was surprised at the time, seeing his Keyblade and noticing he harboured the power of Master Xehanort. That Keyblade was designed as the one Master Xehanort used in KHBBS combined with an hourglass, you see.

Nailed it! Baby Nort resisted Stopza because he was channeling the true Xehanort at the time.

—Were the 13 Seekers of Darkness, who were meant to be in different times, gathered by transcending time with magic?

Nomura: Just as it says in the story, to transcend time one must ‘first’ discard their form. As a result of the actions of the Brown Robed Figure, they all were in a state where they had gained the power to transcend time. The Brown Robed Figure explains the facts. The thirteen were summoned at the same time, this time thanks to Young Xehanort who borrowed that power. However, apart from Young Xehanort, that does not mean that all the members transcended time.

The Organization members were gathered by "summoning" them through time.

— In other words, Ansem and Xemnas were, at the same time, existing in the time and space of KH 3 D as well as having returned to their true human form after being destroyed?

Nomura: Yes, it does turn out that way. However, as I said before, ‘The World That Never Was’, where the thirteen all met, is a special space. The mechanics behind how they were all able to exist at the same time is a mystery. From KH 1 on, Ansem has returned no matter how many times he has been defeated, perhaps the same sort of thing happened.

The reason the Organization members were able to be present for this meeting is because the laws of metaphysics are wonky in Realm Between worlds. The summoning had to happen in TWTNW in order to take advantage of the fact that physics just work differently in places like this or Castle Oblivion or ONE ASSUMES Twilight Town.

—Why did Lea visit Disney Castle when he should have been looking for his friend?

Nomura: To search for his friend he needed the power to move between worlds, and there is no way to do that other than become a Keyblade Wielder. At the time, wanting to be made a Keyblade Wielder, Lea saw a message recorded by Ansem the Wise in the past and, knowing it was dangerous, used the Corridors of Darkness once more to go talk with King Mickey and the others. That’s why after Maleficent left he was asking at the Mysterious Tower.

Lea's personal motive for becoming a Keyblade Wielder was so that he could use the Keyblade Wielders' ability to move from world to world to search for Isa and/or Subject X, without having to brave the Dark Corridors every time.

— It was declared from Ansem the Wise’s own mouth that everything can grow a heart.

Nomura: Yes it was, I thought I’d leave it clear in this title.

EVERYTHING. CAN GROW. A HEART. PERIOD.

Critical is out. You get aerial recovery at the start an an ability called critical converter which means the green indicators no longer appear so no attraction flow if you don't want it outaide of certain battles like the coaster ones

So Critical Mode DLC for KH 3 is now out. I don't own the game so I'm not 100% sure of the significance of all these things, but I thought I'd post some general notes/impressions for everyone else's convenience.

- Apparently you start out with all abilities related to mobility of any kind, and there's 3 new abilities you start with:

Critical Counter (reprisals do more damage if you time your block to the instant the enemy attacks instead of leading it)

Critical Converter (disables Attraction Flow, excluding story mandatory ones)

Critical Charge (Situation commands you earn from Keyblade combos charge faster if you're out of MP)

-We have a full list of abilities you start the game with but idk how to the markup so it doesn't make my post overly long. You can find it here.

- You don't get any damage boosters. On lvl 1 crit keyblade upgrades will be your only source of damage increase.

-People are dying to the first few mob fights/tutorial boss lol. Apparently the first two shadows in the game two-shot you.
