I mean, they want hearts. Excluding Xemnas, about half or so of everybody in Organization XIII wants to be able to feel real emotions and not have to act as though they do because of muscle memory, Witcher style.

It's not a malevolent motivation. It's quite understandable.

It's the "sic the Heartless on innocent worlds so Sora can go destroy them and create a false Kingdom Hearts so they can get hearts" thing that's the problem.

T He saddest part of this is that they could have probably walked up to sora, told him they wanted to be friends but needed their hearts to do so, told Sora about the kingdom hearts project, and hlp him find heartless to kill without actually threatening people.

And. I'm quite sure Sora would have less than zero objections to helping them.

[up]He'd have negative objections. Helping people and beating up Heartless is all he ever does since he got the Keyblade and he seems to have no problem with it.

General Zod just wanted his civilization to return from literal extinction. Darth Vader wanted the galaxy to live in peace and security. Thanos wanted to combat overpopulation.

What makes someone a villain often isn't what they want, but how they go about trying to get it. Some villains want things that, themselves, malicious. But just as many villains want things that are entirely benign.

But at the end of the day, even if all you wanted was a sandwich, if your method of getting your sandwich is to kidnap someone and stab them until they make it for you, you're a bad person and you need to be stopped.

Plus the organization doesn't just want heartless dead, they want to create more of them so that there are more hearts to fuel their infernal engine.

That too. With the Organization, the biggest problem isn't that they're trying to get Sora to slay Heartless. It's that they are actively trying to produce more Heartless for Sora to slay. Heartless are the filter through which they're pouring human Hearts into Fake Kingdom Hearts.

There's also another problem that is the existence of Fake Kingdom Hearts itself. According to Nomura, every Heartless Sora slays should recomplete naturally. If your Heart gets ripped out and made into a Heartless but then Sora kills it, you wake up alive and well again. But Fake Kingdom Hearts is pulling those Hearts away and imprisoning them indefinitely within itself.

It's like a soul prison, feeding on the lives Sora is supposed to be saving with his day to day work.

[up][up][up]Pretty much.

Organization XIII may (ostensibly) have sympathetic motivations but they put that motivation above innocent lives. An anti-villain is still a villain.

BTW, with Luxord's death, I wanted to bring up something else from earlier.

Remember when I said everyone has a uniform death? Fading into darkness and disintegrating in black shreds? And how that stands out against Demyx's death, who dies in a great pillar of light as water erupts around him?

So. Uh. That didn't happen with Luxu. Luxu has an unusual death as well.

Luxu still disintegrates in black shreds as Darkness consumes him, but there are glimmers of silver flickering inside his death decomposition as well. It actually does look similar to how Demyx dies, but with less of the Light. Luxu's death seems to signify that there is something unusual about him, a trait that Demyx shares.

Xaldin, Axel, Luxord, the COM crew, they get pretty standard deaths. Except Marluxia because he's a giant monster at the time. But not Luxu and not Demyx. It's interesting.

It depends on the member, the ones in Chain of Memories sort of just disintegrate but the ones in II have some visual effects that have their element to it.

[up][up] Oh, you'll be getting to Saix in a moment so I have to make this joke.

When Sora confronts Saix, Saix has this to say: "Different name, same fate."

Now, let's recollect what happened between Roxas and Saix.

When Roxas left Organization XIII, Saix tried to stop him.

Roxas promptly kicked his ass and left. And he was at half power.

You sure you want to invoke Roxas's fate in this scuffle, my werewolf buddy? Because part of that fate had your butt served to you on a bronze platter.

It almost funny how things were "changed" or "revealed" throughout the gamed. I guess it "recontextualizes" everything we thought we "knew" about the characters.

With Luxord and Saix dead, we move on to Real Ansem. Ansem's been trying to digitize the entirety of Kingdom Hearts while all this was going on. Now he realizes that this plan is actually stupid and that Hearts cannot be contained by data.

"Run," he implores Mickey while continuing to stand there and hold it. "It's going to self-destruct," he says while making no effort to remove himself from it. "Anything could happen!" he warns, still standing there.

Sora arrives and Ansem's like, "It's up to you now. I must remain here and die for no reason." He also apologizes to Roxas for murdering him.

Mickey implores Ansem to see reason and he's like, "My Heart is telling me to kill myself. Respect my decision to die without cause." And Mickey's like, "That's not your Heart, it's your Twitter Feed! Please, you mustn't listen to those assholes!"

And Riku's just like, "I vote we let him explode. Because I had to tolerate the better part of a year of him and turn myself into a creepy old man on his behalf. I need this catharsis."

Then Xemnas shows up because apparently it took him a really long time to figure out where in the castle the obvious laser beam was coming from. And Ansem rolls his eyes and is just like, "Oh, goddammit, Xehanort. Go away. I don't need you ruining my death."

Xemnas just goes straight into, "LOL what kind of idiot would be your apprentice?" Which is totally his Xehanort talking. Like, in the field of Evil Science, Xemnas is worlds ahead of Ansem. He's rubbing salt in the wound.

Ansem in his final moments is just like, "Your deep baritone is wasted on an asshole like you," and then he explodes, by his own admission accomplishing nothing since this explosion represents a failure in his device's purpose, not a success.

And now he's dead. And I'm not really sure why. The stored data Hearts do spray out all over TWTNW like confetti, falling to the ground and turning into Heartless, though. So. Uh. That's something?

And then Riku did not have to worry about being a creepy old man anymore.

Man, everything's coming up Riku. He found Sora and Kairi, he's not a creepy old man anymore, and he got to watch a pain in his ass, the reason he had to become a creepy old man and commit petty theft because Mr. the Wise didn't program a beach, explode.

It might actually be the best day of his life so far.

It does destroy most of false KH so that saves everyones asses cuz Sora and Riku barely made it out after Xemnas ate the leftovers.

they're super lucky the shadows didn't make Demon Towers or Tornados yet at least

actually, considering it's unlikely that someone killed all those shadows/released all those hearts again with a Keyblade, a bunch of people are probably left trapped.

The Organization, at least in KH 2 and Co M, is broadly very unsympathetic. Sure, ostensibly they have a sympathetic goal, but the characters themselves are mostly one-dimensional raging assholes, or just plain boring. Most of the scenes trying to invoke pathos for them in 2 fall flat to me for this reason, with the exception of Roxas and Axel of course.

Luxord and Demyx aren't that bad even in II. Stuck doing a job they don't much care for and obedient to the Org sure.

Heck considering how Demyx never wants to be serious Sora had to seriously piss him off to make him do just that.

Wasn't the reason Ansem the Wise died was because he was a Death Seeker? It wasn't that he couldn't have gotten away, its that at that point he actively wanted to die. Between tremendous guilt for being an asshole and the fact that his last machine was falling apart, he quite possibly felt as if he had nothing left.

...Which is honestly kinda depressing, even if it was him.

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -Fighteer

The thing about Kingdom Hearts endings is that they raise more questions just as much as the answer them. KH 2 felt conclusive even though it was still a cliffhanger.

Vanilla II feels conclusive because it didn't have any glaring dangling threads, just an And the Adventure Continues ending. Even with the Final Mix stuff it could have ended the story there, hinted prequel stuff notwithstanding.

Then Birth by Sleep came out and fucked up everything forever.
