I feel so betrayed...
I have a message from another time..."+ Every character in the original Dissidia will return."
Color me unshocked. It's a fanservice game, and cutting a sub-fandom's favorite character would be tantamount to decapitating their puppies and then peeing on the corpses as far as the Internet Backlash you'd get.
Still bugs me. Many of these characters only became fan favorites because they were in the original Dissidia, and the decision to put them in the original Dissidia was a bad one IMO. The Warrior of Light and the Onion Knight never said a single word in the entire game and don't have names, and neither did the Cloud of Darkness. Garland had a three-screen speech. Ultimecia was never seen for most of the game and had no presence.
The problem is that they made a fan-pleasing game without pleasing the fans. They completely removed most of the personality and all of the backstory of the most interesting characters, pulling them all down to the level of the simplest ones because they already decided to put them in, and failing to do so would make them look ridiculous. The result is a separate story with people that kind of look and act like Squall, Cloud, Zidane, etc., but have lost what made fans love them in the first place.
And yes, the first Final Fantasy was my first RPG way back in 1990, and I can still say that the first three games have practically no story and are a chore to play through.
@Montblanc: Thanks for remembering. 8-) I'm happy I ran it, but I'm also happy I stopped.
Wattttt, no KH characters? T_T.
Were the Onion Knights silent in FFIII? I've only played IIIDS, you see.
Either way, I applaud them for managing to give personalities to characters with SPS for Dissidia. I don't care if the games in question are old, dated, or "a chore to play through". Each game has its fanbase, most games have plenty of perfectly fine characters, and they all deserve representation.
Anyway, more info that I liked from that famitsu thing.
+ The orange bars below the character’s health bar pertain to Assist System.
+ Pressing ↓L+○ will execute a Brave Assist attack, and consume one segment of the orange Assist bars.
+ Pressing L+□ will execute a HP Assist attack, and consume two segments of the orange Assist bars.
Holy crap that's awesome. Can you imagine how many cool character combination strategies there will be? Imagine if you could play, say, Kefka, and have Exdeath as your assist in order to throw out his shields as a way to deal with close-range pressure?
Or play as Squall and use Terra as an assist for ranged combat?
- The soundtrack is double the size of the previous Dissidia.
+ All current characters and new characters will have a third alternate look.
Yessssssss.
+ There will be many new characters, not just three or four.
YESSSSSSSSS!
+ Lightning’s moniker is “Optima Commander” as she makes use of three different battle styles.
Now that we have their battle style names. I wonder if it's still too soon to add them to our Character page for Dissidia?
Tension in the heroes' ranks?
I have a message from another time...Onion Knight was the default class in FFIII. The DS version switched it to a hidden job.
This is "Dissidia: Final Fantasy", not "Dissidia: Shit".

and didn't the creators say that KH character would never appear in the games
Disclaimer: If anyone disagrees with anything I say, I am quite prepared to not only retract it, but also to deny under oath I ever said it.Kitase said they might be in a sequel.
The soundtrack is double the size? That sounds awesome...but then again, they might do the same thing as Dissidia 1 and reuse the original tracks, or previous remixes.
...Oh guuuuuuuyyyyyys! New scaaaaaaans!
Cool stuff:
- The Assist thing does indeed have the character show up to perform one of their own attacks. You see Lightning calling Warrior of Light to do Shield of Light
- HOLY DRAGOON KAIN!!!
^ I had a strong suspicion that HD Kain would make it into the game somehow. Why else would The After Years give us three versions of the same character?
Hmmm... maybe some of the "returning" characters are only "assist" characters now? >-)
I... highly doubt that.
I have a message from another time...@Cidolfas: It doesn't matter what you think of them. Their attention is supposed to be spread as evenly as it can, not proportional to the quality someone decides of each game.
@Enlong: In the NES version all four characters' were AFGNCAAPs (although they were generally assumed to all be male) and their default class was Onion Knight. Since that's the class most iconic to the game (the only other time they were playable was in War of the Lions), they made the Dissidia character Onion Knight.
@Kerrah: There's no need to be a completely asshole about it. *
@article: So when they say "Popular characters with a good direction of how to implement them in battle are chosen for Dissidia." I'm guessing that probably means if they have a character from a game with a "modular" Class and Level System like I-III, V, or XII they're probably going to take whatever character is the most popular and give them a moveset based mostly on that system.
When they said Firion was "changed almost entirely in battle", I wonder if its so some other II character can share the job system or just so for the sake of being different.
I hope this "almost entire change" to his battle style includes the ability to cast Ultima.
I have a message from another time...^^ If I had insulted neobowman for liking it, I'd be an asshole. I like stating my opinion, but I know it's only my opinion. I'm not stupid enough to actually start arguing something is objectively bad.

I really liked Firion's battle style in the first game. Double Trouble is fantastic. Kind of a shame they're changing it.
According to various sources Tifa Lockhart was the third newest Dissidia Duodecim character revealed at TGS.

Please no. She's being shoehorned into everything already.

MY BODY WASN'T READY
Well she's Final Fantasy VII's secondary character which they seem to be including in this game. Wonder who's going to be taken from Final Fantasy VI.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!^^ You just reminded me how underappreciated the Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon game for the Wii is.
^ Probably Celes. The game needs more female characters anyways.
Helpful Scripts and Stylesheets here.^ Oh god yes. Best FF remixes ever.
A couple lines and a still picture hardly counts. :/
