I think the real issue is they basically made DMC 2 Dante... Dante's real personality XD
____
Mundus is the White Whale of the Sparda brothers the source of all their pain
I mean if you think about DMC 1 for a moment
Dante basically pulls a Vergil, undoes alot of his father's safeguards just so he can avenge his mother and one up his dad... and He fails
He has to rely on his Father's power just to be competitive and in the end needs someone else to help him reseal Mundus.
Really all Dante ends up doing is thinking he killed Vergil since he didn't complete his goal of avenging his mother and outdoing his father.
Dante's depression in DMC 2 then makes alot of sense... Everybody is congratulating him of beating Mundus blah blah blah when the truth is Mundus pretty much trucked everything Dante threw at him and laughed it off... and He wasn't even fully unsealed yet. Dante has suffered the biggest blow to his ego.
Mundus is basically the only character that has ever made Vergil second banana
Honestly Mundus being used as that looming shadow has been for the best...similar to how Sparda seems to always just have been that much stronger no matter how strong Dante and Vergil get XD... Nero is catching up
I mean 3-5 have pretty much done nothing but revolved around Vergil one way or another.
People want Mundus back so the Brothers can finally avenge their mother. essentially the Arkham fight but up to 11
_____
Donte and Dm C pretty much waste their setup, you have Angels and Demons in a cold war but nothing is really done with it.
alot of the choices are safe... like you really want to screw with people. Donte is on Mundus' side at the start being his hatchet man against Reboot versions of Phantom, Nightmare and Griffon who are all allied with Virgel

I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Eh, by the end of DMC V it's pretty clear that Dante and Vergil have surpassed Sparda and Mundus.
Disgusted, but not surprisedWell, Mundus isn't actually dead so I wouldn't mind if he became Big Bad again. Especially since his boss fight apparently involves the universe itself like Asura's Wrath & I would like to see what kind of battle Mundus would bring by the modern console.
I can't recall everything that happened in Ghostbusters but in comparison, it seems people are aware that demons exist for some time. If not then DMC 5 made sure that was the case. In Ghostbusters people just straight up ignore natural disaster & a giant marshmallow mascot terrorizing New York City. I'm not entirely sure if that's the case with the other spin-off & comic books alike.

well there's that, but I meant that more in the sense Charles brought it up, of "it's either famine or feast". nero shows demon hunting can be consistent enough of a job even in time of peace to fund an oprhanage and a pretty easy-going life, disproving this idea.
"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."Dante's problem is he doesn't seem to actually charge anybody for anything
The Animated Series showed this pretty much every episode. then again Dante is also shown to also have quite a bit of money for all his undercover jobs and the fact he buy his way into a private poker game
DMC 1 , he takes the job for the chance at revenge = No $$$$
DMC 2 , He agrees to help if Granny will tell him about his father... and ends up trapped in hell = No $$$$$
DMC 3, He hasn't even opened fro business and is in it to deal with Vergil = No $$$$
DMC 4 , He takes the job as a favor for Lady = Possibly $$$$ but might just be settling a debt with Lady so No $$$$
DMC 5, V mugs a rich guy and pays with that. = $$

I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Nero's presumably smart enough to get cash first before doing the job.
Disgusted, but not surprisedNico taught him wellsaid it enough times
Nico doesn't take cash she takes demon blood crystals!
You'd think there would be some shadowy Occult Xcom organization for anti demon tactics

I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Y'know, I would like to see a game where Dante and Vergil team-up to take down Mundus for good.
I think that would be pretty cool. Bringing it full circle on a couple of levels.

"If you are going through hell, keep going." - Winston ChurchillSo Dm C?
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.TBH Dm C had a bunch of cool ideas that were completely wasted by the pretentious hack writing.
I'm not sure I even buy the pretentious bit on the side of the writing. It's not partiulcarly smart but it doesn't try to be, imo. most of the pretention it's attribued seem to come from the pre-release cycle where the devs acted like idiots, which strikes me as fairly different from hack writing.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."It's maybe a shorthand for how aggressively edgy and self-unaware it was, I think?
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.I could get behind both of those, actually, yeah.

"when you stare too long into the abyss, Xehanort takes advantage of the distraction to break into your house and steal all your shit."That whole slideshow they did about what Dante is & is not.
Where the OG is even compared to Brokeback Mountain.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's insane how no one there seemed to realize how insanely distasteful all of that marketing was.
Well, the slideshow wasn't marketing. It was a in-house example of what they didn't want their Dante to be like.
And in fairness, they had been told by Capcom not to be anything like the classic version of Dante, otherwise what was the point of hiring a different studio in the first place? There were several early drafts of the game that Capcom turned down for being too similar.
I still don't think a lot people are giving Dino his due, but I'll say if there's one thing that DmC failed miserably at its not making Dino anywhere as cool as Dante. That is legitimately a dealbreaker for me.
Actually going purely off of Nero's ending & Vergi's opening in DMC 4, Fortunata does seem to have some sort of demon problem which would explain why Nero's DMC is much more stable in comparison to Dante. I'm not entirely sure how problematic demons are in the or aware people are of them in general in the DMCverse since in 5 the military was completely helpless against them. I'm not even sure who's really paying Nero was he's doing his devil hunter business. I do know that Dante isn't the only or 1st devil hunter to exist. IIRC, he was training under someone before DMC 3 happen.
That being said, it's pretty much what everyone has already been saying about why Dante has so much financial issue in comparison to Nero.
Lady is also a Devil Hunter and she has no real problems with money other then bailing Dante out. Of course Lady had Dante and Trish investigate Fortuna because the Order of the Sword was cutting into her business by sending their knights to kill demons. But without them there is gonna a lot more room for Nero's new business too.

Yeah Devil Hunting seems to be a legitimate thing in-universe, just one that's off-the-record usually. The door's always open to massively expand the cast by bringing in a load of Devil Hunters either to back up our heroes during a massive crisis or to hunt their asses down for being demons themselves.
Bleye knows Sabers. The military being completely helpless is even more jarring since the Demons slaughtering them are Empusa, which in-game are basically Goombas to the likes of the player characters.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI was wondering if that's where the franchise would go next. Maybe have Nero fight a bunch of Devil Hunters in the next game, sort of like Metriod Prime Hunters. You could even have characters from other games as devil hunters, like B.B. Hood from Darkstalkers.

Oooooh more human-sized opponents.
I can see the hard-hitting boss battles already.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I figure Nero will be stuck fighting a bunch of Big Bad Wannabe Demons who think they have a shot at taking over with Dante and Vergil trapped in the Demon World.
Disgusted, but not surprised
He's only wacky in the moment. Most of the time he's barely functional.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.
