Typically This type of plot development is designed for a character like Vergil whose persona seems at odds with the idea of having sex... with someone other then himself

The Mother is a non-entity she exists cause of the biological fact Nero has to have a mother to be a Human/Demon Hybrid

Now you could expand it a couple of ways

IE Vergil went to Fortuna to learn about Sparda but ran into one of Sparda's many many rivals who hold a grudge

Except unlike Beowolf, This guy has his wits about him and is one of the few guys that hands Vergil a legit asskicking only fending him off by givingh im a wound that forces him to retreat

Vergil beaten collapses in back alley only remember the Demon's words that 'Strength means everything' if only you were your Father's equal

Then a kind soul finds a half dead Vergil and nurses him back to health, Vergil gets real close to that epiphany moment especially after the sex till the Demon comes back to finish the job

Vergil wins the rematch but everything around him is destroyed and thinks Nero's Mother has been killed in the struggle ergo Reinforcing Vergil belief in strength above all only to reveal she had survived but long after Vergil had left in despair.

Granted that just fleshes out the circumstances... Nero's mom is still basically a non entity

Maybe if you wanted Nero's mom to be a more active character

Maybe its just assumed she was a simple townsfolk but was actually another demon hunter from an order not based around Sparda

Make her a more [[Video Game/Bloodborne Lady]] [[Video Game/Nioh Maria]] or Emma type, Her and Vergil clash thinking the other one is the Demon they are hunting for various reasons and their fighting turns into flirting and then legit attraction on Vergil's part

Her order wants to mix her bloodline with Sparda's to create a more powerful heir... so she sleeps with Vergil slightly out of obligation of duty and legit attraction to the Doofus but then can't bring herself to just give her child to the life she has grown to resent... Leaves Nero at the Orphanage and goes off to pull a Kiritsugu on her own Order

that way you can leave it open whether she succeeded or not... with the maximum awkwardness of her showing up alive when Vergil is visitng Nero and Kyrie

So, those of you that have played Dm C 5, what do you think of the nonlinear way the plot is revealed? And the way it impacts gameplay (i.e., doing a mission as one character, and then later on doing one that happens before the first one that shows how that place got the way it was in the first mission)?

It leads to a few inconsistency where its very clear the reveal is being kept from the audience and not the characters

IE V and Dante referring to Urizen as... well Urizen in private even though the two of them both know its Vergil especially after V tells Trish is weird they keep the facade going

but it does allow for a mostly smooth narrative instead of missing bits and pieces

However it does kinda lead into Muscle memory issues with the constant character swapping ... Its not as bad as say DMC 4 but it gets kinda close with like 4 Dante chapters right in row

I justify it as Dante trying subtly to keep Nero out of the matter. Seriously though, Dante is pretty Enemy Mine over Vergil, and always has been. I think he wanted to nip the matter in the bud as quickly as possible without involving anyone else.

The Only One Allowed to Defeat You is the term your looking for... when someone is obsessed with defeating/killing another

The funny thing is that the rivalry between Dante and Vergil was initially rather one-sided on Vergil's part. It was pretty obviously a case of Vergil projecting a lot of issues on to Dante and deciding to attack his brother as a way of dealing with said issues.

Dante had his own issues too of course, but his animosity with Vergil was rooted mostly in the fact that Vergil keeps fucking shit up. Dragging Dante and who knows how many innocent bystanders into the mess.

So Dante completes his ownage of Vergil by wearing his hairstyle better than Vergil does, Nero becomes a Sith Lord, and V reveals his true identity as Ben Solo.

Fun fact, apparently if you use the taunt, V's Cane does 50 damage per poke 'V's Cane usually only does 1 damage if the enemy isn't ready to be finished off' after wards and keeps the purple glow... Dante's hair STAYS slicked back after using the taunt and Nero hood stays up and eyes stay glowing

V keeps the glow/buff apparently as long as you don't get hit possibly Devil Trigger, don't know about Dante or Nero

Funnily enough, in the now non-canon EU, Anakin tried that after being put in the suit. But because he relied on the Dark Side to heal himself, the moment he felt a bit of joy when it started to work, it would immediately fail. The Dark Side and happy thoughts don't mix.
