[up] Why the spoiler tag?

I heard it pronnounced as 'Maakee-EH' in the original, although it seemed to vary depending on the characters pronnouncing it.

It's the same way in the dub but in Japanese the "eh" kind of slips past.

I used to think Yue's name was pronounced "you" as well as Makie being just pronounced "maki"...

[up] As I said, the 'Eh' seems to vary according to the character. Ayaka's seiyuu, for instance, remarks the 'Eh' quite a lot. Negi's, not so much.

[up]Meh, part of the joke.

Anyway, maybe it's because anime's gotten me very comfortable with Japanese pronounciation, but I always referred to Yue and Makie as "YU-ay" and "Mah-KEY-ay". In terms of the former, it also helped that my sister's a diehard fan of Avatar The Last Airbender.

How IS Haruna pronounced correctly anyway? Should it be the first syllable stressed like most Japanese names? Somehow I think they got it right in the dub and I'm saying it wrong. I know Kazumi's was pronounced wrong (they stressed the "zu")

[up][up]Thanks man.

So wait, pronounciation between Italian and Japanese is close? Huh. Guess it helps that I'm half-Italian, that I'm currently in year 2 of Italian class, and that I'm heading over to Italy on Easter break. Go me!

[up]I always thought the second syllable in 3-syllable names was emphasized. Go fig.

[up][up] Not always the case when the wovel in the second syllable is a U (A-su-na, HA-ru-na), but true sometimes (Ka-ZU-mi, Se-TSU-na).

Glad you're coming over to Italy! It's a really beautiful country, although governed and populated by a bunch of selfish idiots that always try to do their worst to undermine it. *sigh*

[up]You think that's bad, try being from Newark, New Jersey; voted America's most dangerous city multiple times!tongue

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure I pronounce just about everything wrong, although at least I'm aware of the fact. I tend to think of the English pronunciation before the actual Japanese one.

[up][up][up] I don't know too much about Axis, should I follow it? Because a few of my friends do, and they got an extremely easy free pass at a comic convention here by wearing flags as capes.

[up][up] Well, Obama was basically hyped as being The Messiah in Italy (and I believe the rest of Europe/the world) during campaign. Unlike what happened in America though, such opinion still hasn't subsided much here, partly because we really used to hate who sat in the Oval Office before, partly simply because we see America as a distant and great country that isn't plagued by a Villain with Good Publicity like ours.

On-topic (but seriously, talking about miscellaneous stuff isn't bad given the multi-cultural nature and civilization level of this board): I don't get if Zazie's name's supposed to be pronounced 'ZA-zee-eh' (Japanese pronounciation) or 'Za-ZEE' with soft Zs (French, which for some reason I used to think was the correct one).

I go with the FU Nimation dubs and assume that it's the latter pronounciation. The name isn't meant to be Japanese anyway, so it doesn't have to follow the same conventions.

Besides, if the former's true, then I'll have to fix the Negima Abridged page. I thought they pronounced it wrong, but if they're simply using the Japanese spelling, then no fault on them.

[up][up] Hetalia is... okay, I guess. Nothing to write home about, just goofy short snippets of fun.

However, I still don't get used to see Germany... who is supposed to be the freakin' Germany around the 1940s... portrayed as a basically good hearted but very stern kind of guy.

[up][up]Yeah, it has it's moments, but overall I didn't find anything spectacular about it.

I'm also unsure how "Zazie" is supposed to be pronounced; it's not a Japanese name (that I know of), so I'm not sure whether the Japanese pronunciation is accurate or due to Engrish.

EDIT: [up] Lol. Is that how it's supposed to be pronounced? I always thought it was more like "MAH-ki-eh".

Actually I think some of the voice actors say it different ways. They even lampshade it in one episode if I remember right.

Well Asuna's Maki instead of Makie is canon straight from the manga as is Nodoka's Sense~ vs Sensei. (which wasnt even attempted in the English version.)

I have had no time to do the second and third Negima character page if someone has time can they do it?

[up][up][up][up] It is 'MAH-ki-eh' in fact. Pronounciation aside, that was some enjoyable voice acting. It helps that I'm a huge fan of dubbing over subbing, which believe me, is a rarity in Italy (or at least those who don't like dubs are WAY more vocal). The only anime with a more-or-less universally liked Italian voice acting here is Inuyasha (what's funny, if you've ever heard the first opening's English version, that's Inuyasha's Italian VA singing).

Talking about dubs, there's supposed to be a Spanish language, made in Mexico, Negima dub, only of the XEBEC series, but it's kind of an urban legend. It never has been shown anywhere, since apparently the series was dubbed but found no local distributor or networks willing to broadcast it afterwards. (Love Hina, however, WAS shown in Cartoon Network Latin America's Toonami!).

Others, however, say the Negima dub is a fake. So take this list with a grain of salt.

Negi: Laura Torres (Shippo in Inu Yasha, Tommy in Rugrats, Amanda Waller in Superman Batman Public Enemies, Lois Lane in Smallville, Martin and Ralph in The Simpsons, Kid Goku, Kid Gohan and Kid Goten in Dragon Ball).

Asuna: Rosy Aguirre (Buttercup in The Powerpuff Girls, Rio in Burn Up, Akane in Ranma One Half, Kid Krillin in Dragon Ball, Cherry in Saber Marionette J, Sailor Mercury in Sailor Moon).

Chao: Christine Byrd (Sakura in Naruto, Nurse Joy in Pokemon, Helga in Hey Arnold).

Takahata: Jesus Barrero (Seiya in Saint Seiya, Peter in Family Guy, Gingerbread Man in Shrek, Rex in Toy Story).

Chamo: Raul Aldana (Timon in The Lion King, Rabbit in The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, Will Turner in Pirates Of The Caribbean).

Misa and Nekane: Cristina Hernandez (Blossom in The Powerpuff Girls, Lime in Saber Marionette J, Anne Hathaway in almost all her movies, Sakura in Card Captor Sakura, Chibi Usa in Sailor Moon).

Chisame: Martha CeceƱa (Nabiki in Ranma One Half, Gatomon in Digimon).

Makie: Ana Lobo (Kagome in Inu Yasha).

Fate: Gabriel Ramos (Ash in Pokemon).

Haruna and Chizuru: Irma Carmona (Girl Ranma in Ranma One Half).

Kaede: Karla Falcon (Ino in Naruto).

Ayaka: Maria Fernanda Morales (Lulu in Little Lulu', Sailor Venus in Sailor Moon, Hafuku in Ikki Tousen'').

Nagi: Ricardo Tejedo (Hanagata in Saber Marionette J, Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean, Gollum in The Lord Of The Rings, Two-Face in The Dark Knight).

Nodoka: Patricia Acevedo (Lisa in The Simpsons, Sailor Moon in Sailor Moon, Angelica in Rugrats).

Konoemon: Arturo Mercado (Darkwing Duck and Negaduck in Darkwing Duck, Scrooge Mc Duck in Duck Tales, Master Karin in Dragon Ball).

Yue and Anya: Cristina Camargo (Sailor Saturn in Sailor Moon, Android 18 in Dragon Ball).

Konoka: Xochitl Ugarte (Misty in Pokemon, Sayoko in Ah My Goddess).

Chachamaru and Chigusa: Pilar Escandon (Mimete in Sailor Moon).

Kazumi: Ana Lucia Ramos (Anna in Shaman King, May in Pokemon).

Newest chart. It contains 311 spoilers. Can someone look at it and make sure I didn't mess anything up? I reorganized Cosmo Entelechia and the Mahora section for the most part. Added pictures of the Fatettes and adventurers plus made space for Mahora and CE people if any good images pop up for the important ones.

^^Didn't XEBEC supposedly ruin the series? That's really the only context I've ever heard their name in.

Also: I'm not sure if I want to think about it (though I'm becoming more convinced as I consider the idea that I do), but... isn't Averruncuship kind of inevitable now? Quintum and Quartum I can do without because they have silly hair (and because they're fairly obviously assholes), but Fate/Sextum could be... edifying.

^Arha, you're insane. In a good way. But I honestly can't even process that chart, let alone proof it. o.o

[up][up] Good job.

[up] It depends on what does she do next. If she crosses the Moral Event Horizon or tries to, I guess fandom won't warm up to her enough for it. I want to think Negima fans have less of a tendence to suffer Draco in Leather Pants syndrome.
