What separates it from a blog type thing is the spontaneity, I think. It's a place to post whatever silly image macro or animated GIF you found today, or maybe just pictures of stuff you've drawn, or respond to someone else's brief statement. It's not really a place to actually journal your innermost thoughts

Whoops.

Is it fine to necro this thread for the umpeemth time?

Because I created a Tumblr, and I'm wondering how long it will last.

Just ran into the Social Justice crowd on that site. I think I'm done with tumblr.

For the record, "social justice" as an idea doesn't belong to any single political group, but refers to just making society more just for people who have been marginalized (traditionally the poor and minorities).

The "social justice crowd" on Tumblr, on the other hand, are radical leftists so obsessed with political correctness, so divorced from reality, and so quick to get offended by everything that they make more even other PC-minded individuals (such as myself) bang their heads against the wall. They take a good idea (treating different people with respect) and running with it to the point of self-parody.

See this Twitter feed for quotes from said subculture. (As well as other weirdos like Otherkin, who frequently overlap.) My favorite quote: "i don’t like feminists using asshole as a pejorative. it implies that assholes are bad things, which contributes to a culture of body-hating"

Very true I meant that in relation to their presence on tumblr. Though I'm sure the more moderate types exist on tumblr as well, though not to the same volume.

By the way, most of the notes on this link was the result of being reblogged. I got at least 70 blog views out of this.

Not impressive in the grand scale of things, but once I can figure out how to send something like this viral...

I've seen some posts on tumblr about the whole SJ thing, and I think I tagged them as "justice?". smile

YEEESSSSSSSSSSS

I didn't use my Tumblr for a long time. Then I discovered tags. Then I discovered so many personal and fandom blogs that cross-referenced each other so well, I barely even check on my tags anymore. So I got obsessed with Tumblr.

For those interested in my Tumblr adventure, here's mine.

Funny, I haven't run into the SJ crowd on there.

As with regards to the Social Justice movement, I'm constantly tempted to label them as crusaders moreso than activists, since I find their practices a bit radical, but then again, I took classes in high school where we had to debate every day, which involved knowing how to concede in the face of a more rational argument, so I might be a bit biased in that regard on some "meta" level.

But still, I think the whole thing is a bit silly, and I say that as left-leaning person.

(Granted, I am the more "privileged" sort of individual, by dint of being a white heterosexual male.)

As for Tumblr in general, I'd rather not get one because I'd really rather not be spammed with Team Fortress 2 porn (or any porn of any video game I happen to mention), although that's just simply the impression I get.

They have filters for that. I've been on tumblr for two months and seen porn on my dash 5-7 times maybe less, and that's with no filters.

I ain't afraid of no porn.

I have seen some specified porn blogs, though that was probably through checking some of tags (and I've never included porn in my tags tongue).

Didn't mean to derail the thread. tongue

But yeah, between the porn, social justice bloggers, and general Fan Dumb, I'm just not big on the site.

I follow like 6 tumblrs I think. Most of them make fun of web comic artists. There's Bum Tickley which is all CTRL+ALT+DEL edits, whypeoplehatetompreston which is about why people hate Tom preston (But it's mostly devolved into why the creator does what they do now), Fucknohumon which is the same thing but about Humon, Didyuoknowgaming which are fake Didyouknowgaming macros, Quit Screen which is one guy taking video game screen shots and posting them as wallpapers, and Mike Relm. I just like Mike Relm.

I don't like those either though if they're slow, peaceful instruments they seem less intrusive to me.

Actually, since that last post I made I've found something worse: blogs with autoplay widgets that you can't turn off because there's no apparent interface for it.

I might just be overlooking it, though.

Tumblr here.
