^^^ I mean, it's always possible. Hataraku got revived out of nowhere and Spice and Wolf is getting a reboot or a season 3 or whatever. It's just not super likely.

Unlikely, they said (I think it was Ogino, Railgun's editor) something to the effect that they consider Railgun's season as always following an Index one back when Index III and Railgun T were announced.

The fact that Railgun is currently in a long flashback arc specifically so they don't step on Index's toes demonstrates a bit where their priorities lie. They could have done a side-story about the clones a la A Certain Droll Hivemind, but no, we get middle school politics instead.

(I actually did like the arc on reread, but it is frustrating)

Anyway, I'm going to try to get back into the novels again. Start from New Testament and see if I can handle the prose. I wish they'd do audiobooks.

Railgun chapter 149.1 up. More of the fight. And maybe Judgment and the adults have realized they're supposed to be on the same side?

Really liked to see more grounded bad guys like Hound Dog and DA. I saw Spark Signal on the anime as having a black ops capacity last I saw.

Haha wow, this series' power scale just keeps inflating. The solicit for the next volume says the new villain, Rosenkreuz, "surpasses the Magic Gods, the Transcendents, the Level 5s, and the magicians."

I'd say this series rivals DB in Power Creep but that might actually be lowballing it.

Frankly, the power levels completely stopped mattering once it got to the Magic Gods. They're all going to be punched by Imagine Breaker in the end anway.

And really, the feats of power are mostly a whole lot of "telling", but not "showing". The greatest feat of power we've seen in the story was Othinus deleting and recreating the world over and over again, and nothing else has come remotely close.

Personally, I found the Transcendants extremely underwhelming. The claim is that each of them individually has power equivalent to the entirety of the Magic side, but in practice they're just... powerful mages. Nothing we haven't seen before.

IIRC Nephthys nearly does that too but her attempt is squashed by World Rejector

[up][up]

Transcendants are fakes to begin with, them overpowering the whole magic side is in such a limited situation that it's impractical.

Same thing with the Magic Gods, for all their phenomenal cosmic power, they can't really do much of anything with it.

Nah, one effect of the Power Creep is that IB is very often not the thing defeating them, and other counter measures or equally powerful beings are shown challenging them. Gremlin mostly got got by the AA or Kamisato; Coronzon was Clonoth dealing with her and it's not even IB that gave the coup de grace but the thing inside it; Anna got punched but came right back to doing shit and it's Anna Kingsley and Mut Thebes who truly incapacitated her; Touma only got two Transcendants, the other time they got boxed was a battle between two of them and then CRC stomping them.

Coronzon's plan seemed promising but it didn't pan out. That said, I think Accelerator's Clonoth and Alice's power looked pretty close.

Mental Out chapter 21 updated. The host of the old Level 5 apparently had her own power boosted by the Level 5, and now she can use it to capture even Mikoto and Junko. Also, a Kihara is coming to the school.

Anyone else reading this? It's still early days, but it's good, and it's giving some interesting stuff on the characters and the power system. Such as one thing I was constantly complaining about, that we don't know much about the previous generation of espers.

Oh it's good, it's just that I need to wait for it and the Railgun arc to finish because the update time, the many new characters, and both focusing on Tokiwadai cliques, if in different years, means I often don't remember who is who and confuse who show up in what.

I do agree this recent focus on expanding on the history of espers is good, and long overdue. First it was the Beginning Child, now it's Cube senpai. Kinda made me re-evaluate previous headcanons but oh well. With a bit of luck, we will get more stuff on college espers and what will happen when they become adults.

Unrelated, cover of Genesis Testament's next colume is out. I like Rosenkreutz's design, even if he looks too much like Fiamma here with the coloring and his pose.

The manga adaptation of the ITEM spinoff is now out!

I really love how Mugino's laser beams are drawn, really makes it feel punchy through the page. Honestly, the art was my only worry because I remembered how the Accel manga's lackluster art really didn't help its case.

Railgun's story arc keep expanding that it's going back one year to cover said story.

Not that I follow the manga much.

I read/watched Index/Accelator/Dark Matter/Railgun (on TV)...

FYI, Mikaela Krantz is in Estonia as of 2021 to be a researcher in cultural studies.

So looking at 90% chance that she’ll not be able to reprise Misaki Shokuho just in case.
