I live in the American midwest, where would that put me?
On any of the many US servers. Server name should be shown at a character selection screen.

I see. Thanks for the info, I'm actually starting to get interested in the game.
Heh. Well, beware, it's a same degree ruiner of lives as Tvtropes are.

Nor are you limited to a server in your timezone. Just try not to go too far afield, or you'll have problems.

Ain't that the truth. Here in Australia, I'm lucky to be below 300 ms of latency. And that's on a good day.

I spent three years on a server two timezones away. I had lag issues, but those had more to do with my home town sucking (300 - 120,000 ms latency), the university connection was fine (~200 ms).

A mage is a good starter class. the teleports allow for easier movement which can be a big plus early on and frost is a ton of fun to play.

Not to mention Mages are notorious for AOE grinding potential, Frost Nova + Blizzard = 20+ dead mobs.

Though they lack the superior pets and self-healing of Warlocks.

Also, is Wowhead completely broken for anyone else?

That AOE grind potential is pretty much gone, due to the fact mages don't get Blizzard until they are level 50-something.

And Wowhead is working fine for me.

[up][up]though if you really want Ao E grinding potential, you want any kind of tank Spec. I know my 48 warrior(previously fury, now prot) can handle upwards of 7 even level mobs at once. As long as none of them have any kind of stun or incapacitate, that is...

Cool so its not just me getting latency around 200 or so, of course my framerate hovers around 15-20 so I have other problems. Just ran Baradin Hold, great raid. What really surprised me was even though I still have some 318ilevel gear(trinket and ring) I was putting out 11-12k dps. Not a bad night, sadly nothing I needed dropped.

I feel so incredibly dirty inside. I've dropped arcane...

Fire seems to be doing so much better though, and that makes me sad.

Same way I felt when I switched from Frost to Arcane back in Wrath. But they really took the axe to Arcane DPS when they reduced the damage buff from Arcane Blast stacks from 20% to 10%.

Incidentally, I took the liberty of examining your talent spec, and I would heartily recommend putting the second point in Improved Scorch. The mana it saves you is necessary in order to cast a decent number of Fireballs while also using all your cooldowns and refreshing Living Bomb periodically. I don't know if you do much Pv P on the character, but Improved Counterspell is not all that useful in PvE. Number crunchers have also determined that the proc for Arcane Concentration is calculated in some weird way that causes the talent to have significant diminishing returns, so you might want to go down to only one point there. It would be worth investing spare points in Netherwind Presence, also - if at all possible, you want to get to +12.5% spell haste so that your DOT effects will get an extra tick.

I'm in no way used to fire, I just applied what I'm used to from arcane and frost to it. which seems to have been a bit misguided. And what's up with the diminishing returns? I'd have thought a mana saving technique in a tree known for needing it would be useful... hmm...

I do PVP though, and the silencing is useful for trash mobs in case they try to get something off before I sheep them.

Well apparently, the way the Arcane Concentration talent actually works is that the chance to proc is much higher than written, but it has an internal cooldown of ten or fifteen seconds. All in all, it's supposed to work out to about the listed percentage. The issue is that the internal cooldown doesn't change regardless of how many points you put in the talent or how many spells you cast, so when you're casting a lot of GCD spells and 1.3 second Scorches, you end up being limited much more by the internal cooldown than by the actual proc rate. Thus, while the first point is useful (it's estimated to be comparable to an extra point in Netherwind Presence as far as DPS) the later points give you comparatively little benefit.

If you want to keep the Improved Counterspell points for Pv P, my recommendation would be to simply move one point from Arcane Concentration into Improved Scorch.
