Yeah, the Gauss Cannon is pretty easy to spam, given that the BFG needs a specialised ammunition type and can only be fired three times maximum before being empty.

From the walkthrough and build videos I've seen, my current plan for playing Doom 2016 is to primarily invest in Super Shotgun, Heavy Assault Rifle, and Gauss Cannon. Those three can pretty much cover all the enemy types, from the looks of it.

Oh, and it seems that Rich Gets Richer is the best Rune, as well as...whatever the Runes that make Glory Kills even more powerful.

Of course, I wouldn't know for sure until I actually start to play the game. XD

I purchased Doom II and Final Doom during the Steam sales, and I won't buy Doom 2016 at least until I finish Doom II.

So...it might take a while before I can play Doom 2016. XP

I think they underestimated how much ammo it drains. I mean fully charged it drains... 30 plasma cell points? Plasma rifle with 30 projectiles shot can't keep up with damage and it lacks penetration.

Something like that needs to drain 60 ammo per shot!

Some weapon mods seem a bit... not underpowered but take skill. Charged burst weapon mod for combat shotgun seems unwieldy. You need to be a good shot and time it right compared to shooting grenades. I am grateful they changed it into a gatling shotgun mod for Doom Eternal! I just hope weapons are a bit more balanced in general for DOOM Eternal, Super Shotgun was that broken with mastery unlock.

Micro Missiles + Mastery Unlock + Rich Get Richer = holy shit lmfao

Hmmm... once I get OG Doom games, I'm gonna play Eviternity megawad for DOOM II. Those textures are beautiful.

So, while watching a Doom 2016 vid, I actually got to listen to the clear sound of Chaingun.

Oh.

Oh my.

Yeah, if I have spare Weapon Upgrade points after fully upgrading aforementioned three, I'm so investing on Chaingun.

Because holy crap, I find the firing sound to be so amazing!

Edit: Mobile Turret mode, however, sounds a whole lot less impressive though. :/

To be fair, Mobile Sentry's mod is literally emptying the ammo belt for the Chaingun very quickly, because you're firing three times as many bullets.

Thankfully, the Mastery Upgrade prevents it from stalling, which is a blessing, especially if you have maxed out the Argent Cell upgrades in the Ammo Category.

I wonder how they've improved upon mobile turret in DE. Same goes for remote detonation mod, an underrated weapon mod for rocket launcher XD I also wonder what will be Chaingun's other weapon mod.

I wonder what will be Super Shotty's second weapon mod, because... I got nothing. Meat hook is an awesome idea however.

Which is why I really, really want parkour based maps in Doom Eternal, swinging from pole to pole, vaulting, mantling, hooking cacos and pain elementals to reach other areas, etc...

[up][up][up] YMMV on the mobile turret sound.

There's nothing that says Gatling Good like a nice and long BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTT

The heavy assault rifle has the best sound effects in DOOM 2016 in my opinion. Which saddens me a bit because it should have been the Super Shotgun. But the BRRRRRRRRRRRT of the mobile turret chaingun is still good. Really none of the weapon effects are bad, asides from maybe the plasma rifle.

If nothing else, Chaingun looks like a perfect counter for Lost Souls, just like in the original Doom.

Speaking of which, started to play E 3 M 4, House of Pain. I'm slowly but steadily inching towards to beating this game. XD

One thing I dislike about original chaingun and pistol is, to use it reliably for long range you have to tap instead hold the trigger to make use of long range. I feel it kills momentum too much when you have one far away cacodemon and rocket launcher won't cut it when it zig zags in air and potentially waste a rocket.

Also, am I a filthy heretic for playing OG Doom with mouselook enabled? Because I totally would. I'd just not jump... how jumping breaks the game so much [lol] how come the community never bothered to remake original Doom to accomodate mouse & keyboard and jumping?

Oh, when I played it a few years ago, I did it with mouselook.

Might make the Cyberdemon a complete pushover, but still.

Of all the new demon enemies, Whiplash is my favorite.

It looks just so damn cool! Really like the Red and Black and Evil All Over look below its waist, which looks centipede-like. Not only that, the upper body has wires going in and out of it, exposed brain and one fugly face.

After watching walkthrough videos and trying to find all the enemies in E 3 M 4, I realized: wait a minute, I already have all the weapons I need (except the chainsaw in M5), I don't even need to bother with trying to kill or find all the items!

So I just blitzed through the whole thing and I got like 70 percent kills and 40% secrets. Eh, who cares. [lol]

You gonna play TNT Evilution and Plutonia Experiment as well? Careful, those two add-ons are tough as balls.

In Plutonia Experiment, it has an archvile maze too.

Today is the day! Is it Quake Con still? I think it became DOOM Con.

I want my epic singleplayer Quake 5 still! it does comfort me knowing reading some articles that DOOM Eternal is influenced by Doom 64 and Quake 1. For Quake, the slipgate in the E3 demo leading to Sentinel Prime is one such reference.

Anyway before time starts, wanted to share this video:

I like the design process id had back then. Making clay models and sculptures, then digitize them and texture over them? Like those models! Amazing this was in 1994

That was basically how video game companies in the West did things. 1992 had Mortal Kombat's Goro done with a clay figure of sorts.

Get ready to blast demons like it's 1993, 1994, and 2004, because the Doom trilogy is headed for Nintendo Switch via the eShop TODAY!

Featuring all the expansions!

Just in time to celebrate 25 years of ripping and tearing huge guts!

And apparently we were supposed to know this at QuakeCon, but I guess someone at Nintendo UK sort of goofed. tongue

where is 1997? Are you telling me there's no Doom 64 for Switch? Shiiiiit.

They missed a damn great opportunity, especially after Doom Eternal is partly inspired by Doom 64.

Now this is headdesk worthy. What the fuck Bethesda and id.

[up] Eh, maybe there's some red tape keeping Doom 64 from getting re-released?

After all, it was developed and published not by id Software, but by Midway Games. And if I'm not mistaken, Midway went the way of the dodo ages ago.
