I don’t think Universe is employed by the ASA otherwise
Maybe they should though
Put him on retainer. He’s tried to destroy or take over the world a significant zero times

Forever liveblogging the AvengersHe is very public and proud about his status as a supervillain, though. Someone really should ask him about how he defines "hero" and "villain" if the latter does not require actually committing crimes in his view; I suspect that the definitions boil down to "doing things out of altruism and self-sacrifice" vs. "doing things out of self-interest", with the caveat that "self-interest" includes "well-being of specific individuals that one personally cares about" (e.g. Dr. Universe caring for Greta as his protege and possibly Love Interest, and caring for Spinnerette both as a Worthy Opponent, respect for her staunch heroism in spite of what reality keeps throwing at her, and because she's frenemies with Greta) and "adhering to one's personal code of ethics" (e.g. Dr. Universe being opposed to the insidious methods that his rival Demikhov resorted to in the name of "science").
This actually reminds me of the Fate franchise, where many Servants are given Good or Evil as their alignments despite their myth/legend/history not fitting such a label at first glance unless, IMO, you reinterpret the labels as revolving around whether the character's worldview and/or overall personality is primarily driven by self-interest or not.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. He still did crimes and illegal things. His point of difference is just that he doesn't have harm to others as the goal, only if they stand in the way.
His main principles seem to be:
1. I do what I want and you can't stop me.
2. Never do anything for free.
It works really well as a villainous philosophy, and is amusingly accurate to Objectivism.
But he's able to walk in public without getting arrested. That doesn't work if he actually committed any felony-level crimes.

resurrecting this thread to say look ohio's third best superhero is on a cover of an actual spider-man comic.
apparently krow was not asked about this so I hope it doesnt go into legal action
At least none that have given him true infamy. Quite frankly, as an ancap, I don't doubt he's committed countless felonies just by existing.
My posts make considerably more sense read in the voice of John Ratzenberger.
What hero license? He just applied for membership in the ASA based on the fact that there's no actual warrant for his arrest due to his Pragmatic Villainy keeping him clear of committing actual felonies; he even specifically says that his "supervillainy is beneath notice". I'm under the impression that he only sought the membership specifically at Greta's behest so that he can access the secret island resort for his vacation (also at Greta's behest).
Are you assuming that everyone in the ASA is a superhero? There has got to be a lot of non-superhero employees to do the organization's day-to-day business and upkeep.
... Now that I think about it, I've realized that we've yet to see any active superheroes who are antiheroes in the mold of the Batman or the Punisher. Maybe they are actively shunned in this setting due to their vigilantism, and thus rejected by the ASA?
