Blackbeard's bounty is actually a bit lower than I thought it would be. At 2.25 billion, that's only a bit higher than Luffy's 1.5 billion. Do Shiryuu and Catalina actually have those powers, or just the fruit themselves? The Clear Clear Fruit seems a bit weak for Shiryuu.

I mean, yeah. That's a 1.5 times difference. That's the same size difference as between Katakuri and Luffy. I was totally expecting the actual Emperor's bounties to be no lower than 5 billion.

Well remember that Blackbeard is the newest of the bunch and was starting from a bounty of zero.

Considering Shiryuu is already a master swordsmen, being able to turn invisible is a pretty big boon for him.

To answer Pushover's question, yes, Shiliew has eaten Absalom's fruit.

Now I'm wondering if there have been more offscreen deaths of characters we know done by the Blackbeards in their pursuit of Devil fruits.

It sounds like Blackbeard also offers Moriah a chance to join him.

Man, Zoro vs Shiryuu is either going to be really interesting or really boring, depending on how Shiryuu uses the Clear Clear Fruit.

Oh shit, I just realized that the Clear Clear Fruit could potentially be super overpowered in its Awakened state! If Shiryuu figures out how to use it like that, he could potentially be able to turn the entire battlefield invisible, leaving Zoro unable to see anything around him for a gigantic radius. I wonder if the Clear Clear Fruit user can see what they make invisible.

If it is Awakened, that's how I imagine its power would work, if Don Flamingo's Awakened Fruit power is anything to go by. I posted something a while back on how I thought various Fruits would work if Awakened.

I've actually come to suspect we've known some Awakened characters for a long time, though they haven't been explicitly identified as such. In particular I wonder about Crocodile (his powers seeming to encompass not just sand but all "dry" things) and Kuma (his ability to push things like abstract concepts).

Some pictures are out showing that Blackbeard finally got a braided beard like his namesake. King looks like he's wearing a cross between an Impel Down guard's uniform and a gimp suit. He has black wings too which the spoilers didn't mention. Moria looks the same as ever (so no Hades Moria from Chapter 0).

I'm not exactly going to mourn that Absalom pulled the short straw and ended up our first present-story death that was both unambiguous and non-momentous. Always thought that character pushed the boundaries of good taste even for a villain.

A simple group shot (even though the crew is still nowhere near close to reuniting) but a really effective one with all the bright colors. Now that we can see them all in color the winners of this outfit round for me are Zoro, Franky, and Nami with Law and Carrot being runners up pending whatever their's are colored. Looks like Oda also finally realized that he'd played out blue and pink for "princess" hair colors and moved on to elsewhere in the pastel family.

Yeah, I'm not exactly sorry to see this character bite the dust either. Creepy invisible voyeur and molester and attempted rapist? Blech.

I think Oda doesn't even like him,since he was surprised he had any fans at all. But yeah, Absalom is now history.

I do wonder if we'll learn more about his "phantom reporter" career, though.

The name of Zoro's Blackbeard counterpart is now spelt as Shiryu. Obviously Oda realized Shiliew is a mistake.

No. Somebody will likely make an announcement when it is out.

It may not be out for several hours.

According to multiple places I checked, we'll have to wait until friday despite the early spoilers.

Anyway, I agree with Pushover on Blackbeard's bounty being lower than I expected, but he's also the newest one, and I expect Kaido's, Big Mom's, and Shank's bounties to be much higher than his.

Saiga and I were talking and he said he hated the whole "5th Emperor" thing. That it felt undeserved and also kind of lessens when Luffy actually beats one of them. What do you think?

I feel like the only Emperor Luffy will beat one on one is Blackbeard.

Kaido & Big Mom though, yeeesh he needs an entire army for them.

In a way, it's kind of like that In-Universe, too. Luffy basically got the title for everything he did in Whole Cake Island and escaping with his life. It's pretty obviously a instance of sensationalism.
