even if Luffy does die young it won't be for a while because he's still 17. even if he only has like 10 years left he can still accomplish a lot in that time

For fanfic help, see Writer's Block/World Building subfora.

On topic, Boa Hancock joining the crew would be like adding a female Sanji, only now for a single person. Whatever the way her crush will be resolved, it will most likely be done in a comically exaggerated fashion, so no worries about it destroying the Straw Hats' group dynamic.

I know what you said, sugar, but 'platonic' still entails a world of ideas.

Who thinks BB's crew will be the final villain group?

I ask because of Zoro, I think it would be odd for him to fight Shiryuu with all the hype Mihawk has.

That's a very good question. It would seem that the top of the swordsman world is akin to a series of small steps at the top of a mountain. We don't know where Shiryu and Zolo (yeah, I spelled it that way. Zoro sounds like a cheap knockoff, and I like how "Zolo" sounds) are on the mountain, but from what we've been told, Mihawk may be the top step and Shanks and Vista are on slightly lower steps. The implied closeness of the Vista & Mihawk fight and the fact that Mihawk and Shanks tied before shanks lost his sword arm suggests that:

  • The top of the sword world is a position that could change fairly easily, as long as you've passed the bulk.
  • Oda may realize that he's built up our expectations too much about swordsmen; just because they're the best in their field doesn't mean they're high among the top fighters. Shanks could still supposedly equal Whitebeard or Kaidou, but was still wounded by Blackbeard. Mihawk's sword skill was completely nullified by Jozu.

Did I communicate that clearly?

Shanks got wounded by Blackbeard years ago. Before he even met Luffy. And we don't know very much about that fight aside from how the scarring blow wasn't a cheap shot or taken by surprise. I wouldn't really dwell on that incident too much until we learn more.

And Jozu tanked a nameless slash. I doubt that was the best Mihawk could do.

He calls it "The world's strongest slash", and it's implied he was going all out to see how he was compared to whitebeard.

Also, on the previous page, did anyone notice to the right and below Squad, there is a pirate with 6 arms and an octopus on his head. If it weren't for the fact that it was on his head instead of his actual head, we'd have had confirmation of an aquatic zoan, it seems.

And that can't be a fishman because...?

because he has a human head with an octopus sitting on top of it. Yes, I'd thought about fishman.

Seeing as how Jozu has a DF that lets his body morph into diamond, I would say his skirmish with Mihawk says more about his DF power than Mihawk's strength or lack thereof.

Remember, Squardo managed to mess up WB. I have no doubt Mihawk could put the hurt on WB.

I'm not a One Piece reader so I might be wrong but pretty much all of Boa's precessers died because of love sickness so in a way if she doesn't appear again in the manga she's pretty much going to have an offsceen death so we'll see if Eiichiro Oda is that heartless

also unfortunately Luffy in my view is the most chaste of chaste heroes (at least Ash and Ichigo blush)

I find it hilarious that Bulbapedia speculates that the reason so many shippers think Ash might be gay is because he's so chaste.

That seems to be a common thread among fictional characters, if your not a skirt chaser, you're gay. Hell, I've gotten this too.

Then again skirt chasers are often considered gay because they're "obviously overcompensating for their hidden sexuality".

In short, Everyone Is Gay. You can't win.

I've always thought that Luffy more or less completely asexual. I mean, his behaviour towards Boa is well above most Chaste Heros. (Remember, for example, Ichigo's reaction to Yoruichi, getting flustered and embarrassed.)

question: devil fruits can be "eaten" by inanimate objects right? what would happen if a ship was given one?

I think that's happened before in the series. With that Elephant-Sword that Spandam had.

An elephant that ate the Sword Sword Fruit? Or a sword that (somehow) ate the Trunk Trunk Fruit?

It was a sword that could turn into an elephant, also Mr. 4's dog was actually a gun that could turn into a dog, but I'm wondering what would happen if a sailing ship was given a devil fruit. Would it sink because it's in water? or because of it's natural boyuancy would it still float as long a most of it was above water?

^Fruit users need to be at least halfway submerged for the water thing to kick in. So said boat would be fine normally, but would probably be able to carry less weight without sinking than normal, and would cease to have an buoyancy once submerged.

That said, giving a fruit to a boat seems like a remarkably bad idea.

I understand( or, in this case, something) someone who eat the DF 'just' become very weak and unable to do anything when submerged. The drow so fast because they are not moving. That being said, as long a boat keep being, whell, a boat, it should probably be able to float. It would be somewhat unable to use it power, unless it is a 'passive' power (like Luffy's).

if it was a zoan type it might be a bit more useful, expecially with a flying type, but it is an interesting thought

On the left hand side of the panal with the six-armed pirate is what looks like a walrus zoan type in his half-and-half stage. Either that or a really ugly captain....

And a devil-fruit ship would be very interesting and surely will be included somewhere down the line. It's too good an idea to pass up.

do you think it would be possible for a human to learn and use fishman karate? probably not at the same level but more like not getting weaker in water and being able to swim faster than normal humans, and maybe even using that delayed air punch Jinbei used in Impel Down. or more importantly Kuma can "push" anything right? does that mean he can "push" devil fruits out of people? if he can it's too bad what happened to him because he would be Blackbeard's worst enemy.

One Piece 573 is up on One Manga, beating Manga Stream, surprisingly.

Oh fuck. Super Saiyan moment, anyone? Seems about as classic a set-up as conceivable. Also, considering that this is One Piece, what do you think of Ace's chances of surviving this? I mean, Luffy took about the same kind of injury from Croc, minus the lava, but, still.

WHO SAID FIRE COULDN'T BE BURNED?

Actually, that kinda, sorta, might make sense. You can't you can't burn fire, but you can suffocate it.

A layer of molten rock (or an explosion [or even a higher intensity flame, sort of]) could definitely deprive a fire of the oxygen it needs to burn.

Of course, there are slight problems with using lava as a fire-fighting implement, but that's a trope of a different color. And this particular incident probably has more to do with Haki anyway, so what the hey.
