I don't miss Haruhi, but I miss the cult of Haruhi.

WHY DIDN'T ANYONE TELL ME A NEW HARUHI BOOK WAS OUT!? For crying out loud, the English version released within days of my birthday last year!

Well, I haven't gotten it yet, but apparently The Intuition of Haruhi Suzumiya is out in all formats, and has been for nearly eight months. Anyone read it yet?

Yeah. The final story is the best one but that's to be expected since it's the longest.

Is the series over now, then? I've seen art floating around that claims to be of adult Haruhi.

It's been fun.

I remember seeing that a while ago, it was some minor thing added onto the Yuki box sets or something. I thought we discussed it on this thread, but I can't find it.

It's true that in the Disappearance of Nagato Yuki spinoff that by the time the series is over the characters are older than in canon, because that series ends after they graduate and then has a small timeskip before the final chapter. So the characters as seen in said chapter would be perhaps 18, 19?

You know it occurs to me that this scene of Kyon putting his foot down is literally Kyon learning to get over himself.

Haruhi might never be coming back, but at least it went out on a high note. I guess this is the best Series Finale we really could've gotten.

I still can't believe the amazing power this movie possesses. It makes the story the tv series have so much meaning to it. All of the things that happened in the series were brought together for this very moment for Kyon. Which turns into a beyond wonderful character development and the greatest inner monologue I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is truly an amazing work.

While the rest of the movie is fantastic, this scene cemented it as my favorite anime movie of all time. Seriously this scene is one of the most perfectly executed scenes I have ever seen in any movie.

This scene is fucking amazing. This movie made Kyon's character develop immensely, usually we see Kyon always giving us a sarcastic view on his life. Nagato changes the world into a place Kyon believed he wanted & a place where Nagato could be normal. Kyon chooses Haruhi's world and admits that he likes his life. Later on he apologizes to Nagato, because he knew his choice was selfish and he was sorry for taking away that world from her and for relying on her all the time.

Best thing about this scene is that even Nagato went like "wait wha"

The cat brings up an interesting idea. The idea of how human speech is perceived. Us humans have the idea that if one or two people are exchanging words back and forth, we assume that the person we're talking to has an understanding of what we're talking about and vice versa. But how is this proven? Just because one person can respond and sound like he knows what he's talking about, it doesn't ultimately mean that he knows what he's talking about. Sure it might sound like he does, with the use of his words, but how do you know if what he's saying could mean a whole nother thing. Think about this, let's say there is a group of people from a distant planet that spoke the same English as us Earthlings do. But their words have a completely different meaning as opposed to what we say and mean. So if "hello" on our planet is a form of greeting, "hello" on their planet could mean a form of negativity or something else. Or one could say, "Hi. How do you do?", and that can be mean on this other planet, "With this death ray, I will vaporize your entire human race!" Okay, that was a little dark, but you get the idea. Just because words and phrases might sound the same to one person, to another person or alien, it could mean an entire different meaning.

Haruhi never had any sort of definitive ending, no. Probably the closest that could be considered such would be the And the Adventure Continues elements of the ending of volume 10. Volume 11 does not continue the story in any meaningful way as far as I know, with it being a collection of short stories that do not impact any overall plots. And given that the author seems to have moved on for the most part I certainly wouldn't expect more significant story developments of any kind, let alone a conclusion.

We had an entire volume that was nearly 100% plot, but that was almost a decade ago. Remember? It almost ended with Haruhi getting whatever made her "god" stolen by an ass with a sarcastic smirk.

The author himself kind of admitted that he was the weakest link to the franchise, given his lack of.. anything actually.

Why does the timeline split in Disassociation?

It's been a long time since I read Dissociation but iirc:

In one of the timelines a new member joins the SOS Brigade: Yasumi Watahashi. Things in this timeline continue on pretty much as standard, with no major incidents or troubles to speak of. In the second timeline the evil (I guess?) versions of the three factions are trying to get Haruhi's powers transferred over to Kyon's friend Sasaki. Yuki gets sick because the evil data entity is attacking or doing something to the good one, and so on.

Eventually it's revealed that Yasumi is literally a manifestation of Haruhi's powers that, in the timeline she exists in, was created to prevent Kyon from reconnecting with Sasaki. The two timelines are merged and Haruhi ends up remembering Yasumi as a middle schooler who snuck in and joined the Brigade but was eventually found out and went back to her own life.

I could be misremembering at least some of that, but I think that's the gist.

That's all well and good but why were there two timelines to begin with? Did Haruhi cause it, did Sasaki cause it, did evil Koizumi cause it?

I don't actually think there's ever a 100% verifiable reason given about that. Strictly speaking I think it's just chalked up to Haruhi's powers being Haruhi's powers.

TY.

Scenes from Haruhi: Kyon being the most relatable mood.

Wow. I forgot how toxic Haruhi is. Simultaneously I can't believe Kyon was worked up to the point he was going to straight up deck her.

Scenes from Haruhi: When you go to a baseball game but subsequently have an existential crisis

And yet, here the anime gets all deep.
