I was looking over the page for Re Genesis and noticed that "David Sandstrom is an asshole par extraordinaire" had been changed to "David Sandstrom is an *** par extraordinaire" by a user called Braindt. I changed it back but, upon searching for other edits by Braindt, noticed the same thing on a couple other pages. I'm thinking it may be a net-nanny program since it's always the same pattern of three asterisks, regardless of the word. Also, it caught "asshole" but missed "duckfucker" (don't ask, long story) in the same article, so it may be looking for standalone words only. Conversely, maybe that's more indicative of it not being a script, since a script would just look for the string "fuck" and swap it for asterisks.

Considering that s/he posted some rather religiously-charged/socially-conservative passages in addition to that, I suppose it's equally likely that s/he is a bowdlerizer as that they're using censorware, but who can be sure?

Anyway, is there a way the user can be warned about what they're doing, in case it is a censorware program and they're not aware of it? They've only edited 4-5 pages so far so I'd hate to see them curbstomped over what might be an honest mistake.

Siggy boogy doog.

Either action (running a nannybot or deliberately bowdlerizing articles) is grounds for a ban. Madrugada is being nice by sending a PM first.

Edit: This user only has 4 edits to his/her name, so it's not a crisis yet.

Installed edit ban. Automatic for bowdlerizing, doubly so if the person is also pushing a religious agenda.

Well, if them's the rules, them's the rules. Thanks, everybody.
