Middle-aged men can get away with that more than younger men, mainly because there are more contexts in which one must dress formally as one gets older and one's appearance does change in ways that make certain hats more wearable.
Jean jacket...? Hmm. Depends on how your face was shaped and what else you were wearing. That could be anywhere from sexy to revolting.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.P.S. Newsboy caps are the best, but very hard to wear if you are not a newsboy.
I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception. No, he doesn't look old enough or wear the right stuff to look good in a trilby.
what do you mean I didn't win, I ate more wet t-shirts than anyone elseI think I pull off the trillby but I actually have to try and put together an outfit to match it, usually involving a jacket of some kind.(One chick likes stealing itoso it's fun to bring in generally.)
Don't often do that these days though.

I'm baaaaaaackBlue jean jacket, whatever t-shirt I was wearing, and brown fedora. Not a good look, but better than without the jacket.
Fresh-eyed movie blogIs it just me, or is there a disproportionate scarcity of informal hats?
(...related question: did Indiana Jones wear a fedora, or was that another kind of not-quite-the-same-style, like the trilby?)
The Revolution Will Not Be TropeableNope, that was a fedora. When I was shopping for my fedora I was adamant that what I wanted was not just an Indiana Jones replica hat, but it was hard to find hats in my size and it turned out the brown wide-brimmed fedora I went with was in fact a licensed Indiana Jones fedora.
The newsboy cap I justified purchasing because it was less than $20 at the store where I work and I had a blue-collar part in a play set in the 20s at the time.
Well, I was a cameraman. Not exactly blue-collar, but it felt more like a working stiff role than an artist.
Fresh-eyed movie blogNewsboys and flat caps generally look nice, although the latter can get a trilby-esque reputation, if not worn well.
It is becoming more inclusive... It's "fedora-flexible".

This is a signature.I love fedoras.
Welcome, Konk.
This is a signature.Thank you, Wolf.
Why all the hate for trilbies? Are you really gonna be all elitist about hats?
My hat is a fedora stuck in a trilby's body.
I like to think of the trilby as the fedora's younger brother, and thus, I consider it like a fedora.
I like to admire Fedora's from afar. Can I join?
"Moody Stops Bicycle Theft, Takes No Prisoners"- Harry Potter and the Natural 20Of course you can.
I personally prefer trilbies, thank you.
friendzoned again,,,,,,, m'emes,,,,
Mew Mew Kissy Cutie 2 is absolute garbage.I used to wear one back in M Iddle through high school. Now I don't due to the hat's rep and association as if of recent years. I just wear flat caps now.
When you're not the father, It's a great big surprise. Thats-a-Maury.I used to have a green one with a short turned-up brim as a kid, back when I was in my "detective" phase. I think it may have been a trilby. I don't have it anymore.

i hunted down a neon green fedora at a rave once and now it’s hanging on my wall like a conquest of war
I, Furudo Erika... have duct tape..!I want a fedora, but they're expensive and make the people in the street stare at me
~ * Bleh * ~ (Looking for a russian-speaker to consult about names and words for a thing)For the past decade I've worn a fedora daily, at least when the weather allows for it. My everyday-hat is a fairly cheap one, but I also have a nice Italian-made one out of black felt, which I wear together with a suit.
I own a fedora, a newsboy cap, and now a Panama. I hate trilbies.
I just wish I had more opportunities to wear these hats. They need layers not worn in casual contexts anymore. Well, the cap maybe with a sweater.
For a while in college I'd wear my fedora with a denim jacket. I now consider that my biggest fashion faux pas. But even then I wouldn't wear it without some kind of jacket.
