Just to note though that I don't think Royalty by definition requires a divine mandate, thats just how its commonly justified in west at least Like, isn't qualification for Royalty basically "The line of founder of the nation/family of first ruler/conquerer of the land"?
Well, usually to cement their dynasty even conquerors will claim divine mandate by saying that clearly God/gods meant for them to become ruler, because they let them conquer the country in the first place.
In the East you had the Chinese emperors and the "will of heaven". In the West you had divine mandate, or better yet, paid off the pope.

Yeah, but its not actual qualification for it, its more of excuse/badass boast/justification sometimes used for "Hey why should child of the person who conquered us rule us"
That's basically how China worked. Whoever won the regularly-happening splintering and battle for the throne has the divine mandate because without it how would they even manage to win? And when they get bumped off, obviously they lost the mandate for whatever reason.

Still, point is, the justification still implies divine over royalty. Even if the actual reason is "more swords diplomacy", the justification is divine.
Another common justification is just say the king/emperor/whatever is divine. Either due divine lineage or reincarnation. Either, that still puts divinity at the top (as royalty is just divinity by other name).
Regardless Marth is still being hilariously blasphemous by putting himself and his class above gods.
I assume he sees it more as how the rulers of the Middle Ages viewed the Pope, or how the daimyo of the Sengoku era viewed the emperor. Their endorsement is a nice bonus to legitimacy, but ultimately, they'll take power and rulership for themselves if need be.
Wario as Noveau Riche cracks me up
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.The entire point of Wario Land was to go around hoarding treasure, after all. Plus he fits the stereotype. Didn't inherit his money, crass, gaudy/flashy.
Katie has tweeted some explanations on the tier list, here they are in chronological order:
- some important clarifications:
- no, Rosalina isn't royalty
- no, Rosalina is also not a god
- Rosalina is just some clown who had a spaceship
- there are a couple characters whomst you could argue belong in divinity tier but Uh, Spoilers, So
- Marth does not recognize the sovereignty of King K. Rool or King Dedede
- Isabelle has ascended from animal tier because she has a steady white-collar job, unlike sonic the hedgehog, who has a lifestyle incompatible with society and does not wear pants
- donkey kong wears a tie but I don't think he has a job
- do I know why people keep telling me yoshi is under audit by the IRS for tax fraud? no. do I believe it? yes, immediately and without question.
- Robin has a Bad Dad and by the transitive property is also bad
- Zero Suit Samus is not on this list because she is the same person as One Suit Samus. Doctor Mario is on this list because he is a different person than Mario, with all of his medical knowledge given separate physical form. This Is Canon
- PAC MAN HAS A JOB
- Mii Fighters Are Not Canon
- this is the only legitimate counterpoint anyone has made and I apologize profusely.
- lucas is a wanted outlaw who refuses to participate in the capitalist system that is forced on his home (previously without electricity, hierarchy or currency until its invasion), & is punished for it. He actively destroys property and steals from this army…

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Even if Marth doesn't recognise K. Rool as a king, he should surely be bumped up to the Criminal tier by virtue of his long history of animal cruelty offenses.
Switch FC code: SW-4420-1809-1805- no, Rosalina isn't royalty
- no, Rosalina is also not a god
- Rosalina is just some clown who had a spaceship
Checks out. Rosalina is basically an honorary princess at Nintendo. It's the same as how Disney often puts Mulan in their Princess Collections even though she is not royalty, she does not marry into royalty, she does not at any point come anywhere near the prospect of ever becoming royalty, etc. etc...
Rosalina's basically a space hobo.
Oh my god, "One Suit Samus". I died.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.She's a space wizard hobo!
What about the creation of a universe with her directing it? That's pretty godlike.
That's sort of like God asking the random bum on the corner for tips when creating the universe.
This is my favorite justification.
With a crown. Which I guess is what gives her the right to nobility in Marth's eyes. Doesn't work for animals, though.
See, this assumes Marth gives a crap about animal cruelty offenses. Besides, animals are allowed to be cruel to animals. It is part of the circle of life or whatever.
Btw, I live that Katie has a justification for all her questionable decisions in that list (sans Lucas, which she was just wrong about). The fact that she gave that much thought for such an silly list makes me very happy.

Silly lists with way too much thought put into them are the best kind of lists.
Ah, but K. Rool's offenses were clearly premeditated. Name me an animal that abducts another animal to tie them up and torture them by shooting cannonballs at them. Or one that uses other animals as living batteries for a killer robot made out of their wife's pots and pans.
Switch FC code: SW-4420-1809-1805All parts of twitter chain are hilarious
My favourite part is that only one she agrees being on wrong spot is Lucas because argumetn shows he clearly should be on criminal tier xD
Edited by SpookyMask on Dec 20th 2018 at 7:55:53 PM
Hell yeah!
That is a fair point, K. Rool is a criminal by any reasonable definition. Too bad Marth is not reasonable and likely gives zero fucks about what happen to dirty animals (or peasants).
What I loved is that the person making the Lucas argument framing it as defining Lucas' honor. She made me want to play Mother 3 more than anything else. Btw, the arument make Lucas seem like a full blown communist, so a proud monarchist like Marth just regard him as even lower than peasants.

Surely Robin is bad on his/her own merits, bad timeline and all that.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.The Chinese Mandate Of Heaven is cool because "Look, if he still had the Mandate, I wouldn't have successfully overthrown him. My coup was successful, therefore Heaven must have just decided I was more worthy."
It had to do with their gods not being omniscient and perfect but a meritocratic bureaucracy with all that that implied.
In theory I like the Mandate of Heaven, since it's trying to say that even those appointed by the gods are not above reproach. In practice, it's just Asskicking Equals Authority. "I killed you, that clearly means I'm supposed to be in charge."
And then the Japanese put their own spin on the Mandate of Heaven, where even an incompetent emperor is still a god and obviously far superior to any mortal alternative.

Much better than the Egyptian version, which was "Our rulers are gods by blood, so therefore they must marry those who are also gods by blood, which means their siblings."
Genetic variety is what harems are for.
It's even better, the one who runs it is Sow Joan.
