So I just finished the 2003 series and am planning to watch Brotherhood in a couple of week's time. How do the two series compare to each other?
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonBrotherhood is larger scales, more characters, more emphasis on the supporting cast. Characters angst less and are more efficient.
It has ninjas, princess, tiny panda, and a Michael Jackson impersonator.
Where there's life, there's hope. Also, the first 10 or so episodes are a bit rushed, as they cover more or less the same events as the first anime.
I've heard that Brotherhood has a grander plot while FMA '03 is more of a personal journey. Would this be correct?
I loved FMA 03's darker feel, which I'll miss quite a lot, I think. I actually liked some of the angsting lol, Ed's character arc was one of my all-time favorites
Hyped for Brotherhood quite a lot though

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonI would say that's correct.
Couldn't contain my excitement and watched the first episode, liked it. Probably would have been a bit better if I waited a little bit though. Not really sure what to do now.
Honestly a really good plot can make up for a relative lack of thematic depth, so I'm cool with it. This show has been hyped to hell and back (it's at or near the top of every "best anime ever" lists) so I'm trying to keep my expectations in check but damn it's hard to.
Edit: I've decided to stop watching after 2 episodes to give the series time to fade in my mind sobI don't get the "yup, seen this already" effect as badly. The beginning is basically an abridged version version of the first anime's beginning anyway.

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonIt should probably be noted that the first episode is filler. The only major case in the anime, actually. Not sure why that is.
This song needs more love.Well, I wouldn't call it filler - it's Brotherhood-exclusive, but there is some foreshadowing there. But yeah, it really could have been cut.
Oh God! Natural light!Where do you watch it? Crunchyroll? At least it's not a clip show.

Where there's life, there's hope. The Human Transmutation scene here is great again-really gotta hand it to Vic Mignogna here. However, the scenes around it-Trisha's death, the immediate aftermath at the Rockbells', Roy's first meeting with the brothers, and Ed becoming a State Alchemist-all feel super rushed. I've heard that the series undergoes some serious Growing the Beard after it diverges from the original, so I'm going to stick with it.
One thing that I will give Brotherhood over the '03 series right now though: "Again" is fucking amazing and beats the pants off of "Melissa" or "Ready Steady Go".
Yup, Crunchyroll.

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonBrotherhood operates off the assumption that you've either seen 2003 or read the manga at times. Halfway through Season 1 is when it starts to slow down.
Hey don't diss clips shows. They can be really handy.

This song needs more love.Eventually you'll hate the ads more than Shou Tucker.
All it does is giving Arakawa an extra week to finish her manga.

Where there's life, there's hope.So is Shou Tucker the eternal benchmark for hate in the FMA fandom?
Adblock FTW

"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonIsn't that obvious? Not even Arakawa likes him.
Where there's life, there's hope.I figured lol. Piece of shit
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonTucker is the only character to go to "hell" in the omake. Everyone else, including the baddies, goes to heaven.

Where there's life, there's hope.Of course. Only fitting.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonCan companies tell if their ads are just being blocked?
I think so. Linkara tells his viewers to not have ad blocks.

Where there's life, there's hope.X4 Not denying the Tucker deserves Hell for what he did to his own daughter, but c'mon!
I know there are a few other dudes who deserve to go there with him. I won't say nothing since we have someone still watching the series, but that's a little unfair.
Also:
I agree.
.........
Don't worry, I really like Ready Steady Go too!
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonI agree that "Again" is better than "Ready, Steady, Go" as well (not that I hate it). Of course, "Again" is one of my absolute favorite anime openings of all time.

This song needs more love.Yeah, it's taken all of two episodes for "Again" to rocket into my top 3 all-time anime openings.
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." -Thomas EdisonWell, now, I wasn't expecting to hear this mashup today.
16 more episodes are available on Crunchyroll.
