I did a double take when Aoki called Hiramaru "Kazu-tan". In a good way, of course.
This is shaping up to be a really sweet ending.
I was kind of hoping to see some how their relationship actually functioned before the series ended.
Like, They go furniture shopping, and then Mashiro chickens out of buying a double bed, or they avoid eye contact all through the wedding ceremony, or what have you.
But no, it'll probably just end with them properly meeting up before we have a chance to see any of that.
WAFF levels rising.
Aww....
AWWWWWW
"AND NOW YOU CAN MARRY AZUKI AS THE NUMBER ONE AUTHOR IN JUMP!" AWWWWWWWLIYSTDITSFDKSJYDFSD!!
Aw man this is too cute for me to handle.
I'm on the edge of my seat for this week's chapter guys, it's the final one!
Really? Good!
Yeah, raws are out, anime blogs and news webtsites are posting as they hear about it.
This caught me off guard, yes the series looked like it was on its final moments, but there was no official word that it was ending soon, aside from rumors.
At least Air Gear gave the ultimatum, Bakuman just ends on your face.
Well, there were no special announcements or anything, but like discussed several pages ago on this thread, they finished up all the plot threads. If it wasn't ending this week or next one, I'd probably revolt.
It makes a nice parallel to the Story Within a Story Reversi, doesn't it? "They're seriously ending it?" "Seriously, they ended it!"
There's no way it's a coincidence that the series is ending so soon after an arc focusing on them ending a manga that's reached the natural stopping point.
Although honestly Bakuman didn't come to this point naturally. It's more like they fluttered about pointlessly for several arcs before suddenly deciding that they should get around to the ending already.
It's a bit like Death Note. We all know it had to end sometime and it should end on a nice note.
Well, I won't deny that it was fun reading this whole series. Maybe I'll read it all over again in the near future.
Have you ever danced with tropes on the pale moonlight? So will I...
...
So, any more manga like Bakuman? I hope they do another one.
ARCHITECT POWAHHH! Will soon be posting as 'Firebird'... [[http://tinyurl.com/ttwiktlk Wiki Talk SubforI'd certainly be interested in a new manga by these authors, but I don't need another Bakuman.
I mean, a Slice Of Life.
ARCHITECT POWAHHH! Will soon be posting as 'Firebird'... [[http://tinyurl.com/ttwiktlk Wiki Talk SubforBy the same authors? I dunno. They seem to be good at this whole 'battles without any actual fighting' theme they got going, as well as writing some strong and likeable characters, but they are weak at writing convincing relationships between those characters, which is a major component of a good Slice of Life.
They could write Bakuman thanks to Write What You Know, but I doubt they could write a SOL that convincing without such crutches.
Final chapter is out.
Hmm, I was kind of expecting something slightly more.....epic? Adorable? Less shy, more showing off how much they've actually grown up, etc? Eh, whatever, it's a good, natural end.
......Oh, bloody hell. I just can't feel it. After all that work, all that hot-bloodedness, all those years of growing up, we end with a "we never changed"?
I'm just not feeling it. An ending should be something spectacular, something to remember. There is beauty in subtlety, but this is a bunch of much nothing at all.
Aargh.
Don't get me wrong. I actually liked the chapter. It's always nice to see characters get a happy ending.
But there should be more. The emotion here just... fizzled out. I mean, endings don't always have to be grand, spectacular, but I at least expect more substance than this. I'm not even saying they should've shown the wedding, or an epilogue of sorts. I would've been fine with how things rolled this chapter, if it was only executed better.
I dunno, man, I kinda feel let down. Honestly, the RHS proofreader's farewell to this series was the one that actually made me feel somewhat sad to see this end.
Disregarding the satisfatory last chapter
From a bicycle to a ferrari, from a house to a mansion, damn.
Meh. Had all the right plot elements, and but lacked the proper emotional payoff, as others have said. Not a terrible ending, not by a longshot, but not an impressive one either.
Who knows, maybe there will one or two extra chapters in the last volume published, in July I think. I'm saying this because Death Note also had them.

You mean the wedding or the epilogue? If so, cool.
But still. Like Gilphon said, the right ingredients were there, but the result was mediocre somehow. And that kinda makes it worse, as I can see how better they could have made it.
Uhm... It ended? Just like this? Not that it had to go on any longer, but this was, uh... "low-key" is the only neutral definition I can assign to it. Still, not utter crap like Negima's and Air Gear's endings, so I can be somewhat satisfied.
Now watch The World God Only Knows end as soon as Mercury sprouts her wings.
New chapter is up.
Looks like we're headed for a dawwwwtastic ending.
