With episode 268 out now, the Yamazaki and Tama chapters that got skipped are finally animated. Next week's episode will cover chapters 417 (history lesson) and 455 (hiding porn lesson).

Yamazaki still hasn't learned his lesson about anpan apparently. I think who actually makes the better straight man is a tricky question.

[up]Haha good question. Well the role changes hands this time, like in this week's episode where Sacchan took on the Straight Man role.

Next week's episode will be the Joui Reunion arc. I imagine we're getting at least one more episode of that arc.

Going to manga talk, who else is going to miss Isaburo after this arc? I don't expect him to survive it. Too many death flags.

This week, episode 272 concluded the Kurokono Tasuke arc, while the chapter 542 scanlation is out now.

To think we've had non-stop serious arcs since chapter 502, it's amazing.

This week in the anime we've had the new Four Devas animated. Next week, the animated Gender Bender arc starts. I'm looking forward to how they'll do the voices, and if they'll change the opening and ending.

Wow, this show really goes all out when it does a parody of something. They even had a bootlegged version of the Eight Melodies playing in the background.

Isn't it a little too soon to be changing the opening and ending?

[up]I didn't mean changing the opening and completely, just gender bending the characters in them. The popularity poll arc had the rankings stay in the ending, while the Kintama arc opening and ending featured Kintoki and changed to Gintoki at the end of the arc.

If this show has a strong track record of doing such changes during important arcs, then I'd think it would be a pretty safe bet.

I'm pretty new to this series, so I wouldn't know.

Yup, they make some small changes to the openings and endings sometimes. I assume you're caught up on the anime? Are you reading the manga or waiting for the anime to catch up?

If you're not caught up on the manga, then don't click the spoiler. Got a pretty major reveal in the latest chapter: Our newest villain, Utsuro, is revealed to be either Shoyo himself or looks exactly like him. We'll see next chapter maybe.

Watching or reading any of the comedic arcs are bad for one's health I've found — too much laughing makes it hard to breathe at times. :P

I've only watched the first six or seven episodes of the anime...several years ago. I really enjoyed them, but I wasn't in the mood to binge the +100 episodes that were out, so I put it the series to the side for an indefinite period of time and sort of forgot about it.

When Season 3 came out, I thought, "Eh, why not" and jumped right in. Even without a grasp of the plot (I'm aware that there were a couple of serious arcs throughout the story), I still find the comedy to be enjoyable. I think it could do without some of the toilet humor, but I can live with it.

[up]If you enjoy I think you should get around the whole series from the beginning. It's great fun and awesome when it gets serious. evil grin

A watch-through of the entire series actually sounds like a lot of fun. And it would be great for a challenging game of "try to guess ALL the references and shout-outs".

It's just that...265 episodes. Oy vey...

Ah, yeah. I can understand if that's intimidating. The amount of episodes and hesitation whether I should go with the manga or anime kept me from starting it for a loooong time. Then I finally decided to watch a few episodes a day and eventually I was caught up. Does take some time though.

Episode 275 is now out. The beginning of the genderbend arc.

They actually went and genderswapped the characters in the opening like I thought they would.

They did? I must have missed it; they changed the ED, but the OP looked the same as usual.

[up]Yeah I meant the ending. Not sure what I was thinking there. The opening was unchanged. My favorites of the genderbends is either Kagura or Kondo, because they're so unexpected. Kagura is particularly hilarious.

Chapter 545 is also scanlated and the mystery of our newest bad guy resumes. So far, even the characters in the manga are confused about Utsuro. Nobume says he's Shoyo and yet not Shoyo, and that he also "killed" Shoyo, not Gintoki. It's all very confusing at the moment.

Episode 277 is out. The genderbend arc continues, this time with Tsukuo and Sarutobi Ayao. They really found some good manly voices for those two.

[up]Personally, I don't think Gorilla is dead. Too important. He'll gain a cool scar from it at least. Isaburo is still carrying the death flags though and I am not expecting him to survive this arc.

Episode 278 features a new opening and ending. The opening includes hints for several upcoming arcs, including the Shinigami arc which starts next week.

And last week in the manga: Kondo is still alive. Might have a nice new scar by the end of the arc though.

The ending of the episode was sweet. But ugh...he didn't have to throw out that perfectly good, decently sized bento near the end of the episode. What a waste.

Is the next arc going to be like the Genderbender arc in terms of length and seriousness, or something completely different?

[up]It's a lot more serious than the genderbend arc. But it's also one of the shorter serious arcs. It also serves as major foreshadowing to one of the more recent manga arcs.

Also, spoilers for the next chapter are out: Looks like Oboro is gonna need a new arm after this.

The Shinigami Arc is now adapted!

As of the recent chapters: Poor Nobume... But Isaburo's death wasn't at vain.
