Other topic: I was about to make a post about how every single troll in Hiveswap is doomed to die to the Vast Glub, but then I remembered that the Vast Glub that Feferi's lusus causes will happen in universe A2, and Hiveswap must take place in Universe B1 because Roxy is a teenager in the 90's. Unless Joey swapped universes and not merely locations when she went through the portal, in which case, yup. Erryone gonna die :c

post retcon vriska would have been a great addition if it actually amounted to pre retcon vriska actually doing anything with her life (er, death?)

imagine how amazing a moment it would have been if Fishka came back, after all her character development, got post retcon vriska to fuck off, and now we have a vriska that has character development and actually has a dedicated investment in the plot and everything that's happened to her and the ghosts

and not fishka just fucking off and dying and this new vriska who we have no attachment to taking over

ofc ymmv if fishka even deserved that much. the vriskourse never stops after all.

I mean, Joey absolutely went to another universe? I'm unsure how that wasn't clear.

Hiveswap takes place on Alternia, and thus must be in A2. If she went to A1 she would have arrived on Beforus instead, which is totally different. There's no troll planet in Universe B1, or B2. The trolls made Universe B1, but didn't enter it, and so didn't seed it with any troll life; and none could have been introduced by the Scratch, since that only directly affected Earth.

So yeah, everyone's going to die, but in fairness, that's sort of a default truth about any story involving mortal people? And depending on how long before Hivebent Hiveswap takes place on Alternia, it might not even be the Vast Glub that kills them. The Reckoning meteors threaten Joey and Jude's Earth in twenty years or so, too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hiveswap ends with everyone bailing to a third universe that doesn't have a looming apocalypse, though; namely Universe C that got made at the end of Homestuck.

I mean. I assumed that all three universes would have an Alternia, and an Earth.

Which.

Now makes absolutely no sense. Why did I think that. Kanaya's whole ordeal about reviving her race makes no sense if Universe B or C would have an Alternia anyway. Damn I'm stupid.

Also we know from Pesterquest that Hiveswap & Friendsim take place a considerable time earlier in Alternia's history. Most if not all of the Troll Call trolls would be dead long before the Vast Glub

It really is too late for a Problem Sleuth sequel now, isn't it? I've been waiting and waiting and waiting and the years have gone by and I say it, I grab them all and I ask when we're getting that Problem Sleuth sequel and they say it's not happening.

I go to homestuck.com and I find Homestuck and all of the other MSPA adventure adventures and that's great, but I go to problemsleuth.com and I find a QR code with a bitcoin symbol pasted over it? What's that? Anyway, that's the MSP Adventure I like most and the message composition box setting the font to Courier like this is only reminding me of it and similar MS Paint Adventures more.

My favourite page in Problem Sleuth is now found on page 1312 of the story as it is hosted on homestuck.com. With the tower. Any other Sleuthies out there? Sloothies? Sloothers. Where is the pulse of the fan-dom?

This is a bit silly but I really do like Problem Sleuth a lot and would love to know if anyone got much out of it.

Problem Sleuth was lovely. Easily the best MS Paint Adventure, if you ask me. It was a masterful exercise in precise, consistent, and thorough silly bonkers stuff, which is the best variety of silly bonkers stuff and not at all oxymoronic.

I dont know how well vriskas plan at the end worked. like she immediately ate shit and got sucked into a black hole of irrelevance. and its said that she will do something so actually relevant it will open a hole between timelines, but its hinted the actual thing is june coming out. vriska is just seen as something in the way by the adults and the kids looked up to her because she was new but even after a few hours they had had enough of her, even vrissy. that is the price vriska payed for going off the get all the glory. being shoved in irrelevancy and everyone not caring about her anymore even those she just met. and then she will think she will be the one to get them out, but it will be june coming out that will steal the spotlight and make them relevant

What happens with Vriska being irrelevant after her plan goes off in the Epilogues or HS^2 is kinda irrelevant to the fact that the comic itself frames her as totally in the right and seems to show her plan succeeding perfectly.

I'll echo the sentiment that Problem Sleuth is the best.

This might be a weird observation, but the Aspect Corset is the best item in Problem Sleuth; Hussie just keeps coming up with new uses for it all the way through to near the end of the comic.

I'm going to assume Alternia is not a 1984-style police state where every single inch of it is under surveillance, at least not yet, because one idea I have is a group of adult trolls sneaking back onto the main planet to form a sort of commune where hemo-equality is a thing and wanton senseless violence and murder isn't the ultimate ideal. It's not some idyllic paradise, they spend most of their time working to survive and the only technology they have is from their stolen military ships. Even a rustblood like Xefros enjoys a lot more stuff than they do, but they don't have any kind of hemospectrum-based hierachy.

The funny thing is, the more I think about this, it dawns on me how damn hard this would be a group of trolls. Even ignoring the fact that the entire planetary government would bomb them flat if they were found out (they hid in an extremely obscure forested area for this reason), but as they are trolls, they can't just get new members with boinking each other. They have to surreptitiously steal wigglers, something that's probably significantly harder (though as of now, they have a Jade assisting them and they often take trolls who were slated to be culled due to failing their trials and therefore wouldn't be missed anyway). I guess I'm just a sucker for Anarchist revolutions, eh.

The members are split between two opposing philosophies now, namely "remain isolationist and free from the decayed sin of Alternia, it's too ridden with horrible oppression and violence to justify saving" and "get enough trollpower and weaponry to defend against the inevitable assault by the Alternian government, even if this means a protracted brutal guerrilla war".

I've spent more time than I'd like to think making sure this whole thing makes sense. Trying to supplant this whole revolution plot to Alternia comes with a lot of caveats, but it's a fun experiment.

Kinda sounds similar to Cultstuck, which has two main parts to the premise: the cult of the Sufferer survived to the present day, and they (at least partially) raised Karkat (also no SGRUB, but certain elements of it are present such as captchalogue). It was made long before the present day where we had a better look at Alternian society, so a more modern incarnation would have to be different.

Man my feelings on Homestuck starting from my reading to now are basically this.

"Yeah, I remember this being pretty fun"

"Oh here's the trolls, they're actually better than I thought"

"Woah this is super cool"

"Damn this is awesome!"

"Oh I'm nearing the end, doesn't it get bad there?"

"Oh, it ended. That was a pretty decent ending, I guess"

"Huh, actually, that was pretty anti-climactic"

"Okay, that was really a slapdash ending, the beta kids basically did nothing but sit around and get into relationship drama, LE was defeated by...opening a box, and Sburb in Universe C is probably gonna blow up the new planet too"

"Shit, I'm not gonna read them, but I might as well search and read summaries of what happens in the prologues H^2 and OH GOD WHAT THE HELL"

You think it feels bad now? When the ending first came out, we didn't have that credits sequence, so we were left scratching our heads as to what the hell happened. The next several months on this thread consisted of us arguing whether or not Act 7 was good...and then when the credits came out, arguing whether or not those helped or just made it worse. I think the ideas of the ending are good (juxtaposing Lord English's birth and death, the fates of those in the Furthest Ring being left ambiguous as well as what exactly happened to English), but could have been executed better (John and Caliborn's victories should not have been juxtaposed in that manner). And that's without getting into the mess that is the Masterpiece.

I maintain that the Epilogues are well written if one is actually willing to read through them (which is hardly an easy task considering how depressing they are), but the sequel is...disappointing to say the least.

Genuine question, why do you think it was a good idea to leave exactly what happened to Lord English uncertain?

Because to me it just felt disappointing and anticlimactic, a lack of a satisfactory or interesting conclusion rather than anything interesting in itself. So I'm curious what you think worked or might have worked about it, if you think you could put that into words?

Since Homestuck was often a snapshot of The Internet, the epilogue should have included a podcast from Vriska bragging about how exactly she is the hero and did everything. Guests include Terezi, John, Tavros, and Meenah who swap in and out depending on how much Vriska they can take at a time.

If you want a logical reason, it's mostly based on an altered version of the great words of wisdom from the Red Vs Blue Season 13 ending. In this case, rather than a hero sacrificing themselves, its our heroes leaving behind the conflict for the world the retirement that they so rightfully deserve. They already know that the seeds for Lord English's demise have been sewn, so they have no reason to stick around. Add to that Lord English has so far been invincible except for the power that the juju holds, but with not much elaboration on what the juju will actually do to him, as well as a black hole appearing right behind him ready for him to fall in. And we don't know what will happen to the ghosts either. All in all, it's comes across to me as fitting and tragic, since while we can infer what happened, we don't know exactly what happened.

If you want my actual reason, it just felt, and still does feel, really good. It's actually not something I can put into words besides "it just felt right". I know you want logical arguments, but enjoyment is not something that can be put into logic.

LE's end worked for me simply because the juju was always this metatextual macguffin. It effectively added LE to the narrative and, when activated again, it removed him (and Vriska) from the narrative. The mechanics of how were never so important.

when act 7 first came out I thought it was fitting because lord english was behind everything bad that had happened in some way or form he was always already here so the story ends with him about to be defeated and ends with the kids instead peacing out and escaping the ouroborous of lord english's rule over their universes.

then the epilogues came out and showed it was a good thing because the true final fight sucked, rose and jade ate shit immediately, john got vored and poisoned and all he could do was chuck hammers down lord english's throat like a piece of shit, and the only one who actually did anything of use was dave.
