This looks good. Like, really good.

Here's to hoping we get a patch for PC like with Higurashi.

I can't read Japanese. Is there an English language site, or can you give me the details?

I doubt there is an English language site, and my Japanese is rough around the edges, I'll try and translate what I can.

Why do they have to use a freakin' PS 3 for a Visual Novel like that?

If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.

Neat. Too bad there is no chance of it getting localized. I'll just have to stick with the PC version.

This may be the most overkill implementation of anything I've seen in ever.

They made a PC patch of the PS 2 port of Higurashi, I bet you they'll do it with this.

What kind of trophies would you even have for a visual novel?

Starting the game, saving, loading, deleting a file, completing each chapter, unlocking a tea party, completing a tea party.

^^^^^ Don't bet on it, the Higurashi hacks were made by one fan with a blog, we ddon't even know if he is interested in Umineko, or if he can replace the files as easily as in this case.

Who says there isn't a similarly talented one fan with blog for Umineko?

There could be, but the PS 2 version existed for 3 years, and its PC patch for two months.

This kind of stuff is not hard to do so I wouldn't lose my hopes. Basically, you just need to replace an image file by another with the same name. And people already hacked Umineko. (there is even at last one 'fan game')

The main problem could getting PS 3 images. One of the reasons there is no DS patch for Higurashi is the way the DS images were compressed (that and it images being of a low quality, due to DS screen size).

About the Higurashi patch not existing for a long time, you must remember there were virtually no interest in Higurashi VN in the English fandom during that time. Many don't even know there were a VN. And the patch is useless for the Japanese fans (since they got the PS 2 version anyway). I could argue that th patch come almost immediately after the English release.

I would say there is good change for this patch to be made shortly after the PS 3 release (or at last shortly after said release be pirated). If it don't come in a couple of months, however, it will probably be forgotten (there were more plains for the Higurashi patch, but it have died as everyone lost the interest), at last untill the next PS 3 game.

Btw, as far I know, the orignal engine of Umineko and Higurashi is more edit friendly then mangagamer's. Therefore, a patch for it is actually more likelly. Also, if there is a new scenario in this new version, it would be easy to add it to a patch (though someone would need to translate).

PS: It may be harder to add the new scenarios if they involve choices (which they more likely will, like Higurashi PS 2 version). But this is easy to work around. The choices are probably just for the route you get stuck anyway.

PPS: Thinking now, how would choices work for Umineko? It somewhat worked for Higurashi but, with exception of the last two, all the scenarios could have happened in any order (and, in fact, each one happened more then one time before). Umineko, however, is more linear. Maybe they will just left choice less like the PC version? This seem unlikely, given the past story.

^^ Wow, it seems they got all the anime VA to reprise their roles. Awesome. And it does look quite good.

Actually battler sounds not much like... himself I guess. But everyone else kinda sounds alike, although I'd expect some roles to be changed.

Looking at this set of Beatrice's sprites I concluded a sprite patch may be quite easy to do, as each face seems to have a correspondent sprite. It would be just a matter of replacing the images (probably no need to change the code itself). I have to say I lost any lust I had for new sprites after seeing that set, however. I liked them for the most time, but the famous troll faces just don't do justice in the PS 3 port. They are just bad, way too exaggerated (the last one don't even convey the same feelings). I would e able to live with it if they weren't so important to building the mood (even though they are not that frequent). I don't want to even see what they have done with Maria.

Speaking on it, any hope for a background patch should be lost, unless they chop the image. Different resolution.
