What if we min-maxed speed and defense and/or special defense?

Then give it a buttload of supportive moves for it to help its team out?

Beedrill is actually pretty solid early game in HG/SS. With bug bite at least. It seems to have the right set of moves early on after the initial fury attack nonsense, can learn rock smash, gets pursuit to deal with gastlys, toxic spikes, fairly good special defense...my fight with bugsy was actually intense, as beedrill barely survived a face off against scyther(who KO'd everyone else) with 12 HP and proceeded to solo metapod and kakuna. Bugsy stands out as being like the only leader who actually leads with their ace, which caught me off guard. I was planning to build up rage with metapod and kakuna but nope.

Ledyba can learn headbutt which beedrill can't so it was useful for getting pineco at least, who is a lot better than I remember.

Bug catching contest is all kinds of BS. I spent like 15 minutes looking for scyther and with it didn't even place. 3rd place had a scyther, 2nd place had a butterfree, and first place had a FREAKIN CATERPIE. wtf? Whatever, I didn't need any of the prizes anyway.

Yanma and venonat are going to be the next members for my team. I have a paras but it's there for cut and nothing else really. Venonant is one of those pokemon I kind of like but never stick with due to seemingly taking a long time to evolve(31 isn't even bad, though by johto standards maybe sort of since that's like halfway at least through the main game).

Paras is really good because of Spore (send your opponent to sleep, stat buff up, then if they try something just send 'em to sleep again - no Sleep Clause in regular playthroughs!), I would recommend at least one Paras if you're going all Bug, which... it SEEMS like you are?

Yeah I am. That's a good point but paras is soooo slow, has a kazillion weaknesses and there's no gurantee I'll even pull a set up if they wake up next turn. But I;ll take what you said into consideration.

Anyway my scyther...swarm with a calm nature. Sucks but it's still doing well regardless so I'll stick with it for now. Since venonat isn't available until the next bug contest or mahagony town I'll put it on hold. Yanma is a crapshoot and depends on whether it swarms or not. Back in the day the whole weekday and time system was cool since it was a fresh and clever idea, but now it feels like a burden that actively wastes your time and requires actual days or even months in the case of safari zone just to get what you're looking for.

And why they put hoohoot on nearly every route in Johto I don't know. But I hate it and I'm so sick of looking at its stupid face.

Whitney was easy, though my strategy to poison miltank via toxic spikes didn't work since she had a lum berry. But pineco was able to blow up and take her out after whittling her down some.

I got them all in Platinum, pretty much by dumb luck. And then they just got shifted from pc box to pc box but such is the fate of a living dex.

It'd be nice if the ? and ! variants could learn other moves and had better stats. Maybe that'd make it worth catching all the others. Maybe.

Just traded off an entire box of Cutiefly breedjects. Got seven Com Mons, nine mid-to-late-game catches (one of which is a Kalos transfer), thirteen breedjects, and a Sassy-natured Totem Salazzle.

It seems like every time I throw a box of breedjects into Wonder Trade, there's always an oddball among the things I receive. Last time it was a level 90-something Unova transfer Lucario that only knew Frustration.

Got heraross, man this dude is a BEAST. He's ripping the game apart lol. Morty was a piece of cake as I taught it shadow claw to 1-2 shot everything there. Sucks my good one(I caught two, but the first had a calm nature) got freakin swarm instead of guts but w/e. I'm trying to raise a venonat right now but jeez it's taking forever, venonat sucks lol.

I have to ask, were Dark types in serious need of nerfing after gen V like Dragons were? Hydreigon was hit the hardest with fairy types, but i felt that otherwise dark types had a buff, such as a Knock off buff, an immunity to prankster, and hitting steel types neutrally/

From what I hear Prankster was effectively a nerf to Dark Types because most Prankster users were Dark Type anyways (ironic, ain't it?)

And related, I also hear that pretty much all the dragons that were really good in Gen 5 are still pretty good with Fairies, because of the fact that most of them were pseudo-legendaries with a bunch of coverage options already, allowing them to deal with the new Fairy-Type with Steel and Poison-type moves they happened to have lying around.

Dark types became neutral on Steel, and that's a huge buff for anything. Without Fairy, that would mean only Dark and Fighting would resist it, and seeing Knock Off was getting buffed, and Pursuit has been an important metagame factor since its introduction (and even moreso since it became Physical), well, yeah.

Don't think of Fairy resisting Dark and Bug. Think of Fairy resisting Pursuit/Knock Off and U-Turn.

It also was a counter-Hydreigon approach, as we all remember Ghetsis' walking all over our teams.

Still, I do believe Psychic and Ice should have gotten some advantages with the introduction of Fairy.

And, Dragon types are still good with Fairy, true. They just don't have an "I WIN" button in Outrage or Draco Meteor; and their Poison or Steel attacks aren't really comparable to the anti-Ferrothorn Fire Blast they usually packed.

Well Hydreigon was a big reason for why Fairies exist. not THE reason, but being 4x weak to them and that being a selling point for pre gen 6 promotion, does make one wonder. AS i recall, on this very forum, Latios was a bigger reason why Fairies exist and that Dragons were becoming less rare, thus fairies.

I mean conveniently most of the buffs for Dark type are mostly for utility uses like Knock off, which Hydreigon can't use. Still the Super effective Dark Pulse on Metagross and other steel psychic/ghosts, are appreciated. Think Game Freak will give Hydreigon any good Poison type moves? i mean the Poison motif could work for it. After all, Didn't the yamata no orochi use poison? or was the the hydra?

It has Belch. It also has Flash Cannon, Earth Power, Fire Blast, Focus Blast, good STAB, a nice physical movepool and good enough physical attack... Hydreigon is not a bad Pokemon at all.

EDIT: Just noticed, Ultra Necrozma's battle theme has a sudden thematic change 31 seconds in, in which it turns from majestic to dire. And, in most playthroughs, it is about the moment where the first attack has been fired and Necrozma has outsped and OHKO ed what you believed had a chance versus it. Nice touch.

Whimsicott and sableye got hit by that prankster/dark change. Because now anything part dark can just jump in and set up on them. Whimsicott isn't strong enough to KO most darks with one moonblast but is frail enough to die to one poison jab or buffed steel move. Becoming immune to prankster means a pokemon with prankster cannot directly status you at all and has to rely on secondary effects from attacks.

Right. So last I checked, I was asking you guys about giving Garchomp Earthquake.

I think everyone told me go for it?

Gonna take another run at the Sinnoh Elite 4 so I just want to be sure.

Yeah. Though it's a little risky in double battles unless you can nullify it through flight or levitate.

Edit: Anyway, here I go again (on my own)!

Edit 2: Alright. Dig is gone, and Earthquake stands in it's place. Mwa ha ha ha!

Double Post:

Currently fighting Cynthia. Infernape just reached Level 53 and can learn Calm Mind. Should I replace Leer with the former.

Infernape has Mach Punch, the aforementioned Leer, Flamethrower, and Close Combat.

Edit: Forgot to mention that Cynthia is crushing me. Her damn Spirit Tomb took out most of my group...and it was her first Pokemon.sad
